They will still report revenue.

The thing is, these trade in are done by Bright-star and partners, and the price are set by the 2nd hand market. Once there are far too many 2nd Hand iPhone 6 / 6s / 7 these trade in prices will drop.

But revenue is useless in counting shipment quantities.

There are carriers offering buy one, get one free on these phones (some aren't even requiring a new line or trade in) and still can't sell them why does Apple think offering more trade in value will make them sell?

They are truly overpriced and honestly don't have the best features out there among flagship phones right now.
I don’t know how “overpriced” they are. I just think iPhones have gotten to the point where most normal folks are fine with their devices. They don’t lust after phones—they lust after other things, things that would probably make MR readers scratch their heads.

I am pretty sure you wont get your old phone back, may be they could do a refund. ( Your Trade in as Apple Store Gift Card and refund the rest to your credit card )
I agree and get that feeling it will be gone by the next day. If I were to return my new phone, I would be out of a phone and have no choice to keep the new one. I would definitely have to speak to Apple before making the trade & buy.

Yeah, that's so true. Apple's problem is that they've sold a ton of awesome quality iPhones and set too much of their company's bottom line on these devices. No one wants to trade their nice smartphones in since it costs so much money.

It's isn't a death knell, but this sure makes one think.
Apple: Makes a product last so long that people don't upgrade every 2-3 years
Also Apple: Wonders why no one is upgrading

I'm calling BS on this, every day and twice on Sunday. Links?

this with the news that apple is slashing orders from suppliers...again, and that every apple fan boy youtubers pumping out why you should upgrade to the Xr, sounds like the Xr sale is doing even worse then ppl making it out to be. just my 2 cents

I hate trade-in promotions. They do absolutely nothing for me, because I always like to hand down my previous phone to family or friends rather than trade it in.

I can see why Apple does this, though; handing my phone down means they make only one sale instead of possibly two. In fact, I wonder if this is one of the reasons Apple is selling fewer phones. Let's say there's one member of the family who is a major tech geek and likes to always have the latest phone every year. He or she keeps buying new phones and handing the previous phone down to family members. Right now the iPhone 6, 6s, 7 and 8 are extremely capable phones, so those family members just hang onto those and don't buy new phones.

At the end of the day, Apple makes fewer sales because the old phones end up having really long service lives.

Downside is without Apple releasing numbers anymore, we will never have the answer to your (our) confusion. We can only speculate.

Maybe their stock dive will wake them up to start listening to consumer wants and stop ignoring our requests.

Apple listening to customer product wants has never happened before. The release of the iPod and iPhone easily come to mind.

Both panned. Hard. The iPhone would be a flop because it didn't have a mechanical keyboard. And all the high schoolers amazingly adept at triple-tapping mechanical keys at a lightning rate on Nokia/Ericsson/Alcatel/Motorola/Lucent/Sony phones to send texts to their friends would never go for a glass keyboard. Never.

Oh... And yeah, the iPad...it's just being a large iPhone. Who in the world asked for that?

Is it Cook or the group of shareholders that have power enough to push for higher profits?

Wall Street analysts have a ton of influence. Ultimately, I suspect, it's Cook and Maestri with guidance from the board to make that determination.

Apple's profit margins at 38% are within industry norms. Samsung's are 47%, Microsoft is at 67%. A tech company I used to work for strived for 80% introducing a new product. Depends on the type of company.

I went to the Apple store just because of this offer to trade in my iPhone 6s. $200 is a solid value without the hassle of eBay or craigslist. But after playing around with the Xs, saw no compelling reason to trade my phone in, especially at that price of $799 after the trade in. Xr did not appeal to me to begin with. 6s is pretty solid and with the new battery that I put in, its as good as new.

6s is still plenty fast enough and it has the 3.5mm jack! If I had a 6s i'd no way upgrade, it's still a very good phone. Now the iPhone 6, that thing really requires patience to use at this point

Agreed. My wife's 6+ was getting long in the tooth. Even through $200 is a very decent trade in offer as far as retail sales go, I just threw it in the drawer; a need will always pop up. Considering the length of time she keeps her phones and the heavy usage they get, the XR is a really nice bump even at full price.

If anything, it's comforting to have a spare phone around in case one of your current phones ***** the bed.

They're also great for random tasks like recording video for a few hours or streaming music over WiFi without tying up your main device. I know someone who had an old 5S full of music on a dock permanently plugged into his living room sound system.

No skin in this game but I did find this: https://www.phonearena.com/news/Verizon-iPhone-XR-Google-Pixel-3-deal-BOGO_id112102 Not exactly buy an XS get an XS but you get an XR.
Thanks for the effort, but not even remotely what the OP was implying. Not only does Verizon include the Pixel 3 in that deal, so everyone can go ahead and start slagging on Google along with Apple, but that deal is filled with conditions and terms of service. It is the same deal we see all the time to get people into a wireless contract. Sure, no trade in needed. Try to terminate that service contract 1 month in a feel free to pay off that full price, pro-rated early termination fee. Not what I call a free and clear BOGO.
