I think the idea behind emoji's have shifted focus away from text. They have been around for quite some time, but More than ever, it's evident it's becoming a wider form Of expedited communication or signaling some form of emotion to the receiver. I personally don't use emoji's hardly ever, but more than ever are they expanding in every facet.

If they replaced all the keys with emoji, you'd have a point. It's almost like it's just one key replacing one that's barely used.

You seem like a really unpleasant person if you judge people by their emoji use.

It tells a lot about people.

Except that Multiple presses of Shift can be used for other things. for example, in windows, pressing SHIFT 5 times will enable "STICKY KEY" functionality

or if you're in games. and you've quickly pressed shift multiple times (FPS' use shift for run/walk). you don't want it in Caps lock mode.

the US QWERTY keyboard layout has been around for decades in it's particular form because it's turned out to be a very easy to learn, and useful.

changing anything. moving anything. Removing anything and replacing it with something else, needs to be done extremely carefully.

Actually the QWERTY keyboard has been around for almost 140 years. It was designed to slow typists down. The keys would get stuck because people could type faster than the mechanical keys could move.

lol.. no zero... What will i do !

So, the result would be a keys being narrower on iOS to make space for these extra keys that would act like multi-functio keys ?

I wonder when Apple get to a stage when everything on iOS can be controlled by an on screen keyboard,...... That will get me to move away for sure... :| and to make things "better" lets move that to the Mac so no one has to even click Spotlight *everyone can see*

We are all turning lazy (if it hasn't begun already). I'm starting to predict Apple's goal in life is to **** me off ..

Sad to see the letter 'E' go, as I use it quite often.
I hardly vr us th lttr "".
[doublepost=1487192637][/doublepost]If there isn't an Escape key in the upper left corner, and a key next to "A" that is (or can be turned into) a Control key, then it isn't really a keyboard, it's just a keyboard-like product.

Try hanging out with a lefthanded individual. On a regular computer keyboard I use the mouse with my left hand and the CTRL etc keys with my right. For years it pained me to have to use CTRL-X,C and V with my left, taking my hand off the mouse, until the glorious day when I learned that CTRL-Delete, CTRL-Insert, and Shift-Insert are the lefty equivalents.

I'm sorry...what was this thread about again? :(

True story... during my Windows years in my earlier youth... THESE were the ONLY ones I knew!!! I didn't even know CTRL-C/V/X existed :D

Wonderful, cater to the younger generation, they are our future and communicate with symbols and emojis. Leave the rest of us real computer users behind.
Unless this is a sign of things to come... a future version of Swift, or some other Apple IDE will use emojis!

Only the new generation will know to do when they get a compiler error like...
Error, line 72:
Value of :apple: should be :),, or

Please don't change the keyboard layout!
Replacing the CAPS LOCK and the DELETE Keys makes no sense.
Add these new keys somewhere else.

My 14" HP Chromebook actually has neither of these. Well, not dedicated keys... The Caps lock key has been replaced with the find app/search button (on the machine, but AFAIK, also works for searching on the web).

However, you can still do caps lock by pressing "Alt + that search button", and do Delete by pressing alt + Delete. I will admit, I've gotten used to that. The tradeoff of removing those (and I'm sure) other dedicated buttons is the keys are nice and large, unlike a typical windows laptop where the keys are naturally smaller in order to cram them all in.

Last but not least, even though this worked out well for a Chromebook, I doubt I'd like to see this in a Mac keyboard. I could certainly say that for a Windows machine.

Careful! We won't be that far off before we lose the '3' key as well!

I bought a Smart Keyboard for my iPad but returned it within 5 minutes of trying it after it was delivered. Once attached and setup the whole keyboard floated above the desk and flapped on every key press. I wasn't impressed. Perhaps v2 will be better.

It stops doing that and will lie perfectly flat after like an hour or two of use.

Emojis and watch bands, because that's really all you need. The Mac line of computers be damned! If they do ever update any of the other Macs they will probably sell a special edition all emoji keyboard.

It's an unfortunate inevitability. I can't stand emoji but they are popular with women and children. I don't know a single woman under the age of 40 or child that doesn't use them.

If emoji dominate user numbers, it's something that we have to accept.

Ha, that is interesting. I did not know about those commands.
