Yep, I have a 2016 12" MacBook (I also had the 2015 model also and sold it.) and I really really like the new MacBook Pro. I might consider selling the MacBook and get the new Pro after I have had a chance to try one in the Apple store. I think the Touch Bar looks like a great idea and a great way to use touch features without getting my screen covered in grease/fingerprints. The keyboard on the MacBook is great so a slightly updated version would be nice. I already have a couple dongles for the few times I need wired ethernet or to plug in a USB-A device. And it doesn't bother me in the slightest to carry them in my laptop bag.

So, that is my agenda. I want basic touch without messing up my screen and an extra port or two would be nice every now and then. And the cost doesn't really bother me. I paid $1600 for my BTO MacBook so $1800 doesn't seem that bad or the upgrade in power, size, and Touch Bar. Apple is expensive, always has been. Not a surprise that this one costs more. So dammit where is my paid PR money?!

Do it! I love mine. Everything is very refined on it. The updated keyboard is nice too.

all the people you see saying "MacBooks are great" have some agenda and profit one way or another when Apple keeps selling products

bloggers, app developers, accessory makers etc. depends on Apple to make a living so they don't want to kill the cow, no matter how bad Apple's products are

Certainly not all of them. I like Apple, and so far, they've never sent me any money.

On the other hand, it's fairly likely that there are plenty of paid trolls on here working for Apple's competitors, diligently talking down every new product, update or announcement that that comes out of Cupertino.

Of course they have. There are more Mac users now than ever. There are more people on the planet now than ever. That's why every iPhone and every new product breaks the sales records. Simple math, but definitely not a telling statistic.

Is that why Compaq are doing so well today?

And the macbook "sold out"... Ipad pro "strong demand"... Apple watch "great start".... And in the end they all tanked. Hell the iphone SE was a hit also - sold out at the apple store.

I've said it before and will say it again, I think they actually did a pretty great job on it with my biggest qualm being that they didn't make a 15" version without touchbar. Kind of lame to leave that out of the line.

Sounds more like damage control. Yes, these laptops have been so popular, but we're not gonna reveal the numbers. He might as well say whatever at this point. I'm pretty sure it's the opposite in reality. I find it hard to believe that at this price point these machine can be widely popular.
Since when have expensive things not been popular? Why do you think people pay more for some products than for others — popularity!

I'd say the number of people is very small who would spend the same or more as a 13" with a touchbar in order to get a 15" model without the touchbar. That would be kind of like someone spending as much or more as the sticker for a fully tricked out Honda only to get a stripped-down Acura. Somebody'd buy one, but that wouldn't make up for the cost of creating it as an option.

so according to you, poor people don't deserve using Apple laptops - what a good person you are!

Not how I read the posters comment at all. She or he is saying it may not be the best way to spend one's limited resources. There are less expensive alternatives to a brand new MBP. I'd love a BMW 6 convertible - but I'd be a fool to buy one based on my savings goal. Also no one "deserves" any luxury product. Its why they are luxury and not necessities.

I also have a MacBook 12" and thinking about changing to the new MBP.
Question, did you purchase it online or in the store? Because I´ll be flying to the US, and I won't be able to purchase it online due to availability (4 -5 weeks). Anyone know if you can pick it up at the Apple Retail Store?

Thanks in advance

yeah but the new MacBook Pro is no longer a 6 Series Convertible, maybe an Infiniti Q60 :D

Wait a minute. IF people are complaining about how Apple conduct their business, why are people still ordering online?

Yes.
I picked mine up in store at Apple Santa Monica, Los Angeles. They had plenty in stock. Some other locations such as Manhattan Beach did not. Most stores now have the non touchbar model now on display. By that time, you will be good around the country, I'd say. You can go to the specific store in question to check in store pickup availability as well.

But the new MacBook Pro isn't luxury quality... that's the backbone of the complaints. It's average at luxury prices.

In a market now full of luxury at bargain prices. Why would I buy an objectively worse product that's twice the price?

I've spent well into the mid-5 figures on Apple hardware over the years... when they were best in class. They're now pretty mediocre at twice the price.... they're literally getting worse - compared to the market - while getting more expensive.

Thanks for the info. I´ll be flying to NY in 2 weeks and stay for one week. Hopefully I´ll be able to purchase one with the Touch Bar.

Thanks once again...!!!

if someone has lots of money, nothing matters

If someone has limited resources, buying a macbook air for $999 is great since it can do everything and more the new $3,500 macbook pro can

personally even FREE I would not want the new macbook pro since I PREFER the current MacBook Air I own !
you are trying to convince yourself that the air is better than the pro, because you cant afford it. you know, there are people who are actual professionals and they get their hardware a) from their employer or b) they are freelancers/own company. in both cases a 3k macbook pays for itself after a month max.

This.

Coming from an Air to the new pro without touchbar, it is not even a quesiton. The Air is AWFUL in comparison. Once you see the new screen, you can't unsee it. In a good way. Speakers, design, screen, keyboard, everything. Just stunning.
