Selling millions of iphones and innovation of hardware are two different thongd

This is true, innovation for smart phones has plateaued, and will continue that way, because all these phones are technically offering the same type of technology in some form or fashion. Innovation isn’t ‘dead’ for Apple or any other competitor, what happens is, stagnancy sets in, because consumers sometimes like to believe that smart phones should offer something ‘groundbreaking’ every year, when that’s not the maturity process for any smart phone in todays market.

What we’re seeing with Apple, Samsung, Google, etc., is saturation where consumers are being throttled due to higher price points with phones, causing them to retain their devices for longer.

Honestly the main thing I want on Apple is USB-C and hopefully a much improved camera this year.
I’d like to see FaceID more responsive and faster.
Lastly I wish a much bigger battery and improved fast charging.

What do you expect from Apple? Their trickle feed of "innovative" has been doing them well enough when they are selling millions of units.

Can you even imagine designing and creating a product that sells globally in these numbers year on year?

How is Apple behind when last gen chip is still faster than the fastest alternative?

I’m not an Apple fanboy but this is off it’s rocker. There’s no other phone that’s as complete. Sure you have the pixel with a great camera and AI (about to be outdone). Then you had Samsung with better water proofing. Then someone else with something else. But I haven’t seen anyone put it all into one complete package as good as the iPhone. I don’t see seemless OS integration.

Someone might have a great idea but execution is poor and I don’t want a bigger phone with rounded screen edges. Drove me nuts. Apple is by far the best in the game for the complete package. Their biggest fault is creating too good a product. My iPhone X is two years old, still looks new, is already so fast it’s ridiculous, and honestly doesn’t give me any reason to upgrade. I’m buying the new phone coming to hand this one to someone else but really I don’t feel the need.

That's your opinion about cpu. I have another about it. An Arm can't be more than an Arm.

It’s not an opinion it’s a literal fact. You can see the numbers.
It’s true, no other company has been able to match what Apple has done with their os integration across multiple devices. And as for making a well rounded device that just works, Apple does pretty damn well at that too. So I agree with the point you made.

Wow.. You guys really do have the wool pulled over your eyes..

There is no comparison to say the Note 10 + vs XS Max

  1. 4300mah battery
  2. 6.8 Inch georgeous panel, Higher resolution.
  3. HDR 10+ Support
  4. S-pen stylus
  5. 12GB of ram
  6. Triple camera + time-in-flight camera
  7. 256GB standard ufs3 storage
  8. In-Display finger print sensor
  9. USB-C
  10. Android Auto destroys Apple Car Play
  11. 25watt charging, optional 45w..
  12. Lighter weight

I could go on and on, frankly it's not even close..

What is seemless OS integration? What does that mean?

It means a seemless is integration. An OS is an operating system that works on hardware (computer parts) so a seemless integration means the operating system works basically without fault with its hardware. If you really need it explained then you might already be over your head.

Can it send “messages” to my MacBook, airdrop, etc? A larger battery on a device that’s more power hungry with a crappier processor, HDR 10 (amazing but you can’t find it), you can buy more storage, who the hell uses a stylus?, Android auto ***** the bed compared to Apple car play.

People can talk specs all they want but it’s like saying you have a faster processor on a slower OS. What’s the point when it’s already buttery smooth.

Apple behind? The whole industry has reached plateau with reduced demand for new devices.

Someone who gets it. Every competitor in the smart phone industry is not doing anything groundbreaking, Face ID was a fairly large introduction, but the price points and technology has stagnated. It’s not a bad thing, it’s just something that has affected all major smart phone players. Generally all the smart phones do the same thing, but consumers don’t necessarily care about every feature/capability, it’s a multi tool to them, not an investment.

I'm an engineer bro. I was being sarcastic.

Yes, it can send messages from your PC or Mac. Numerous test show the battery outlasts the iPhone XS Max.. Apple maps vs Google maps? Finally Apple gave in and now you can use Google Maps.. I use the stylus constantly.. That's why the Note line is so popular. Guess you can use your finger on Iphone..

Samsung has ALWAYS been ahead on paper, but that real world usage though ‍♂️

Not here to argue, get what works best for YOU. However, the premise of this thread is click bait at best.

Apple used to be a leader an innovator when it came to iPhones but now it seems that Apple cares more about services for the iPhone. Really hate to see Samsung and others make more enticing phones
If Apple gives people new styles of iPhones people would upgrade quicker

Yout forgot to add "apple will be out of business in the next ____ of years because android hardware is so much more advanced". People have been saying this for years.

I know I’m late to this thread but from here on out it’s going to be a software game and whoever has the best services will win IMO.

Apple is way ahead of the curve on that front as I believe Samsung has been focusing on hardware but has neglected the services aspect and will have try to catch up, Google though has a great suite of services but the tie in isn’t as polished as it is on iOS.

The funny thing is it’s been a software game since 2007 when the iPhone was first introduced. Software has always been what has set apple ahead of their competitors. It seems that some people are only just discovering this now...

Indeed, people passionate about tech often assume everybody wants the very best but times have changed. So many people I know are keeping phones much longer than they used to. Why? Because they do what people expect them to do. Those that I know are upgrading are getting the XR which is be no means Apples flagship offering but it offers what people want at a good price. I can upgrade now and am being pestered by my carrier but I don’t need to. The 8+ I’m using works as well as it did the day I got it. I don’t care that it’s not the top iPhone as that’s really irrelevant in 2019.

