My 70s radio still works

Radios were mature technology in the 1970s.

If you had bought radios when they first came about, you'd have been regularly upgrading too, to take advantage of new features like improved sensitivity, selectivity, FM reception, then later FM stereo, transition from tubes to solid-state and so on.

Sure, a 1920s radio might still WORK in 1930, but you're missing out by not upgrading it.

Phones are starting to become mature technology now. They're not quite there yet, but eventually the urge to replace so often will wane.

another thing I noticed and so obvious, apple is asking the iPhone 7 users to upgrade to XR at the same time they are selling the iPhone 7 :)

They should have dropped the iPhone 7/7+, iPad Pro 10.5, MacBook Air USB 3.0, MacBook Pro non touch version and so on (and price adjust). That is courage! I bet this will happen around early spring 2019.

Refurbished store sells ton of products which are more than 3 + year old technology, it is just bad marketing.

So following the logic presented above regarding overpriced...any manufacturer that offers any incentives, rebates, givebacks or some type of quid-pro-quo the manufacturer is admitting their products are overpriced by the amount of the givebacks.

Samsung is/was giving away tv, if you bought the note 9, must be the note 9 is overpriced by the amount the tv would have sold for.

Apple has never done these things and they’re doing it all of a sudden when sales are slow?

Man some of you need a reality check. Apple doesn’t give a damn about you (or me) so why defend them so bad?

Apple obviously see two markets:
  • One market is for upgrades or switchers to the iPhone 7.
  • The other market is for upgrades from the iPhone 7 to a later model.:)

Apple has never, never offered a trade-in before? Or some incentives to upgrade your phone?

The only reality check is that none of us know what the real story is.

And if apple doesn’t give a damn about you (or me) then if we shouldn’t defend them we shouldn’t criticize them either.

I defend Apple when I feel that certain news articles about them are blatantly untrue. I know that Apple doesn't care about me beyond a company-customer relationship, and frankly, that's irrelevant.

You don't know how sales are doing. All we have are accounts from individual component suppliers, which by themselves don't really say much. For instance, Apple could have shifted orders from Company A to Company B, but if we only hear from A, you would think that Apple was producing fewer iPhones due to declining orders.

Likewise, I can think of a few other reasons, which aren't that out there, just that once again, people would rather just assume the worst of Apple than even consider alternative possibilities.

For one, we know that Apple has always offered their own trade-in programs but the take-up rate has been low because of the poor rates offered. Apple could be trying to drive more traffic to their own stores, and if you want more customers to trade in their phones directly to Apple rather than to third-party resellers, it makes sense to increase the trade-in amounts, doesn't it?

As for what Apple wants to do with the second hand phones, they could sell them in the grey market, or simply be trying to reduce the number of older iPhones in circulation to reduce support costs.

Lastly, let me turn your question around. Are you all so eager to hate on Apple that you would blindly believe any negative news article about them, even if it turns out to not be true? What does that say about the people who knowingly choose to do this, moreso than us who are trying to set the record straight?

Makes you wonder who the real sheep here are, doesn't it?

Is this worth trading in my 7 Plus for? My mic and battery are going out. My only concern is the screen resolution. What say you MR? I’m in Portland Oregon if that matters . Have an Apple store downtown. Thanks and happy Holliday’s.
I would say that if you have mike and battery problems then go for it definitely, but if you can go for the XSMax then you have the same size phone with higher screen resolution than with the 7+
If you don't change it then you will probably have a phone worth nothing in a short while whereas it's worth $300+ at the moment so you will lose that if you do nothing. Plus, you'll have all the benefits of the new technology you will be able to enjoy.
I just changed my wife's 7+ for an XSMax against her will. She insisted she didn't need a new phone, loved her 7+ ....told me no but now she's really loves the Max and it's clear to see big differences in many many ways. It's a much bigger jump than you realise until you get one. And instead of clunking along and having to change it in a year or so anyway, she's got something that'll be good for another 3 or 4 years
So I'd say go for it but get the Max.

But the Apple defence league keep saying that they aren't and that everything negative is just fake news and is a huge conspiracy.

Or is it fake news that Apple is doing this? I am just so confused.
This is definitely fake news, nothing to see here.:D

So basically lower the price of the XS and that's it. No need for XR model.
Sounds good to me

Companies do initiatives like this when sales are strong

I could think up some smart quip here, but it is Christmas time, so Happy Christmas instead :)

Yes, especially when you can just buy a new battery and return your two or three year old phone to new.
Something we didn't know about last update cycle. Something Apple willfully hid from us, conspired
to make us think otherwise with clandestine throttling, bogus battery tests and declarations that our phones were perfectly healthy and that their slowing down was due to our demanding apps and "well, guess if you want a faster phone, maybe it's time you consider upgrading," said the Genius.

The chickens of Throttle Gate have come home to roost.

Might very well be fake news as secretive as apple is, these rebates may have been in the works for months.

All. The. Time. Strike while the iron is hot is the expression.

Happy Holidays.

I'm really glad that they've launched this offer in EU. I live in Germany and today I went to find out how much they would give for my iPhone 7, which was without any accessories and was used for over 2 years without a case. The phone worked almost perfectly, nothing was cracked and the battery was just fine. But it had a lot of visible scratches on the back and some micro scratches on the front. So, they gave me 250 EUR in credit, which was awesome and I immediately agreed to purchase the iPhone Xs, which ended up with 899 EUR for me. I think. it's a good deal, cause basically I didn't spend time, trying to sell my iPhone (and there is no way I'd sell it for 250 EUR in that condition and without accessories) + I got a brand new Xs, which for me definitely feels like a level up after the iPhone 7. So, I think that the offer is really awesome, though I also agree that Apple has overpriced its products too much lately.

What will they give me for a iPhone 6s in good condition?

I nearly bought a Xr when they came out but (like many others I suspect) when I found out they don't do a 128GB option I binned the whole idea.

I hope they get rid of the LCD XR next year and drop the entry price for the smaller OLED model to $799. If they try to keep their current pricing then they will not have learned a goddamn thing.

The market has spoken. Now the ball is in Apple’s court.

How has the market spoken? There is only conjecture about this entire sales “slump”.

Features are OK for me, i dont need them to reinvent the wheel every year, but the prices.... Atleast 20% overpriced in norway, where i live! And that is every Apple product. Been Apple fanboy since IPhone 4s, but if the cost of their products are as high as today when i swap my XS, i will look to other brands. (Reguardless of features, tech or other «wooow-factors) At this point the only people that can defend Apple pricing are shareholders and stock-sharks that «benefit» from it!!!!‍♂️

I guess I would get $150/$200 for my 6S Plus 64gb? I’m in Canada and have been eyeing the XR.

If I wasn't only one year into owning my X, I would definitely purchase he Xr just for the camera. It's that good. And the phone is very well priced.

Next year, for sure.

Stock manipulation?

You may not be aware that the US stock market and indices are down across the board. This last week alone has seen the market's worst plunge since the financial crisis in 2008. The Dow and S&P 500 have had the worst December since the 1931 Depression.

The S&P 500 is now down about 17% from its peak back in October, two months ago; the DOW is down about 16%. And the NASDAQ down about 22%. All over the last 2-3 months.

I'd be glad to further elaborate as to the reasons, but I'd be getting into PRSI issues which would not be appropriate for this thread.

That was kind of the point @Count Blah was making. They were highlighting that the ADL have been blaming the share price drop on market manipulation, via negative press.

You are aiming your comments at entirely the wrong audience. ;)
