he's right it is NOT a valid word in the english language.. it's just sheer ignorance that has allowed it to go unchecked for so long. It makes no sense from the structure of the word..

Just becuase people use it, doesn't make it correct. Most people educated in the ways of language will shun that "word" because it is a bastardization that makes no sense and was spawned from ignorant peasants.

NOW THEN..

should I go down to the SOHO store?

thanks for the validation. not to make a big deal out of something so silly but it bugs me to see this more and more as time goes on. political correctness and fear of offending, upsetting or putting stress on children has made it acceptable for them to be stupid and get by in life just fine with someone holding their hand. rather than correct someone and teach them what's right parents would rather just invent a new word in the name of not rocking the boat. and i'm not necessarily referring to the person who used the word in this thread to begin with, i was really just poking fun. just a few posts ago i said "dunno". now then, i'm thinking of going down to the SoHo store as well. gonna wait for the announcements first, it's damn cold out there.

I used love the live feeds to Apple Soho but it hasn't happened for years. If you ask them they usually say "ugh?" and carry on ignoring the customers.

Thanks for the mention, but LR sucks because the only way to get coverage is by using their widget. I'm at work using the OTHER OS!! ARGH!!
Do they have a Konflabulator widget?

Most people educated to a level that allows them to understand the etymology of words should recognise that language is not a precise tool and that meaning is dependent on context and the relationship between the user and the recipient. Therefore if a word is used and the recipient understands the meaning of the user then the word is valid and well used.

Edit: An individual's level of education in language can be measured in their ability to converse with others coming from differing etymological environments.

engadget crew

We're here... I'm Ryan Block and it's a beautiful Tuesday morning in Cupertino (after a weekend of rain) and I'm kickin' it live from the Steve Jobs "Fun new products" keynote at Apple Town Hall on the Apple campus. The rest of the Engadget crew is standing by for our pre-game coverage (and our team in China is at the ready to provide some realtime translation); they're not admitting press into the event yet, but I did have to get up and cruise for a minute as MSNBC framed their shot. I'll keep you updated as they start admitting -- this is the page to bookmark and check back on as we get closer to the event, so stay tuned and make sure your F5 key's not broken or anything.

8:39AM PT - Members of the press are starting to arrive. Look, there's Leo Laporte. And the CNet gang. Hope there's not a fight for the good seats.

I hope the new mac mini will come with an hypermemory card from ATI or an turbocache card from nvidia. Something like this:

XFX_Geforce_7300GS_TurboCache_256MB_DDR2_PCI-E_DVI_TV-OUT.jpeg

Up to 256mb over turbocache,
TV-in
HDTV-out
only £50

simply ideal for a media center.

yeah, it must be tough being a "genius". the free classes have taken a nose dive as well. everything cool has been pushed aside to help chicks with broken iPods. :)

If Apple introduces a media center capable mini, or iPod, I don't think the ports will be on the device itself...

Rather, I think it would be introduced along with what I'll call Airport^N (802..11n)

The Airport^N Express would include digital outputs to HDTV Sets and home theater systems.

Take a look at any home theater system and all the ports.. Do you think SJ would *ever* let the backside of a Mac look like that?

But two digital ports - DVI and digital audio (or just one HDMI) out of an Airport^N Express? Nice, clean, slick. Media iPod or mini also very clean, perhaps only a power connection, maybe gigabit ethernet and firewire...

Shrug.

Just my $0.02

Are you just making this up? Are you gonna give us a link? And what is LR anyway??

Re: "irregardless" -- you're right:

I find it interesting how poorly Dictionary.app compares:

irregardless.gif

On this whole issue over this messed up word... I'm personally all for using dem wurds rightly (evil laughter), but "irregardless" at least is in most contexts not as confusing as "inflammable" (which isn't exactly wrong, just confusing) or "invaluable" (which, I would argue is wrong).

Person A: The ominous, pressurized, heavy tank right next to you is inflammable.
Person B: Great, want a cigarette?

Person A (an evangelist): God exists, irregardless of those that say otherwise, because I say so!
Person B (somebody that will be left behind in the Rapture or whatever): ...(well, I'm sure this evangelist must be claiming to see the "light of God" as they like to say, though he may be totally blind to the exact meaning of words, which of course is not a sin - otherwise you can't read any holy texts)...
