Unless they are going to move the "classic" line to a touch interface, be prepared to be underwhelmed.

I don't want an iPod Touch. I want a new updated Classic. I want more space than my 160GB classic. I have had it filled so much that it's hard to figure out what to leave off of it.

Well, when I'm outside and doing serious running, hiking, or anything where I could drop my "music player" on a hard rock surface I would care much less if it was a ruggedized iPod that I use constantly when I exercise, than an iPhone which I am paranoid about cracking or scratching that beautiful touchscreen. I wouldn't risk anything using an iPhone in which my risk of dropping/scratching/cracking is high, but I don't care with either of my iPods (I have two) -- those are made to take the abuse.

Yes I admit I was completly wrong. I made a mistake. I still use my shuffle and would never run with an iPhone. I wish to take back my earlier comment.

Rubbish, got an iphone, ipods are old hat, want a long overdue macbook (pro) refresh

No matter what, I will never use my phone as my DAP. The reason of course being that I need my phone to make calls and don't want to having t make a call, but not being able to because I spend the entire charge on playing music (or video, for that matter, making things even worse).
On the other hand, I don't want to have to listen less than I otherwise would have all in an effort to conserve power for the phone.
But your iPhone has plenty of battery usage time, I gather? :p

I too rarely use my iPhone as my main DAP. I do use it for an hour or so daily when closing up at work but in the car, my Classic gets used.

It's amazing how people don't really care about other products that Apple wants to refresh and that other people do care about them.

Surely this pretty much confirms the new form factor.
I would have suggested that this could have been the iPod Classic, due to it's shape, even though elongated; but the Classic's headphone jack is on the top rather than the bottom :p

New iPod Video.

So does anyone know what plans there are for the upgrade on the Video iPods? I was thinking about getting a new one since mine is about three years old, just wondering if it is worth the wait.

Some countries, like Canada, are screwed when it comes to iPhone Data Plans. I'm not paying 85$ per month for 1 third of what you guys get, so I'd much rather have a regular cell phone which I rarely use anyways and a good iPod.

I think the ATT data plans, while cheaper, are outrageous as well. I have a $30 LG flip phone and a 4G iPod Photo. Touch next week!

Wow, don't head any companies anytime soon...

Last I checked we were the consumers. :)

Of course we are. Apple's #1 goal is should be keeping us satisfied.
Remember, though, Apple has been at this for a long time. They know what they're doing. If they succumbed to every whiner on the internet they'd be in ruins right now. Apple has their own schedule, that they know will be effective in keeping the consumer happy while dealing with other limitations (such as R&D/engineering time, production, etc.).
I'm just tired of all the whiners constantly derailing threads with their crying for new laptops that they know are coming anyway.

hmm i wonder what it takes to get into that thing. oh well. i'll just wait till blackfriday and buy the new macbookpro. hopefully it won't be TOO expensive :|

...new iPods? nice of course.

But isn't iTunes 8.0 on its way also?? To me this is the big/good news... all the new features...

DVD movie import?? Easily transfer your DVD(/blueray?) collection for your iPhone AppleTV??

Thats exciting (if so).

Sorry. Apple don't make computers anymore.

:rolleyes: Yes they do. They just have other products along with computers now. It's totally unreasonable to ask for an update to their computers every time their other products receive a refresh. Just because the iPhone and iPods have been the center of news recently doesn't mean that Macs are totally ignored now. There is just more news of other types now.

I think it will be just be ipods, and apple will wait until all bts purchases are past the 15-day return period before announcing new macbooks. they wouldn't like a flood of old stock in returns after they unveil the shiny new products.

and going along with the "media centric" event, could there possibly be upgrades in store for the apple tv? possibly a fusion with the mac mini to create a mini-media server? ...probably not ;)

I agree. While my family would all like to have iphones, my wife is going to get a Touch. You'd think since we're all under the family plan, AT&T would give us a break on the $30 data plan fee for each 2nd, 3rd, ... iphone. Then you add the ridiculous cost of texting.

DVD movie import is very unlikely. It would mostly be used for piracy (even though you might not, others will). And with the Digital Copies on some DVDs now it seems even less likely.

Considering the lack of mini updates recently and the weak sales of the TV, I actually wouldn't be surprised.
Probably not though. It's being strongly suggested this event will focus on iPods.

This is absolute suckage of the highest order ...I want a new laptop an I would very much like to get it as soon as possible I do not require a rehashed iPod or new whatever G iPhone ....Apple please pay attention to the notebook computer line up , oh and would it be to much to ask to update the Mini?, even just a little bit .

whatever the fanboy's say ...updates are way over due

I really am displeased to say the least:apple:
