Yep. I'm seriously looking at those machines, especially the Blade Pro 17":

Black unibody aluminium, .88" thick (thinner than my current 17" MBP)
2 PCIe SSDs (up to 2TB combined in RAID 0 !!!)
32GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 discrete graphics (8GB!!)
Every port currently in wide use (ZERO dongles required, except maybe VGA)
-SDXC
-TB3/USB-c
-3 USB3
-Gbit Ethernet
-HDMI
-Headphone jack (bi-directional)
Oh, yeah, and a 17.3", 4K Touchscreen

It's the cMBP I wish Apple had built, but NEVER will.

It's expensive, but if I'm going to pay a lot, then I might as well get that beautiful beast. I think it's a better value than the seriously overpriced MBP15.

Thank God that the competition is thinking of me (and those like me).

Sounds nice....

Can it be Hackintosh'ed? :D

Wait - isn't the whole point of a laptop that it's portable? Carrying that extra box around just so I can download photos from an SD card in the field is hardly ideal. Plus, it's $150... plus tax. So we get a laptop without the ports we need, Apple increases their prices, AND we need to spend another $150 to lug around another box when Apple could have included these ports if they weren't so focused on making their tools pretty instead of functional? Not convinced.

Well that's a little extremist. Clearly if you were taking the laptop "in the field" you would bring along a single USB-C to SD card adapter. Looks like you can get them for under $10. I think the point of the "docking station" is that you can dock your machine when you're at your desk at home, not to lug the thing around with you wherever you go. And I'm sure you know that, too.

Not a fair comparison at all. What you see here is adding functionality to a device and software completely around touch.

Taking a device and software that's designed completely around keyboard and mouse input and then adding touch to it is completely different.

It's also confusing from a UI design perspective. If you're on an iPad, I know your input is going to be your fat greasey fingers so I need to adapt the interface. If the input could be your fat greasey fingers OR your high precision mouse....what do I do? Probably design for your fingers and have others suffer a reduced experience.

No, no, no.

Based on the (Apple-initiated) argument that "lifting your hands off the keyboard to touch a screen is unnatural", it is THE most valid of arguments. You're just parroting their marketing garbage and missing the point:

Apple is contradicting itself.

Whether or not the Mac OS is not optimized for touch is another argument entirely.

I believe the reason Apple has not done a touchscreen Mac is not because of "greasy fngers" or "unnatural hand position" bull-s.

It's because they'd rather sell you 2 devices instead of one for the same price (like Windows convertibles).

I venture to say it would take (relatively) very little effort for Apple to build a convertible laptop that runs macOS when in L-shape and runs iOS in tablet form.

The only OS integration required would be on the filesystem access, etc.

So it's not that it's impossible, it's that Apple refuses to.

It's a philosophical disagreement (the whole "combining a refrigerator and toaster" argument) with the concept.

I think this'll bite them in the long-term. The success of convertibles in the PC landscape attests to the majority of computer users' (not Mac users, mind you) expectations.

So much for consumers sending Apple a message, I guess the rank and file are eating this **** up.

I think the 2012 MBP will be my last mac, they couldn't even keep the glowing logo in this soulless garbage they are producing now.

And the BS about why they chose not to include touch surface in the MBP...the L shape, doesn't make sense....lol. What a bunch of bull. Have they forgotten about the ipad Pro with the keyboard? Seems to not be too much of an ergonomic problem and i have gotten used to it, as well as every child these days....when they come to a laptop, they insticitively try to swipe the screen....
Don't think kids are the target market with MacBook Pro's.

What most people dont understand is: The "Pro" world is not all Photographers and Video-Editors that need 64gb ram machines. I work in advertising, we are 160+ people, everyone in here is using either a mbp or a imac. We got art directors, content developers, copywriters, software developers and everything else you need for a ad-agency to run. These are professionals too, you know?
You stole my words!

Not to mention it is another bunch of things to keep track of. If you have an important job and want to grab your laptop, better make sure you have all the stupid dongles as well.

And guess what? I have needed VGA and DVI adapters for a long time now. I STILL need them for old projectors and monitors. I didn't stomp my feet and whine all day long when those ports were removed. Life is too damn short to freak out like people are doing here.

It is not about freaking out, it is about being unhappy with the direction of things. I don't think it would have killed Apple to have kept the SD card slot and one USB3 port to ease the transition. For a company about total integration you need a dongle for just about everything right now, and that simply is inconvenient. But I mean we got touchbar right, mind blowing innovation right there.

I have an older Razer Blade laptop. Very well made and solid machine.

Although this might cause a riot... running a finger over the seams, seals, and screws of my neighbour's Razer Stealth... the fit and finish seems better than my 2015 MBP or 2013 Air...

I hear the anodised coating can chip though, if whacked.

For all these years I haven't seen any thread agree on the same things for this amount of time. Look at it we are page 37 and still talking about the same subjects. If I was working at Apple, I would definitely be worried.

It is the best line up we have ever had™

We are very Excited™

Great Product in the pipeline™

Magic™

Apple has recieved more online order for "insert any Apple product here" than any previews generation™

It is Twice as fast as the previews generation™

This is our best "insert any Apple product here"™

We cannot wait to see what you / developers can do with it"™ (aka we don't know what to use it for please let us know).

EDIT:
You can make the 2017 Keynote with those words...

We are very Excited, insert filler here, we have Great Product in the pipeline, and they are Magic,we are very Excited Apple has recieved more online order for "insert any Apple product here" than any previews generation™but today we announce the new insert any Apple product here" , It is twice as fast as the previews generation and this is our best "insert any Apple product here" ,We cannot wait to see what you / developers can do with it" we are very Excited.

And other 90 minutes of filler (aka how cool we are :D)
[doublepost=1478194737][/doublepost]As 'filler' don't forget to have a screeching woman with hair like a poodle dog screeching and mumbling 'a song' while others prance about nearly nude in suggestive positions. Hey, that's the winning ticket!!

I am not surprised at all. It is pent up demand. Similar to what happened with the iPhone 6+. Don't forget that their MB"P" iSales had been in the iToilet for a while. I don't see this as a net win for Tim Cook(ed). This is a huge opportunity for other PC makers by simply creating a laptop and computers that outperform Apple and making sure they publicize the heck out of it. It is probably time to invest in M$ again.

The 13" rMBP:
Touch Bar and Touch ID
2.9GHz Processor
256GB Storage
$1799

I have an early 2015 rMBP that is a little over a year old with the same storage and memory. Since resale values are so low right now and the fact that I don't need it means I will be waiting...unless Best Buy has some killer Black Friday deal...

Any idea what mine is worth? It's in great condition and has AppleCare. It's never had any problems and has never been in for repair.

Sure, that's what I'd assume. But I'm just trying to understand what the best solution is to replace the now nonexistent ports and that was the product suggested to me.

So now, as you're suggesting, I should have a separate card reader too? Ok, it's not much money, but I already have one with the old USB connection and now I would need to buy a new one. It's more money, more stuff, when if Apple had just left an SD card and old USB port (alongside the USB-C), users could have purchased peripherals with USB-C when their old ones broke. Instead, we're expected to either buy new everything or buy a bunch of adapters/dongles.

It just seems to me a very, "**** you, we're doing what we want." attitude from Apple, and I can't see how that encourages customer loyalty.

anyone who is disappointed with the new macbook is actually disappointed in the price. this is a luxury product, save your pennies or be happy with a costco laptop for a fraction of the price.

who's forcing you? #firstworldproblems #entitlement

Surely it's broken down my model at least in the annual share report?

Not that I recall. They're under no obligation to do that. They don't even have to release unit sales info. Samsung, for example, doesn't release unit sales numbers for their mobile phones and Amazon doesn't report the number of Prime members.

Because of that, I wouldn't be surprised if those market share reports from the likes of IDC/ Gartner/ strategy analytics, etc. are way off the mark.

hey bud, stop thinking about yourself. should apple have included the CF slot and microSD slot I use frequently? NO.

look at the big picture, go eat some ice cream, and calm down.

And it wouldn't have killed Apple to keep VGA and DVI around. I need to use that FAR FAR FAR more than I need to use an SD card (never). Single use ports need to go away FAST. Now I need to get new adapters for USB-C because I had adapters from single-use ports instead. USB-C is universal. You can get an adapter if you need to use and SD card. Having these single-use ports are not a good thing anymore.
