Computers become dated more quickly than iPods though; it makes sense to update Macs when new processors and other technology becomes available. I am more likely to still be using a music player from a few years ago than I am a laptop from a few years ago.

Seems reasonable to expect the Mac lines should be updated more frequently than iPods.

You are absolutely right
we need new macs :D:D:D

Any chance iphone's get bumped to 16 and 32?

I don't see why not, or even higher. Wasn't there an article or post a few weeks back that Apple needs to make other products more competitive against the iPhone.

Also, you can get a 1 Gig flash drive for like $8 now. Prices have really coe down.

Yup. I agree. This might be the end, seeing how Apple puts all their eggs in one basket: A lowest denominator consumer product, while letting everything else suffer, not least the quality.

In the long run, I think this might hurt them as well. It's not as if they don't have the money to do more than one thing at the time, they seem to have chosen to ignore all the rest of the line-up, ignore doing proper QC and so on.

Here's the thing, with all these online apps coming out from Google and other companies, hardware may just become irrelevant. i hope not. I love having my stuff local and not floating on the net..... But yes, apple needs to concentrate on macs and software again. I really like iwork, but it could use a little more work. How much more can be done with a stinkin ipod, except form factor? I mean really, stop re-designing the thing every-year and just add refreshes (like storage bumps).

Here's a question?

1. New Ipods on the 9th..
2. New Macs Sometime between September and November..

What is going to happen at MACWORLD if they release all this now?

Hopefully the touch/tablet, some new wow factor ACD's, and maybe revisions to iwork to blow away MS?

I hope the new MBPs don't come out for months after everyone is expecting...just because I had to wait forever for this last revision...it'll make me feel better.

We're not even close to that frightening scenario.

Me too. I prefer having my work locally. besides, much of what I do cannot be done through the web. If for nothing else, then because of security and bandwidth.

He he, indeed :D

Ok lets see what they can release at macworld heum :
-apple tv 3
-new ACDs
-Mac Pro
-New Mac Mini
-Macbook touch
-iwork/ilife 09
-maybe snow leopard

Ok now pick 4 of the above and we're done for macworld;)

This confirms my suspicions about the company formerly known as Apple Computer. What a lousy time I chose to switch, when computers are Apple's lowest priority.

God I hope not. Linux is still not where it needs to be, and I really don't want to go back to MS based computing.

If this is the case, anyway to make my macbook and software last 20 years? :p Finally moved my entire platform (except what I need for my job) away from MS. Have all the Apps I need, just need a touch/tablet mac. :D

New nanos. 16GB & 32GB. Same price points. New form factor.

New shufffle colors. Same capacity and price points.

iPhone 32GB $399 (subsidized).

iPod Touch 32GB $299
iPod Touch 64GB $399
(8GB & 16GB models are discontinued)

iPod Classic 120 $249
iPod Classic 240 $349

iTunes 8.

And the biggie:
The return of NBC to the iTunes store.

This would make me very happy! Then I'd definitely buy a Classic and consider a Nano depending on the form factor. The NBC thing would be great too, especially since Season 4 of The Office just came out on DVD today. MY FAVORITE SHOW EVER!!!!!!

It does look like a rather long ipod.

i don't know if this has already been mentioned but the itunes cards they have out now have the same picture on it. i have one and it's the exact same thing. i can take a pic if you want proof.

i'm excited, i just want an HD iPod touch, atleast 80GB or more. I don't care how thick it is.

if the new nano is anything like what the "leaked" pictures indicate, i beleive apple will have there first miss with their ipod lines. come on we all know it, that thing is uuuuugllly, and the curves make me cringe.

hopefully those are just apple leaked missinformation and they have something big up their sleeves!

There is definitely significance for the blue bar only being about a 6th the way up. Apple never does something without some kind of significance.

Thats what people said about last year's nanos. And now look em, they are great.

Good lord; we still have to wait 6+ days. It's unbearable.

You can buy a 2GB for $6! The prices on flash drives have dropped drastically in the past year.

Sure. Their core offer has shifted from pro to consumer, and it has been headed this way since the introduction of the ipod. Initially i thought the ipod the saviour of apple, but now wouldn't be surprised if it were it's end.

I had hoped (years back) that the additional revenue from ipods could go into product development for pro products (remember that without the pro consumer base this brand would not be alive) but that sure isn't going to happen.

Look at the cinema displays - it is an absolute joke. What about both the MBP and Mac Pro. The only thing that has changed in the last four years is their names...

Do you think Ive even designs computers anymore? That would just be a waste of money...
P
Are you kidding me? Are you saying that Apple's shift to the consumer (IE the mass market) will ruin them? It's the only reason they've been so successful in the past few years.
And in no way has Apple shifted away from the Pro market. They have the Mac Pro and the MBP, while they haven't had any major design changes, have seen huge upgrades (performance-wise) in the past few years. Apple is updating them at a totally reasonable rate, which it basicically as fast as new Intel processors come out. Not to mention their whole range of pro apps.
There are some oddities, such as the Mini and Cinema displays but I wouldn't be surprised if we see something huge for them soon. You can't expect all of their revenue to go to computers- they have other products to maintain as well, remember.

take a look at the supposed photos and tell me they didnt mess up. they look like something a cheap imatator would create, and hopefully thats all they are

This isn't gonna happen.

Releasing a 32GB iPhone two months after the launch will cause so problems similar to those of the September 2007 iPhone price drop.

A 32GB iPod Nano for $200? Keep dreaming. It'll probably be 8GB for $150 and 16GB for $200

64GB iPod Touch for $400?! HAHAHAHA. No. It'll probably be 16GB for $300 and 32GB for $400 if the 8GB model is discontinued. If the 8GB model stays, then I see 8GB being $250, 16GB being $350, and 32GB being $450. There will NOT be a 64GB iPod Touch.

Honestly, I don't see the iPod Classics changing with capacity but if they do, 120GB and 240GB sound realistic.

Shuffles at the same size, now $29 & $49.

iPod Nano 4GB $99, 8GB $149.

iPod Touch 8GB $199, 16GB $299, 32GB $399 (with speaker and camera now)
iPod Touch Classic 120GB $499, 180GB $599(?)

Yeah, it's probably too much to ask, but I suspect the Classic will become a touch to sell Apps. If they don't make that move they are ridiculous.

so what iPods are still fine cause nobody does better
but notebooks... The computer industry groes up ten times faster than the mp3
industry. They're is new technology (for computers) almost every week
So Apple NEED to refresh their macs more often if they don't want to get obsolete fast. Now don't get me wrong : the macs are the most beautiful computer ever, but for the inside, they are way behind everybody

So yes, indeed, Apple MUST refresh their computers more often then their ipods

Yes, they have been upgrading computers more often. As they should. But there are not significant enough upgrades available "every week" to make it worthwhile to update them. It costs insane amounts of money in R&D to upgrade computers and modify the design to match the new parts. It's much better that Apple concentrates on making stable computers than jump on each minor update that's available.

Let's Rock

The "Let's Rock" tag line is a ruse to throw off the rumor mongers before the big surprise announcement. I have it on very good authority (I'm not at liberty to divulge who) that the "Let's Rock" does not refer to iPods, but rather to a new line of heavy and expensive, but ultra-stylish MacBooks with a sleek design. But the real innovation--the "rock" in "Let's Rock"--is that they will be available in your choice of granite or diamond-encrusted limestone shells. Remember, you heard it here first!
