Streaming

Two questions:
When do they normally put a streaming video of an Apple event on the site?
Does live coverage include video? If yes, is the quality acceptable

I just want to follow the keynote without knowing what will happen, I really like the way Steve handles it.

Oh, and one more thing, are you sure it starts at 19 GMT ?

Yeah, I agree with that. However, by the time you know what new products are available, they're out of stock in the on-line store. ;)

i'm sorry, but i could care less about an ipod boombox and an intel mac mini...
a seperate media event for these two items? come on...

I live in the same time Zone as Cupertino, CA.
My time right ....now is 8am...the event starts at 10am...in other words, you have time (2 hours) to go to the cinema, catch a flick, and get back to your 'puter to get the lowdown...
...what are you going to see?

Time difference

There is a -8 hour difference between GMT and PST.

10 am PST is therefore 8 hours behind GMT so the event starts at 18.00 GMT.

Not expecting to hear much until 19.00 though

What I would like to see is a

Intel Duo Core 2Ghz Mac Mini Media Center
Up to 2GB DDR2
Radeon x1600 256MB
With A high speed sound setup, Multiple Ins and outs for Speakers, Midi, Optical etc
Also, with a Dual TV Tuner w/ AM & FM as well.
DVI and HDMI ports out
8x Super Drive
and in the same style and case as the old mac mini

It can be more than 500$, as long as its worth it.

Do you want a Mac mini or a Mac media. Your product requirements don't fit a Mac mini. That's a low-end machine, you're talking mid-end, or high end media machine here. IMHO, some people just loose reality here. And it's not necessarily Jobs RDF that causes it....

By the way, Kevin Rose had it right twice in a row on the announcements. Haven't heard from him this time. Anyone know if he has published his thoughts on today's announcement?

Its definitely 6pm GMT. You should all have your Dashboard World Clocks set to Cupertino time!

iTunes international

I really hope one of the minor announcements will be video content in all countries. In Belgium, we are still awaiting music videos, series (and movies)
Is there anybody else here that doesn't have video and is quite angry for it?

Thanks for your post, though.

I myself would never buy the product described in the rumours...however I'm an Apple zombie...hypnotized by products whiteness.

The Pink Panther, of course

FIRST: HDTV data rates are well beyond what would be economical or feasible; it aint gonna happen... check back in a couple years

SECOND: If Apple is going to unveil a movie service with a Mini tie in of any kind, they are going to have to re-encode all that video content into much higher quality. Those videos look fine on an iPod, but look like crap at any kind of normal size...

Maybe HDTV content over the internet is far off!!!

MPEG4 (namely H264) looks like 'crap' when data rates are low, when data rates are upped the exceed DVD quality. The reason ITMS 'DOWNLOADABLE' video are at low data rate is because of legalities.

I dont see why they cant 'STREAM' at higher data rates through A Pay-Per-View service. They dont have to change downloadable content. Anyway I cant see them putting a whole load of movies on ITMS to Download (unless when you buy a movie download, they send you a free 500 Gig HDD to store them all on, cos they aint gonna let you burn em to DVD)

Movie downloads

If the sale of movies on iTunes would be announced, there should be at least some good release titles, probably Pixar, some of Steve's favorites, and some blockbusters. Anyone wanna guess what they will be? give your 5 favorites

Well - I can't afford to buy anything (probably a good thing!) so I'll be watching with pure interest! And I hope there's some free software updates, maybe a new version of iTunes?

Well, I am off to bed...

I have to go to Osaka tomorrow in business, so off to bed for me. I will check what the world is up to in the morning...

I like some of the ideas floating around...

The PS3 tie-up suggestion from 'Yamamoto' was an interesting one...

I like the idea of a media center - and who's to say it is not some extension of a CABLE system and not just internet - wouldn't that give you more band to work with?

And I think the technoloy is there for a REAL vidPod - but not sure on pricing...

And i think that mobile computing is going the way of the sugested MacTablets or TabMaclets or whatever you want to call them, but now? It could explain why Apple went with the 15" MBP as a smaller form factor could be what we are thinking of as 'tablet'

Anyway, I will awake to the sounds of credit cards number being entered into computers all over the world...

I Have Absolutely No Clue What Apple Will Announce Today....

...but whatever it is, I hope it gives my AAPL stock a good boost!

Not a chance in hell my friend! 2ghz? its a Mac mini at the end of the day - entry level despite possible media hub capabilities. I'd say 1.67ghz Core Duo - tops. Due to the possible inclusion of a full sized HDD the memory is a distinct possibility. X1600? Nope - Fine for its big brother but not for the mini. More like a X1300. And that'll top out at 128MB.
The sound atributes sound like they are destined for the pro line only, so I doubt we'll see them. Optical 5.1 out would be possible though. 8x Superdrive? Bloody well hope so!!
DVI & HDMI? Either will do. No need for two ports when an adapter will do.
The biggest no-no will be the tuner though. I've said it before and I'll say it again - Apple is not about to make region specific computers. We need a different tuner to the States, France needs a different tuner to us etc.... far to expensive. And thats before you get into the whole satellite/cable issues...
And all of that in the same case? Yep, sure.... if its the TARDIS or some other space warping design.

Its a nice setup you've proposed though. It'd need a bigger case though, and the cost would be only marginally less than the basic iMac to make it viable though. So I'd say:

Bigger design than existing Mac mini
1.67ghz Core Duo
Up to 2GB DDR2
3.25" HDD
8x Superdrive
Optical Out
DVI or HDMI
X1300 128MB
Front Row 2.0

I'm sure any photo capabillity would be in the guise of an add-on , just like the Apple FM radio attachment.

What Apple said was quite true - it would be difficult to add functionality and then remove it later.

I can't believe Apple would hold a media event to announce a boombox and a mini.

I think we're getting ibooks too!

Me, for one... honestly, I think (if I had a bigger HDD) that I would be paying for LOST. And, if they do movie DLs/Rentals, I seriously hope they bring it 'cross the pond.
