Looking at the list it seems like Apple isn't the only company whose ranking was badly inflated and many of them have yet to have their ratings brought back to earth.

Seriously thou, Jobs was a leader, Cook is a manager and you can now clearly see the difference in how companies operate when they're run by one or the other in comparing the Apple of today to when Jobs was still firmly in charge.

Turns out that Jobs' often abrasive style where he encouraged different teams to openly compete with each other and even defy direct orders behind his back if they were truly convinced he was wrong produced more innovation and interesting products than Cook's "Let's all just get along, eh?" management style.

That and simply over-stretching themselves with so many products they can't hope to support all of them properly. While Jobs annoyed a lot of people when he killed things like the 17" laptops, Newton, original Macbook and most of what Apple made in the mid 90s, at least that allowed them to focus on a few good products rather than lots of very "Meh" products like most of Apple's competitors.

No wonder. Apple is becoming a fashion brand quickly instead of being an innovative technology brand. Apple seems quite clueless and directionless on technology. Fashion is a cheap escape and a sure way to go down in the end.

According to Jobs his predecessor Amelio had said "Apple is like a ship with a hole in the bottom, leaking water, and my job is to get the ship pointed in the right direction".

The hole seems to back. I'm not sure if Cook is the right person on the right spot.

These boards are so funny, everyone is so anti-Apple.

What’s really funny is that these people didn’t bother to take a look at the list. None of their favorite Apple killers are even on the list. Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi, Tesla, NONE of them are on the list. Now that’s funny!

People don't know anymore what innovation even means. The word has been repeated so many times it has lost all meaning.

We know exactly what it means to Cook. It means standing on stage and using words like "incredible" and "thin." It means generating even more profit on dwindling sales. It means running a brand into the ground until there is nothing more to squeeze out of it. It means chasing the other tech companies in research because Apple does not have the internal organization to innovate.

Spot on. I have been writing Mac software since 1987 - when MPW cost $1500 and documentation came in a 3-ring binder. Apple has been a ship without a rudder since Jobs died and now that aimless ship even has a few holes in it that can't be plugged with emojis.

I’d put them lower personally. This and the story in dropping iPhone sales is why people say Apple is on the decline, not finished or ‘DOOMED’, but certainly in the decline.
And all since Cook took charge...

And who would you put above Apple? You realize, don’t you, that Google, Amazon, Samsung, et al, aren’t even on the list. In fact no computer, tablet, or smartphone manufacturer is on the list other than Apple. Only Apple is on the list. What do you have to say about that?

Yeah typical response. I would not expect anything else.

I think this is spot on, Apple stop innovating (or at least not enough as other companies). If Apple got top spot then it wouldn't be fair.
As someone mentioned recently somewhere - Apple became boring company with little risks and very conservative innovation. This from Apple are no longer breakthrough or even risky. They just go with the safe option and its been like that for few years now.

They wanted to reinvent the notebook market and all they came up with was flawed keyboard and most importantly touchbar that is just useless and anyone that tells me its way more productive is probably delusional or has weird workflow.
Apple Watch is slow on innovation - the ECG is amazing but its not available to most people so its kinda of a concept for now (yeah i know, not apple's fault but still customers have to wait).
Mac Pro is still months away
Mac mini was long overdue and the result is nothing amazing. Just uptodate specs and thats about it
Apple Displays are still months away
iPhone has matured and honestly there really is nothing amazing these days (apart from making the screens bigger and bigger)
iMac - hasn't been updated for almost 2 years (really Apple?)
software is all over the place
iPad - the new ones are nice but why did they skip on the stronger aluminium is beyond me

Apple needs kick in the butt. Their 'laser focus' Tim constantly talks about is not really visible and it definitely doesn't show up in the products. IF Apple keeps going this way then they may have a bigger problem on their hands.

I joined Apple family in 2006 and since then had only their products but if they don't pick up the mess I might have to start thinking about potential switch. Not sure where though as I'm not a fan of windows but will see.

For now I really hope Apple will make up for the lost time and mess over the recent years and will focus on the right things in the pipeline. Quality software and hardware is a must. Its cool gimmick to have more animoji but those things should come AFTER the main things like stability, security etc.

It doesn't matter who publishes the ranking but more importantly it is the customer who ultimately are the ones making the purchase of the product. Some of these publishers and reports are just an extension of marketing for companies listed.

I think many people just don't like the hypocrisy and contradictory nature of many Apple "fans". When Apple innovates (iPhone) they point out how "innovative" Apple is yet when Apple enters an established market (streaming service) all we hear from Apple fans is "Apple waits and does it right"; in other words copying something NOT innovating.

It seems Apple fans want "innovation" AND the ability to copy (but call it "doing it right").

In other words have their cake and eat it.

But is there anything wrong with copying? I honestly don’t care if apple is second to every race, as long as they continue providing an experience that is better than the rest of the industry.

Would anyone really be better off if no one copied?

This is all just a bunch of poppy-cock to me because the A12 is an amazing piece of silicon. Thats innovative af in my opinion, forget all the consumer bells and whistles because these rankings are a beauty pageant in my eyes.

LOL. Apple IS doomed. Sorry, buddy. Once Pope Jobs dropped Computer from Apple Computer. The beginning of the end was when the stupid iPod came out. I saw it then. I called it. I was right in the end. The iPod failed. And it took down Apple with it.

You sure have a strange idea of what failed means if you think the iPod failed?

Amazon for the innovations in Alesa and its drive to make it successful and in every device going.
Google, nah but I do think their app for Google WiFi is worthy of an award.
Apart from that their are many other things and companies in this world that rightly deserve to be placed way way higher then Apple. Although Apples been pretty good with its watch and the sensors it has I have to say.

Welcome traveler from another universe, where Microsoft Zune was number one, giant airships dock at the top of soaring skyscrapers, and free range unicorns poop strawberry ice cream. How does that parallel universe thing work - is it like a Flash scenario, or Fringe, or something more along the lines of the recently cancelled but very excellent Counterpart on STARZ?

I'd say the first portable, on wrist, FDA approved ECG is a pretty big innovation. They mentioned Apple Watch Series 3 last year, which barely had any inovation and didn't mention the Series 4 this year? o_O

“Can’t innovate any more, my ass”.

Nope, it would seem.

Yeah and that innovation nearly killed the Mac Pro. They really need to knock it out of the park this June and show off some new iMacs (finally, forever killing the mechanical hard drive), as well as giving us all the details of the new Mac Pro and pro monitor. It’s time for Apple to wow people again.

And yet the dead Mac Pro has mattered not one whit to Apple or the universe at large. It’s sad that a lot of folks have had to switch to windows boxes to do things pros need to do, but it hasn’t destroyed the company, and hasn’t made a dent in their earnings or affected the overall industry in any meaningful way.
