By that explanation, iPhone prices should have gone up, but they didn't, yet. And upping ATV by over 50% seems unreasonable compared to other products.
It is what it is, right now iPhone is subsidized by the other products to keep prices and sales going.
The other surprise is that Apple Watch didn't see an increase.

For me, other than maybe maybe the watch, no upgrades planned for the next couple years at least
I'm sure iPhone increases will come in September. They'll just shoulder the difference until then.
The Apple TV was already a hard sell for a lot of people since the competition is much cheaper. Nearly doubling the price is insane. No one will buy it. You can literally get the "top of the line" fire stick for $35 right now.

Worst of it is that many economists think that inflation has come to stay, and it is not clear when prices will stabilize again. We’ll see…
They don’t think, it’s fact! It’s how our economy works, inflation is inevitable. The only difference with say 100 years ago, is that with digital stock/money markets it’s just going faster now. Just as the governments deficits will never shrink. None of the central banks want stable prices. “Greed is good” is the credo of most bankers if not all.

So basically AI, which no one asked for is not only going to take our jobs, it's also going to make everything more expensive.....COOL
Yup, with price increases across pretty much the entire consumer electronics industry, we're all paying the cost of generative AI whether we like it or not, even if we don't touch the stuff. How screwed up.

I'd say I can't wait for the bubble to pop, but if/when it does we're looking at a big economic recession, so we still lose even then. The AI hysterics have started something they can't finish and we'll be taken along for the ride.

I only hope there's some sense of normalcy waiting for us the other side. It'd be a long time coming.

NO ONE IS GONNA BUY A NEW PHONE THATS $2,000 so many customers will leave apple
The thing is the Android phones will go up in price also. I am curious to see what will happen with the Apple Folding phone price. They were saying $2,000 before the price increases, i can only wonder what it might end up being.

iPhone makes over 50% of revenue so price increases will me moderate or sales will sharply drop...
As for the ATV, I have 2 2nd gen 4k and was contemplating upgrading but now certainly not to the current model and will have to see what the new model will have to offer and cost. I will definitely not get a cheap stick of whatever brand if I need to replace the ATV, from the reviews I've seen you're bombarded with ads...

Apple would raise the iPhone price overnight if they could. It's just difficult because you have so many carriers with their own ad campaigns, signage, and other marketing collateral. It would be a bit chaotic. Best to wait until September and just do it then. Now how much you think that Fold/Ultra will cost?

Apple’s profit margins after the price hike are probably unchanged. The loser? The customer. For the first time in ages I won’t be upgrading this year and we’re a family of five. This might be a good thing as I pay for extras like iCloud+, Apple Care and Apple One.

Note to self ...

I should get a new case for my iPhone 13 Mini and be a little more careful with it.
I bought the original Apple leather case with my mini when I bought it.
Now regrets whatsoever, as it was cheaper at that time, and have aged nicely.
So my mini is happy 😎

Next up the article on how Apple had the best quarter with its best margins yet. They didn't shield you from anything, their price went up and so did yours. While there at it make up some margin on the refurbs in stock while they can.

"We know the iPhone Ultra will be out of reach for many of our loyal customers. That's why, starting today, the Apple Indentured Servitude Program is also launching. With the desire to move more of our manufacturing back to the USA, this program will allow you to have a free iPhone Ultra, MacBook Ultra, Apple Watch Ultra 4, Apple TV Ultra, and iPad Ultra when they come out, all while also helping build the devices we all value so much. We love this idea, and we think you will, too."

RAM issues have been ongoing for years now, really? You do realize you could buy a 32GB DDR5 RAM kit this time last year for around $100, which was comparable to the price in 2023 and 2024 as well. Today, the same kit is around $400. I think saying the RAM issues have been going on for years now is a stretch.

You can be as pedantic as you’d like, my point remains.

The strategic way to do it would be to increase the price of the iPhone 17 and 17e when the Pro, Pro Max and Ultra are announced this year, and then sell the 18 and 18e at the same price as they raised the 17 and 17e to.

This give the carriers a chance to adjust to the "new normal", and maybe extend the "old price" to preferred carriers for few months until the 18 and 18e comes out, as a sweetener.

Of course Tim, we understand … please take more of our money so you make your shareholders happy with those incredibly high margins and a treasure chest the size of a country …

Coming soon: the NEW Apple iRAM subscription for your devices. Prices start at $9.99 per month for 16GB per device. iSTORAGE prices yet to be finalized.

Greedflation.

How do we know it’s not about greedflation with Apple?

Greedflation is the idea that some companies increase prices beyond what rising costs would justify, using a period of inflation as an opportunity to boost their profit margins because consumers expect prices to rise anyway.

The strongest evidence is usually when profit margins expand substantially while the company attributes price increases mainly to inflation or rising costs. If costs were the sole reason, margins would tend to stay roughly the same rather than grow.
I think they are taking into account their future rising costs. The industry is predicting processor, RAM, and storage chips to increase in price by 50% EVERY QUARTER FOR THE NEXT TWO YEARS. I'm thinking these price increases are so that they don't have to raise prices as often themselves. Apple will probably have to raise prices for these products again next year, but that's arguably better than what the companies that make Windows computers are doing with raising the price every month as they have been doing all year so far.

Price increases across the board for everything are worth getting wrong answers frequently from chat bots. Bring on the hallucinations!

Isn’t it obvious? RAM Prices!

And it’s not just ram anymore, it’s also the SSD components.

Xbox also raised prices today, their estimations are that components have increased 2.5x since late 2025 and will increase another 2.5x by late 2027.

And Micron seems to have already locked in the supply for the next 5 years:

edit-not a pol thread so pulling my post. I am sure it can be applied in one of those.

Very interesting approach, how they didn't slow roll this at all. Hit you with the shock across almost all product lines at once. Not sure what's better
