Twitter had moderation policies in place and banned several high profile accounts that broke their terms of service. I don’t see that happening nearly as much now that Twitter has been proclaimed a free speech haven by Musk. Also, the bots will get much worse under Musk whether he knows it or not.
Contrary to popular belief, mean tweets aren't actually dangerous.

You need to keep up, that lie was debunked awhile ago and they moved on to saying he stole nuclear codes even though those change when the president changes and would be worthless even if true. They may circle back to the Russia angle when 2024 rolls around though.
This is the most serious long-term threat facing the United States right now. Major news media sources have always been biased, but generally evenly on both sides. Now the right has Fox News (which has been sliding more left in recent years) and the Washington Times. The overwhelming rest of the media is made up of a left-wing echo chamber (yes, right wing sources echo each other, too).
This is how societies disintegrate -- by having media arms tied to regimes, both ideologically and culturally.

Always a huge insult to the citizens of this country that dictators, tyrants, etc had a place on Twitter but not a former president. Politicians praising BLM riots and deaths had a platform. It was always completely ridiculous.

Neither? Trump is an unpredictable narcissistic politician and Biden is a power hungry senile narcissistic politician. I don’t know if the news helps clarify that but just watching for a little while makes that clear. Both are terrible human beings that should never be in power over free people. But both might support some things you support so…you have to make decisions.

In my view, people try to feel better about themselves by calling each other names. How this discussion exploded on a thread about Shiller leaving twitter just shows how powerful the needs for false virtue and demonizing others is.

Birtherism was a racist movement, and I have demonstrated that with multiple posts in this thread. You do yourself no favors by defending it. The point of my quote was not that "racist", "groomer", and "socialist" mean nothing, in fact, the opposite, they continue to have meaning, no matter how many people misuse the terms, and it's a thin and fallacious defense to say "well they have no meaning now, so I guess I can't be racist".
