Really won't miss it. Don't miss it all on my XR, long-pressing works as well in most instances and it was never clear where 3D Touch would and wouldn't work... it was mostly a guessing game. In all honesty, the biggest feature I enjoyed about the 3D Touch was pressing firmly on the keyboard to get a mouse-like cursor. That is still present on the XR by long-pressing the space bar.

It wasn't a bad feature, but was mostly a novelty.

Replying to messages on the lock screen without unlocking is a very useful feature. Peek and pop in links on websites and pictures is even more useful. Far from a novelty

Wow now that you mention this I just checked on my iPhone X and they did add a noticeable delay to bring it more in line with haptic touch. Gross

Yep, the Control Centre still uses the older, quicker 3D Touch, but app icons have a noticeable lag.

I’m seriously fed up with Apple now. It was bad enough when they slowed down the home button, now this. Screwing over existing customers for thinness and profit. Just go Tim Apple!

3D Touch works by measuring the changes in atmospheric pressure between the glass and LCD display. I believe that in order to make the glass/bezels slimmer, they would need to consider omitting 3D all-together.

Great. That’s what we need is to make glass thinner. Aren’t they brittle enough?

Terrible news if the rumor turns out to be true. Haptic Touch is garbage compared to 3D Touch and I use it all of the time, especially for the keyboard. I love being able to scroll through text with one amount of pressure, then actually selecting text with another amount of pressure. That alone will be a great loss to me. It was the biggest reason I would jailbreak back before they released that feature officially. The software one sucks and it doesn’t allow you to select text, just scroll through it.

One feature I thought 3D touch would give me is to “open in new tab” in Safari. I can never do that. It’s just a preview of the webpage. They could have let us customize the behavior to distinguish between touch and press. But those two actions give the same result. Why bother keeping it. I couldn’t care less if 3D touch is eliminated.

So does this mean Haptic Touch is integrated to opening opens and shortcuts the way 3D Touch has been? I assume this will be integrated in iOS 13 and enabled on iPhone XR and up on all Haptic Touch compatible phones?

I really hope this isn't true. I really love 3D Touch and all the vibration feedbacks you get throughout the interface. Removing it would be a step back.
You get all the same Haptic feedback with Haptic Touch. All the clicks, scrolling, trackpad, notifications. Apple expanded the functionality quite a bit for XR owners back in iOS 12.1.1. I imagine if this rumor pans out, we will see all of the current functionality 3D Touch offers come to Haptic Touch.

After using haptic touch on the Xr I knew this would happen. Haptic touch is light and effortless, 3D touch is unergonomic and error-prone. Haptic touch is comparable to how nice it is to do a touch to tap on a MacBook trackpad, and 3D touch is like doing a force click.

I like the extra dimension tho. The differentiation is nice.

If they add all the 3D touch shortcuts as haptic touch, sure why not.

This! I have said it over and over, I will not upgrade from my XS if they remove 3D Touch and I’ve upgraded every year since the 4. However, if they implement haptic touch to react the exact same way as 3D Touch does then I’m all for it.

If it acts the same way as it does on the XR, I will be keeping my XS for a very long time.

I wonder if haptic will be introduced on the 2019 iPad Pro's. Product features always seemed disjointed and the experience to go from one iOS device to the next and then macOS seems frustrating at times.

I am willing to see it go, if it means the user experience is comparable amount the devices and ecosystem.

FTR, I do like using 3D Touch it comes in handy a lot and I miss that the iPad does not have these feature/function.

Am I the only person who struggles when trying to do the "hard press" thing to rearrange icons on the home screen?

It always thinks I'm trying to do a 3D Touch gesture when I press hard, and if I press soft, it does that annoying thing where the area around it expands and then contracts. It's sometimes hard for me to get it "just right."

I would think that this could be a good way for them to offset the expense of making the iPhone to either increase their revenue or to perhaps decrease the cost of the phones for consumers. Since almost all functionality can be implemented without 3D Touch there is really no reason to have the hardware in the phone.

Well gee, I dunno, maybe to cut back costs if Apple can achieve pretty much the same thing through software? Saves them from building in additional hardware. It might even be possible to slim down the iPhone by a fractional margin or prevent it from becoming much thicker.
I really don’t need or want a thinner iPhone since I end up putting a case around it anyway because the damn things are mostly ceramic and glass now. Give us more battery.

My iPad Pro has the same haptic touch features that an XR has... Edit, I misspoke, the iPad Pro doesn’t have the haptics, but it has the long press features, and to me that is the same. I don’t need the phony vibrate as long as I have the functionality.

So that hardware for 3D Touch in the phone that people payed for gets disabled, not used now uses touch screen like normal phones, money down the drain Apple has downgraded you
