Yet more proof, if more were needed, that greed has no boundaries. As the old saying goes......"Much wants more".
If Apple is forced to always include a charger in the box, do you think there will be no impact on the price and/or features of these phones? Purchasers of these devices will end up paying. This way they have several choices: they can use the chargers they have, buy a new one from a third party, or buy one from Apple. I prefer the much faster 29 watt chargers, and I do not want to extra or give up features for something I will never use.

It is like those people who want the airlines to be forced to include a checked bag with every ticket. Most travelers do not check a bag. If airlines are forced to do this, those who check bags are subsidized by those who are not. This is even worse, as those of us who do not want these extra chargers get punished twice: We have to pay extra for (or give up features on) our devices and we have to dispose of these useless chargers.

Good. It is literally ridiculous to sell a (new) unused item without what you will need to operate it.
Most DSLR and mirrorless cameras not only come without lenses, but come without media. Should the government mandate that they be included? Most printers do not come with cables (or papers).
Apple acting like they can just slap a “AA batteries not included” on $1200 phones is outrageous, the level of greed has not been properly called out, IMO.
If they include this, do you not think they will charge for it? This is thing I just cannot understand in this argument. What makes you think that purchasers will not end up paying for this change, whether they want the new charger or now?
Forget the environment garbage argument - that doesn’t even make sense.
How does it not make sense? I have a drawer filled with useless 5 watt chargers. Apple paid for them to be manufactured, transported, generating more waste when they are made and emissions while they are transported, just to be turned into crap in a landfill.

As long as it is clear up front that it is not included, why do you see it as a problem?

That is my opinion yes, thanks for rephrasing it.
So you want to be forced to pay Apple more for something that you may or may not need? Ok.
I’d expect them to re-add the USB-C charger brick and keep it in the box for at least a few years so that USB-C bricks reach ubiquity.
The fast chargers are not needed, and if Apple is forced to include a charger, why are you convinced that they will include an 18 watt one, and not the USB-A 5 watt one (or a USB C 5 watt one)?
Not cut them one year after introducing them like everybody buys a new phone every year.
Did you purchase an iPhone 11 Pro last year? Did you purchase an iPhone 12 this year?

I went and bought a Microwave this morning from Home Depot. It came with a power cord and a way to power it. The same can't be said for the iPhone 12 Pro I bought at Verizon last week. A device that requires something to power it should be required to come with a power cord/charger.
What about a Kindle? That comes without a charging brick. What about some wireless headphones? None of them comes with a charging brick. There is no law even in Brazil that states that you must have a charging brick in the box so this lawsuit is moot.

Once again, this is great news. I’m glad some countries are at least realizing what a dumb move this is fuelled entirely by financial motivation and nothing to do with environmental impact.

They changed the charger the same time they got rid of it from the box. Tell me more about how we’re supposed to use our existing USBC bricks that we got with our iPhone….?

They sell charger bricks separately in a ton of packaging and at exorbitant prices and they just got called out for it.

Bravo, next country now please.

Meh... I've had a 30watt Apple fast charger that takes USB-C since the iPhone X.

When I bought a Kindle (in fact, I have owned 2 kindles, both without charging bricks), it came without a charging brick. When I bought Bose QC35's, they came without a charging brick. When I bought apple watch, it came without a charging brick. Somehow people are not outraged about that. I have owned 3 iPhones in like 8 year time span and I still have all 3 charging bricks and 3 useless earphones that came bundled. Where do you think those 3 earphones will go? Vanish? There are people who buy new phones yearly, they could supply 2 families with earphones and charging bricks by now. Not everyone is like that, but most people certainly have enough charging bricks home already. Could Apple handled it differently and started shipping USB-C charging bricks couple years sooner? Sure! But let's not act like they did something unimaginable.

I can't wait til EU starts fining Apple for not including a USB-C interface for charging.

Apple must be forced to do the right thing for consumers.

I applaud less unnecessary hardware for a lower price. Chargers last longer than phones, so it makes simple sense to keep using an old one.

I have a lot of old chargers around from laptops, iPads, and iPhones. Of course, the old ones with permanent (often worn) cables can't be used, but the newer ones just need the right cable.

May have already been mentioned but i presume the same folk will be following up on a fine for Samsung who are also no longer providing a charger or headphones in the box with their latest phones.

To bad we all don’t have a usb c adapter and pretty sure most of us don’t. Super cheap on apples part not to mention the headphones abs test I have AirPods already but on long trips I don’t use em I used the corded ones

Says who? You? Because everyone who bought an iPhone 12 was an iPhone user before? That’s an arrogant assumption to make. So if you’re a new Apple user and buy an iPhone 12, now what?

In that case you are an android user so you'll likely already have a USB-C charger, then you can use the included USB-C cable.

To be fair it's a valid reason… for existing iPhone users. The execution is poor, but the reason for many of their customers makes sense.

Why do I need *another* cable & power adapter when I just want a newer iPhone? That's a waste of resources. What they need to do, as many suggested, ask people if they want one included.

I'm sure they'd like to avoid 2 SKUs for each iPhone to have a charger or not, but they kinda have to it seems with individual countries fighting back about this move by them.

It's telling Android competitors are doing the same. From an environmental impact, doing things like they were before was woefully environmentally irresponsible; same goes for any product that upgrades yearly.

Whether that's GPUs & etc.

Whats wrong with your previous charging bricks and cables? I use mine from iPhone 4s and it still works great, I have additional bricks from my previous iPhone 5s and current iPhone 8. You could argue that you want fast charging and that's a decent argument, but I believe that most people do not really care about fast charging either.

Do you not have a Lightning cable and charger that works with your phone? Apple provides the USB-C to Lightning cable because most people do not yet have that cable, but many devices (including Apple’s computers and laptops) have USB-C ports and power adapters.

Again I ask the question when you say it is cheap on Apple’s part, do you not think if they include them they will charge you for them? Why is it that people seem to think that Apple will just lower their margin and provide something “for free”? Their margins have been remarkably consistent over the years. If they include headphones you are paying for them. If they include a charging brick, you are paying for it. I have drawers of old wired EarPods. Why would I want to pay more for something that I never use?

Why no one really cares about Kindles and headphones coming without charging bricks? Why is this such a huge issue when Apple does it? Apple has done a lot of stupid **** over the years, but this is one that I believe is not just about the money.

I can obviously afford 20 dollars, but that doesn’t mean I still don’t look for a good value for my money. Way I see it, Apple made a decision to remove hardware from the box and decided to market it as an environmental decision, and I’m the one who paid for it.
What makes it so hard for you to see that Apple’s margins have been remarkably consistent for years, so if Apple includes a charger, you pay for it?

Nothing is included ”for free”, everyone pays either because they raise the price or they cut a feature they would have included to keep the price the same.

packaging becomes smaller = cheaper
more fit in shipping pallet = cheaper
do not have to provide them with phone = cheaper
will not recycle their own adapter/cables = not great for environment
not producing as many adapters = slight positive environmental impact

sounds alot like a calculate moved to me. another reason to be asked which cable your using when you issues arise with your phone. they will gladly recycle phones with precious metals in them but draw the line at the the worthless adapters....you know...for the environment.

calculated move , about money.
