What I'm trying to understand is Apple keeps saying that reaching out to touch a laptop display, "doesn't feel natural", the "basic 'L' shape isn't going away", "mouse input is a better experience" blah blah. But yet they're advertising the iPad Pro with keyboard as a laptop replacement with touch as your only way to navigate the OS? Seems like a contradiction.

Not at all the iPad pro with the keyboard is a compromise between two devices and it shows.
"bold" and "courage" are the two new phrases to describe not having much RAM?

Sigh, to include more they would of had to use desktop class RAM. Then people would be be complaining half their battery life was gone. Can you try to keep up?

Trust me there will be a massive drop off in the next month. This line is currently dead to me until things change, when we get proper dGPU, bigger storage, new cpus and a huge price drop.

Looks like you will be buying used

This standard port was introduced way way before 1994, and you use it every day without even thinking about it because it is a universal standard (at least in the US). You can plug in your Mac at the airport, at the library, at Starbucks, at the gym, at home and a billion (yes billion) other US locations without any adapters. Every electrical item that needs this amperage and voltage is compatible and plugs right in. Imagine if every company making electrical appliances wanted to push their own proprietary standard or keep changing the standard ever few years......

I agree that the new ports will be better someday (its a new standard!!) but compatibility out of the box is nice too. Would it have been really THAT HARD for Apple to continue making something that extends compatiblility with a legacy of 100 million computer accessories still in use?

What's so great about that?

This one's the standard in the UK, and it'll boil your tea twice as fast!

And seriously, if you really need it, this is not complicated:

So why come on this forum, I think people are coming here to bitch, I bet a load of the whiners here will end up buying one, why else are you here, to talk about microsoft? Who no matter how beautiful they make their hardware their software is lousy and they have dropped Microsoft band after 2 generations, I might be in the minority of a "pro' user who loves apple products including Apple Watch, iPad Pro and Macs and have no issues with where Apple are taking their products, people whining about 30 dollars leads, adapters etc shouldn't be buying macs.

Hi Guys, i think we all trying to make a point here is that originally the difference between the Macbook and the Macbook Pro were that the Pro edition was for the people that do heavy stuff on the go like photography video render etc, but i think they loose focus on that, taking away good technology like the magsafe which in my case with my kids and dogs was something very useful, the apps are getting better but demanding more RAM consumption and only 16GB of RAM is not enough, if apple could give the option for more that would be great, but not having that option is just sad, that they don't specify that not all thunderbolt ports are in full speed is not ok, and using a processor from last year instead of the last 7th generation Core i, is something that i don't understand why, they are more powerful and less energy consumption.

The main product as i see are the iPhones, new technology inside of them every year, not Macs anymore, why do you you left your Mac Pros un-updated since 2013?

People will always complain. There isn't a one thing on this world that pleases everyone. Just like it is with new macbook pro. It is not for everyone. I think it looks great. Who cares about light up logo? Really? As far as the ports, I agree with some complaints but its not as serious as everyone makes it. Most of the stuff is on cloud, and if you do need usb port then get adapter. Would of been nice if they left just one, but just buy usb c flash drive or adapter for other things. Its plenty powerful for many users. They will sell whole bunch of them. For people that whine, go buy a plastic windows laptop, or one thats 10lbs.

That's not what I'd call a wide-ranging interview at all. They didn't push him on anything.

right?

how could sheeps push those sheeps in wolve's clothing though?

we have to remember that these are pretending to be "interviews" they're just paid advertisement and PR for the company - duh.

why? he is one of the last remaining "old guard" i actually have faith in. he's marketing, and does marketing well. he is not responsible for the tech/design debacle happening at apple...

As Old Guard, that's simply more the reason for him to start throwing chairs around, yelling that they're only giving him stale old dog food to sell....

No. Its Apple's choice to stick with LPDDR3 that made this a 16GB limit a reality. They very well could have used DDR4 with the very same CPUs and even gone up to 64GB of RAM.
Which would have in turn resulted in shorter battery life for all users, whether they needed that 32 of ram or not.