You are just listing specs and most aren’t that impressive

Bigger battery bit battery life I bet is the same as the max never mind the new iPhones which will get a bigger battery

The camera on the max is very close to the note 10 but next week the new iPhone camera will again be better than the note 10 plus

12GB of ram? Nice but Apple can cope with 4GB...why? Because the software can handle it better

FP scanner? Still from the sounds isn’t that great and still can’t compare with Face ID in all areas

iPhone will finally have 18W charging which is enough. Wireless charging is all that’s needed for most as your phone should be lasting most of the day anyway

So really what you listed isn’t really impressive

iPhones run a far better OS so as good as the note is the software will always let it down

This is true. I always thought since the first iteration of iphoneOS  just nailed the look!! It was so sexy from the beginning Android cannot say the same, it was so hideous looking it’s laughable. From cupcake in 2008 all the way to practically lollipop in 2015 (which finally looked decent) the software just looked liked a kindergartner made it. Maybe that’s why rooting and themeing was so big back then cause we were all trying to cover up the ogre with some makeup haha.

Even now after checking out the new hotness in the Android world I’m amazed at some of the basic functions that Android still lacks in the software department.  is king of the attention to detail in iOS and that all adds up for me anyway.

Shwaaa??? Cameras/imaging tech/AI are just now breaking into an entirely new era. Higher megapixel and cleaner photos by pixel shifting, WAY better low light capabilities, and AI that google has proven can change everything. Photos that are continual live streams so the best parts of each are used. Newly powerful processors that offer 4K videos and faster/continuous shooting. New security chips. Hardware video recording and now editing/encoding which until recently was just a pipe dream.

What are people expecting? These designs and thought processes started years ago. There’s more going on now with hardware than ever before and Apple is at the lead by a long shot. You can tout anything on paper. Samsung can have a higher screen-to-body ratio but I had to return it because there’s always a glare around the edges and it’s easier to break and harder to protect. You have phones with more RAM but what’s that outside of a number? I’ve yet to find anything my iPhone X hasn’t done fluidly. There zero lag or stutters here.

I prefer android over iOS and it’s why I tried to go back but Apple has managed a better integration with its hardware and a better ecosystem. They aren’t behind in hardware they’re just ahead in the whole industry. If google made a pixel that didn’t look fugly, was more compact, and offered the operational ability of the iPhone I’d be all over it. I don’t like the closed iOS ecosystem and I prefer the Android file system but here I am paying a premium for the Apple products because they one thing they aren’t is behind the times.

Most other companies market things that don’t matter. “WE HAVE 5G!!!” Well you know who doesn’t, the actual planet you’re using it on and in a few years when, if ever, it’s relevant then I’ll have a new phone by then. 5G will suck anyway it has no range, is blocked by everything, and when webpages are a few KB and you’re on a 20+mb connection already is there really any benefit? If you can stream 4K and play anything effortlessly then where’s the benefit to you? Get practical first and stop worrying about spec sheets then you’ll see what really matters and who’s still driving the bus.

I've been observing this thread and not commenting because a lot of this is just opinions and the typical Android vs iOS nonsense. With that said, I cant see how anyone can say Car Play is better than Android Auto. They are worlds apart IMO. Android Auto, especially with the new UI that released recently, is so far ahead of Car Play its almost hard to compare them. Android Auto is more aesthetically pleasing, more important information is available, its easier to switch between the apps you use the most, and most of all Google Assistant is SO much better than Siri. For a software thats built around being hands off, the assistants ability is important and again its not even close between the two.

With regards to the whole iPhone hardware falling behind...agree and disagree. When it comes down to hardware only, iphones are still better than 99% of the other devices available. The only ones that really beat them are Samsung which are squarely the leaders in that department. And Im not talking about processing and RAM because iOS is more efficient with RAM so packing 12 GB of RAM in a phone doesnt mean anything because its not an apples to apples (no pun intended) comparison. And when it comes to build quality, its Samsung and Apple and then a big drop off to everyone else. However, if you look at things like display quality, form factor, weight, storage speed, charging speed, and battery life I thinks its pretty fair to say Apple have fallen behind in those areas.

Software is another discussion and one a lot more based on preferences and its been discussed to death so no point going into that.

I suspect the last part of your paragraph is entirely true with the mindset of most consumers today. If they have a phone that simply works as they intend without any hardware issues, they don’t care if it’s not the latest iPhone. They focus on other things that they’re probably investing their money in, smart phones are one thing and one thing only, they are [multi tool and a commodity]. As for tech users on sites like this, they’re obviously more intrigued about upgrading to the latest device, but that’s not the average mindset with prices that are pushing consumers to keep their devices longer for XYZ reasons.

I haven’t tried the lastest but on my old 2017 GMC Sierra it flat sucked. It ruined every search, wrecked every voice command, and didn’t play well with Spotify. CarPlay works fantastic in my land rover and I couldn’t ask for better. I don’t use voice commands for anything as they all seem a gimmick

I don’t agree. With the exception of charging speed, which the trade-off is battery life, Samsung does beat Apple. Storage speed and display quality there is no clear winner.
