I like this shot:

It makes me think of some kind of dynamic wallpaper that would make the DI glow slightly and randomly a bit like an amp tube. This would work best with a black background, and it would have to adjust size along with the DI.
That's where I see developers put their magic.

Let's imagine for a second... Assuming that Apple's API for Dynamic Island offers some kind of liberty, I would love to see someone, let's say WhatsApp or Reddit implementing something similar when a notification comes in. A brief green (for WhatsApp) or orange (for Reddit) moving light halo to indicate a new message.
It honestly would look awesome (even more with a "real" AOD)

EDIT: I don't have enough animation skills to put that concept on video, but if someone does, please do it.

You make some bold assertions. Beyond just saying “it’s bad” perhaps you can detail precise why it’s bad and any professional qualifications you have that lend more weight to your opinion being anything beyond simply your opinion.
I stated in another comment.

So... you would like Apple to innovate by doing the exact same thing "like all the other mobile manufacturers"?
So... if Apple is so predictable, did you see Dynamic Island coming?

This is just pathetic.

Apple made it clear that FaceID is part of their future. TouchID is most likely not going back. And for now, FaceID can't be hidden inside a small pinhole. The tech requires more physical space than that. Dynamic Island exists to make things around it less boring.

No it doesn't. None of us has the absolute need to have the hours of the day, the name of the cellular carrier, the percentage of the battery or the Wi-Fi signal indicator, visible all the time under all circumstances. It's ok if for a few seconds the "T-Mobile" indication goes away. It's ok if for a few seconds you don't see that your Wi-Fi is 3 bars strong.
Buddy you don’t understand it.

It’s a distraction. It’s pathetically bad design.

They literally out the SECONDS in the Timer in the island lmao. It draws your attention away from the rest of the screen.

They put a useless and completely distracting waveform during audio playback.

Apple designers are totally inept now.

The fact that they don't care about it after a day is a good indication that it's actually a good idea. It's not distracting. It just disappears and becomes a seamless and fluid extension of the way the device operates.

It's a really clever idea, and I do appreciate that it's a very Apple-like blurring of the lines between the hardware and the software.

I also love that Android developers have already started copying it.
hahahah No IT IS INCREDIBLY DISTRACTING.

That’s exactly why it’s such a terrible terrible unintelligent design

Everyone complaining that it's limited and not many apps make use of it. There is no public API available yet. Give it time, tons of apps will be using it soon.

Apple has a vice president of human interface design! I thought that wasn't a thing at Apple anymore (for very many years now). Man, would I like to meet that guy and give him a piece of my mind...

make it aqua style!

Apple should hire Jimmy JJ Walker as spokesman and he can scream “Dynammmmic”. Yes I just aged myself

100% agree. Good idea too! I see a flood of creativity around the DI. And I think the AOD looks good the way it is, but I’m sure this will evolve as well.

It’s way too over-hyped. Not at all that useful especially since it’s way up on the top of the screen. I do like seeing the waveform of music I’m playing though.
So use reachability?

The dynamic island sort of reminds me of the touch bar. It had a lot of hype initially, but developers did not seem interested in using the touch bar to its max potential. Everyone will forget the dynamic island, once Apple gets rid of it and developers will no longer make applications that use it.

Exactly and it's actually inconvenient to use in most cases and does not provide a solution to a problem that didn't exist. It's yet again another way of doing something so instead of fixing the main issue Apple just adds another way to be annoyed or frustrated. Similar to the iPad and its unlimited amount of gestures the seemingly do the same thing.
sounds like you have a very limited amount of gestures, and you’re doing one of them to Apple right now.

Odd, most of the reviews I’ve read feel like the DI is a significant change in how users interact With their phones and as long as Apple continues to develop it and as third-party apps make use of it, it should continue to expand and be a useful feature in years to come.
Same things were said about the touchbar

I reviewed all your comments in this thread and all I see are a few opinions. Again, what are your qualifications that make your opinion more weighty than anyone else’s?

All I see is you think a status bar should be unintrusive and the same as the touch bar.

More like a desert island than fantasy island

All the money , all the know how that Apple have can’t engineer a zero notch , I just don’t believe this at all
No one has created an under screen camera that doesn't have worse image quality.

No one has hidden an under screen camera so it is 100% undetectable.

Apple knows that until those things happen, and until the cameras and scanners can be hidden flawlessly, its users will whine, complain, and hashtag the problems.

So Apple is staying with cut-outs.

Y'all can thank yourselves for that.

blah blah blahhh! I will be impressed when it's just a screen with nothing in the way.
I will also be impressed when someone finds a way to make an under screen camera array which doesn't have worse image quality because its shooting through an LCD AND is 100% undetectable while not in use, but that magical day hasn't happened for anyone.

To be fair Apple put it in only a few laptops also did a bad job supporting it in Mac os
