I've cancelled a photo shoot at IAH-Intercontinental Airport just for this event!
It'll be interesting to see what how they came up with Hi-Fi.

They will be probably announced a bit later...

What I would like to see is a

Intel Duo Core 2Ghz Mac Mini Media Center
Up to 2GB DDR2
Radeon x1600 256MB
With A high speed sound setup, Multiple Ins and outs for Speakers, Midi, Optical etc
Also, with a Dual TV Tuner w/ AM & FM as well.
DVI and HDMI ports out
8x Super Drive
and in the same style and case as the old mac mini

It can be more than 500$, as long as its worth it.

boo, no more ipods/entertainment-only products!! I want a revival of the ultra-durable, touch-screen emate/newton!!($500>) (possibly to replace the ibook?...) There is still no real solution for a full-fledged OSX-integrated PDA (TX got only so-so reviews...) Wifi, touchscreen, ruggedized, 20hr battery, I can dream....

I am still thinking about the message apple is sending by using the iCal symbol on the invitation. It has to be more than "just" music and video.

ichat on the new iPod, that would be cool but it would need some type of cell phone network to be usable anywhere. and if that were the case than we would be on our way to busting out our iPod to do a quick video conference on the go. i'd say about eight years.

I think we are in for some media goodies today.

I dont think we are quite ready for a Wide Screen Video iPod.

Surely we are ready for an 'iTunes Pay-Per-View Movie Service' that we can access through Front Row on our lovely new Intel Mac Mini.

All we would have to do is connect our HD-TV to the video out on our shiny new Airport Express and hook up our 5.1 Surround Sound system to the optical output (dont tell me we will need to wait for 'WiFi N', the 54Mbps of 'G' far exceeds the Data Rate on DVD's).

FIRST: HDTV data rates are well beyond what would be economical or feasible; it aint gonna happen... check back in a couple years

SECOND: If Apple is going to unveil a movie service with a Mini tie in of any kind, they are going to have to re-encode all that video content into much higher quality. Those videos look fine on an iPod, but look like crap at any kind of normal size...

i seriously hope so (Asteroid). I was very excited when that rumor happened and it would be a great product for GarageBand. Plus no other computer company has anything like it.

Yeah, but aside from "a lot of audio inputs" I don't see how such a device would be "innovative"...

Also, the market for such a device will be extremely limited.

Considering that my cable company has a 180MB hard drive in their STB, I think it's possible. But the question is can they handle both standard definition and high definition material? That I don't know.

I added a 500GB external SATA drive to the cable company's dvr box. That makes a huge difference in recording and saving stuff.

I would expect if Apple wants to go this route, they could do it with their current form factor. Externals would permit people to go with much larger storage options.

I guess we don't have too long to wait. :p

Yeah, but your set top box does not have a complex processor, like a G4, in it or OSX. Nor is your cable company trying to make money off of it.

An Apple Media center does not need a processor strong enough to run OSX, just something powerful enough to run Front Row. It doesn't even need OSX. Really, who's going to do any standard computer functions on their TV, even if it is 1080p? An Apple Media center needs to just be a bare bones system with a nice DVD player, eventually Blu-Ray, the ability to attach an iPod and what amounts to an AirPort Express built in for transferring content from iTunes. However, I wouldn't think we'd see this hard and heavy until Blu-Ray is adopted as the winner of the format war...if it's even a war anymore.

I could be wrong, but I think a DVR just adds an element of complication that Apple does not need to concern themselves with...regionality of scheduling, NTSC/PAL/SECAM, etc. With the iTMS not yet worldwide, why jump into this? Other have already posted the question of conflict between selling shows, and presenting a product that allows you to bypass the buying process.

I believe it was a small joke by Steve, as when he first moved back to Apple he was the Interim CEO iCEO hence the names iMac, etc. etc. :p

Thats what I heard too from MacUser magazine in UK.

iTunes Update pre-release for today?

Has anyone looked at the iTunes update from yesterday for clues as to the releases we'll see today?

Agreed, that's a nice setup. But we don't need both DVI and HDMI as a converter would be fine. The tuner sounds fine, but I could live without it to save space/money. Would love to see the optical out. PHAT.

Would buy something close to this today. As long as it had the optical out with the an Intel chip.