I am with Apple on this one.

all the people you see saying "MacBooks are great" have some agenda and profit one way or another when Apple keeps selling products

bloggers, app developers, accessory makers etc. depends on Apple to make a living so they don't want to kill the cow, no matter how bad Apple's products are

When has Apple ever used anything other than the low-power version of RAM that's specifically meant for portables? Using desktop RAM in a laptop wasn't really an option for them.

Its not desktop RAM. The whole DDR3/LPDDR3/DDR4 thing can be confusing, but there absolutely is DDR4 for laptops. We don't need LPDDR4 for the MacBook Pro.

What most people dont understand is: The "Pro" world is not all Photographers and Video-Editors that need 64gb ram machines. I work in advertising, we are 160+ people, everyone in here is using either a mbp or a imac. We got art directors, content developers, copywriters, software developers and everything else you need for a ad-agency to run. These are professionals too, you know?

My guess is they are still putting the final touches on a Mac Pro redesign,...

The "Space Ship" is more likely to be completed before a new Mac Pro, I'm afraid ... although I'd love to be wrong, for not only am I long overdue to replace our cMP's, but I'd like to watch Phil have to eat crow on his "Can't Innvoate!" 2013 speech.

... plus waiting for a touchbar-enabled wireless keyboard to be ready before unveiling the iMac. Not sure how wise it is to delay your entire product line over one accessory, but that's the way Apple rolls.

Eh, not really. From an Engineering R&D program, developing a stand-alone touchbar keyboard is significantly cheaper & faster than baking it into an entirely new laptop design.

As such, I'd bet the ranch that the keyboard's already been developed.

Or maybe they genuinely like it, flaws and all.

But I suppose it's easier to simply criticise something you can't accept than try to understand it.

I am a teacher. I don't hold any Apple stock. I won't make a single cent regardless of how many MacBooks and accessories get sold. I don't run a ad-supported blog. So tell me, what's in it for me?

Could all audio professionals using the 3mm headphone jack as their input/output please raise their hands.

Anyone?

Anyone?

Bueller?

Now could all professional photographers using the SD card slot raise their hands.

I see...basically all of you then.

Apple's justifications for their decisions are making them look very out of touch.

Yep, I have a 2016 12" MacBook (I also had the 2015 model also and sold it.) and I really really like the new MacBook Pro. I might consider selling the MacBook and get the new Pro after I have had a chance to try one in the Apple store. I think the Touch Bar looks like a great idea and a great way to use touch features without getting my screen covered in grease/fingerprints. The keyboard on the MacBook is great so a slightly updated version would be nice. I already have a couple dongles for the few times I need wired ethernet or to plug in a USB-A device. And it doesn't bother me in the slightest to carry them in my laptop bag.

So, that is my agenda. I want basic touch without messing up my screen and an extra port or two would be nice every now and then. And the cost doesn't really bother me. I paid $1600 for my BTO MacBook so $1800 doesn't seem that bad or the upgrade in power, size, and Touch Bar. Apple is expensive, always has been. Not a surprise that this one costs more. So dammit where is my paid PR money?!

I wish Phil had said, "Do you even PRO, bro?" and left it at that. It would have been an equally flippant response.

Well lets just build computers for the lowest common denominator in all facets them, shall we?

Lesser of two evils compared to the alternative, which is to punish all consumers needlessly with poorer battery life whether they deserve it or not.

It's not about building to the lowest common denominator but about recognising that the needs of a vocal few do not get to dictate design decisions on a product with a much wider reach.

The problem is that the marginal battery difference is likely tiny and Schiller is pulling your chain. I'd bet one click down in screen brightness would save you more battery power than LPDDR3 vs DDR4 would have.

Especially if you go down to the brightness you need to get accurate color representation (roughly halfway on the current models - probably 1/3 the way on the new ones).

look at the Macbook Air for $999. You can do EVERYTHING on it that you can do on the $4000 Macbook Pro and actually with the Macbook Air you additionally have:

- Magsafe
- SD card slot
- 2 x USB 3 port
- Thunderbolt port
- 12 hour battery

so for someone who has a lot of money, dropping $2,500 - $3,500 on a Macbook Pro is great, why not !

for someone else who has to count every dollar at the end of each month, every feature is considered and though through over and over again

if you look at the Air for $999 and the new macbook pro for $1500 - $2,500 - $3,500 and up,
the Air wins hands down in price / features / usability
