Isn't this like the haptic touch on the Magic Trackpad?
The Magic Trackpad can detect pressure. Haptic Touch on iPhone XR cannot.

Because it’s not the same. 3D Touch is quicker. This will make 3D Touch actions much slower. As someone who uses 3D Touch on the keyboard regularly, it’s a major blow.
I’m also wary that Apple will slow down 3D Touch on existing devices via a software update in order to artificially lessen the difference with Haptic Touch and help justify their decision. Such is Apple’s pattern of user-hostile behaviour of late. In fact, I get the feeling they already did so slightly in iOS 12.3.x.
I’m getting ever so frustrated with this company.
Probably because nobody is using it. it's to unintuitive.
Really won't miss it. Don't miss it all on my XR, long-pressing works as well in most instances and it was never clear where 3D Touch would and wouldn't work... it was mostly a guessing game. In all honesty, the biggest feature I enjoyed about the 3D Touch was pressing firmly on the keyboard to get a mouse-like cursor. That is still present on the XR by long-pressing the space bar.
It wasn't a bad feature, but was mostly a novelty.
This is a feature mostly everyone on here calls a gimmick but I love using. I hope they keep a variation of it on the new iPhone.
I think that's exactly what it means. I like the limited context menusHopefully this means they're ready to replicate all 3D Touch features in Haptic Touch.
Wow now that you mention this I just checked on my iPhone X and they did add a noticeable delay to bring it more in line with haptic touch. Gross

You can say the same about a right mouse clickIt’s difficult to advertise “visually” what force touch is. So I’d understand why.
Agreed. Why Apple seems to want to throw away its best innovations that set it apart from the competition (eg MagSafe) is beyond me.
Oh yeah, shortcuts, I remember everyone talking about this amazing feature after the keynote last WWDC and out it came and .. that was it. Probably seen a couple of articles about it since, mostly skimmed them as they were fairly detail-heavy and thought "perhaps I'll look at that later". If I didn't read a lot of Apple articles, I wouldn't even know the feature was .. a feature.Apple is repeating the same mistake with Shortcuts....great idea, poor execution.
No, it's 100% clear why they would remove the 3.5mm jack. It takes up space that's better used for other things. I LOATHE cabled headphones. They're cumbersome, they tend to break (surprise, surprise) AT the jack, and in general earbuds sound mostly the same. (Yeah, yeah, you can get some good ones, I know. I owned a pair of Shure 425s, so don't audio-quality BS me.)
It's an antiquated 1-use-only port that takes up an inordinate amount of space for no functionality advantage. The fact that you didn't like the decision doesn't make it 'unclear' why they made it.

No thanks everyone moved onto AirPods and CarPlay we don’t need it anymoreSince we're ditching old ideas, can we have the headphone jack back now too please?
You’re correct. However you can’t highlight etc. Only move the curser. No I'm pretty sure you can do that on a XR it's just a long press rather than a force press...
Yes, pressing things requires intuition.

Pressing on icons opens a context menu and I use it daily.
