I would like to see a Smart Keyboard with Touch Bar.

That makes more sense than specific keys for those functions.

How would you power it? Rechargeable? The iPad would die far quicker if it was having to power an external keyboard that has a touch display on it.

I'm curious to see what Apple releases with the new Ipads. Honestly I'm still leaning towards the Logictech keyboard on their site for my new Ipad Pro. It has function keys. I hope they don't get rid of that one.

For what would you need a Touch Bar with an iPad? o_O
Firstly, Apple have had a touch bar on iPad for a long time - the row above the software keyboard.
A physical Touch Bar would have the functionality of the virtual touch bar in addition to what other keyboards do and more:
  • Volume control
  • Brightness Control
  • Siri
  • Playback control
  • Playback scrubbing (useful for Picture-in-Picture)
  • Emoji/other character selection
  • Existing software bar functionality (e.g. word prediction)
Even without app-specific functionality, it would be great as the current Smart Keyboard doesn't have function keys.

It would be powered by the iPad of course, through a Smart Connector as the current one does.

Given that the iPad Pros (12.9 and 10.5) power almost 5.6 million pixels on their screen, a touch bar containing around 130,000 pixels wouldn't have a great affect. You are saying that this 2% increase in resolution is going to kill the iPad "far quicker"?

I understand resolution is not the only factor, but in addition to the rumored thickness and battery size increases, the A10X chip will likely have the low power cores that the A10 Fusion does not to mention greater efficiency, being a 10nm chip.

We already have the Touch Bar.... it happens to be on the bottom portion of the iPad screen. The touch bar on the macbook Pro came from THAT.
I know, if you read a previous reply to someone else questioning a touch bar on an iPad, I mentioned that exact point. My concept would not only move the predictive text to the keyboard, but would also move other functions to it.

Is an Emoji key really that crazy? People talk in images more than ever and I don't think it's that big of a deal. I think it should be smaller and in a different location but I can see it being extremely useful for those who use them often, which is most people. It doesn't take away "pro-ness" of a machine, and it doesn't impact any of you in anyway. But I mean grow a couple grey hairs if you want. o_O

I bought a Smart Keyboard for my iPad but returned it within 5 minutes of trying it after it was delivered. Once attached and setup the whole keyboard floated above the desk and flapped on every key press. I wasn't impressed. Perhaps v2 will be better.

I was surprised Jobs didn't get rid of the caps lock key ages ago.

It's a holdover from the typewriter era when bolding or italicising words was obviously not possible, and invoking caps-lock was the only option for making words stand out.

I disabled caps-lock on my macs years ago. It's a wasted key.
