Face ID isn’t impressive? I never thought there would be a time when Projecting over 30,000 invisible dots onto your face using facial 3D mapping of a depth map of your face would unlock your iPhone. That alone is impressive to me, perhaps not to others.
It’s not impressive to those who don’t use it I guess.

It’s very good for me and works pretty much flawlessly

Lol it's funny how some fanboys are happy about it (if it's true)..it only means Apple has less competition and can rip you all off more..
But I doubt they can,Samsung has so much technological and finantial potdntial and can woop Appke's ass again,by impkementing even better thechnology and more, forcing Apple to try harder.

By now, that approximates the number of attempts to implement “Messages in the cloud”
(soon to be revamped as: “iMessage stickers in the cloud” ;))

In the article's photo, the phone is spraying a light mist of some substance onto the lady, and she's clearly soaked in it. What is this substance? Just water?

Doesn't mean much when it fails so much.

There's a reason why Microsoft dumped Kinect which is what Face ID is. It's good enough for gimmicks like tracking your face to poop Animoji but not precise enough for security. It'll end up forgotten like 3D touch gimmick which just takes away space inside the phone for a bigger battery, symmetrical display, etc.

Microsoft dropped it because it kind of sucks for gaming. That’s it. They’re pushing facial recognition on laptops, though.

I won't consider upgrading to an iPhone with Face ID until it becomes as quick and reliable as second gen Touch ID. Sure, I can't use Touch ID when my fingers are wet, but I understand why it won't work in that instance and I dry my hands. I've read and heard far too many complaints about Face ID not working consistently in various types of lighting and Face ID being generally slower to unlock the device than second gen Touch ID is. They'll improve Face ID, I'm quite certain; but it's not good enough for me to ditch a device with Touch ID yet.

Surprised it took you until Page 5 to post this again.

I’m curious. You’ve only had this debunked and explained to you dozens of times in the past, yet you still continue to repost this garbage over and over. One has to wonder why....

I hate the photo of the women leaning out of the swimming pool.
My iPhone X doesnt unlock when i am at the same angle she is at.

After 6 months i find FaceID amazing tech, but it is slower and less convenient for me than TouchID.
I rgualrly use my device on my desk or on the sofa and I have to input my code everytime as FaceID wont work at even the slightest obtuse angles

[doublepost=1521544076][/doublepost]Good, 'cause that fingerprint recognition never really worked anyways. Don't even get me started on Siri
Works perfect for me. And anyone who uses iPhone. Ssht don’t get started on Siri. I speak Dutch and that’s even worse with Siri. And the irritating ‘Hey’ you have to say. “Hey Siri, goodnight” which is a command to turn off tv, soundbar and all the lights. Siri’s response “ Siri doesn’t sleep”.

Not surprising, they'll trail behind like always and make a crappy knock off of the feature.

More like they will put money into R&D while Apple thinks its lead is safe and then overtake Apple when Apple moves on to their next pointless pet project.

No it’s not. Having used my X (and my wife/kids with theirs) for some time now I’d never go back to TouchID. FaceID is just so seamless in so many scenarios.

Each system has their advantages, but overall FaceID is superior. By the time others incorporate their first gen under-display readers or FaceID clones Apple will be on their second generation version of FaceID and never looking back.

It's alright, you paid pretty penny for this phone, so, you better like it. ;)

I can unlock with Touch ID my iPhone without having to look precisely into the screen, horizontal, vertical, getting it out of my pocket, etc. TouchID is faster than FaceID because the flexibility it gives you on how to use it. This is not even a discussion, it's a fact. Also, Apple going to put 2 FaceID on the upcoming iPads so you can unlock horizontal?

FaceID on the MacBook or iMac would be quite alright though, even very convenient. The screen is already facing you at square almost all the time anyway.

So, right technology on the wrong device. When FaceID can work at any orientation and gets placed behind the screen (no pedestrian notch), I may consider it. In the meantime, nice try :apple:, keep trying.

My thoughts exactly. Touch ID under the screen is a better solution for phones. Works in horizontal and vertical. If it can't be placed under the screen because technology is not there yet, put the TouchID on a side unlock button, like some Androids have it. Not so hard.

Face recognition would be alright on iMacs or MacBooks however. Ridiculous habit to slim things down, just because, make it hard to place it there though.

Quite funny actually. Face ID is the right solution for the wrong problem.
Gues you’ve never heard of Vivo. Who has touch id under the screen. Now get from under your rock.

I was referring to iPhones, for I still have a stubborn attachment to Apple phones, for now. I'm very well aware of this Concept android phone, which actually looks remarkably interesting.

EDIT: here's the link for those unaware: https://www.engadget.com/2018/02/26/vivo-apex-fullview-concept-phone-hands-on/

If I recall correctly, LinusTechtips, Dave Lee, Marques or Lu made videos about it.

Apple has pissed away several spaces where it led the market; iCloud, iTunes, and Siri come to mind first. Apple does not have any stick-to-it'ness. So keeping the lead in Face ID just depends on what Cook thinks is the next big thing. Right now AR and Face ID seem to be kindred technologies. But next year they could just as well get dropped like hot potatoes.

Apple strategy is the "toss it against the wall and see what sticks" strategy. But Apple's walls are pretty slimy these days and not much is sticking, outside of the iPhone, which is half a decade old.

Why do we NEED that solution? How hard is it to just look straight into your iPhone? Are we that lazy?

Yes, and shamelessly so. Can't apple be arsed to do a better job? Why I'm paying a premium for?

Don’t need to keep trying, FaceID is superior. From 4 people in my family who have used both extensively.

Boy, I'd love to "blow" it like Apple at $52B in net income, the most profitable company in the world, and the largest market cap in history.

BTW, Apple still trades at 1/2 the P/E of MSFT and 1/20 of AMZN.

Once Wallstreet understands Apple is not a hardware company, the multiple will expand to 25 and you'll see a $300 stock and $1.75T-$2T valuation.

Yes, tough times at Apple.
This thread has nothing to do with neither their MV nor PE ratio. They're making money hand over fist and selling tons of products. But even I, one of their biggest fan boys, is disappointed with SIRI. I want them to have the best AI on the market - and they can - but they currently don't. They had a gigantic head start and own some amazing technologies that haven't yet been integrated with SIRI (workflow, visual IQ...).

Every time?

Have they blown their massive lead in processor designs yet?
Hardware - hardly ever - their hardware department is second to none - software - that's another story. especially AI - SIRI can and should be best in class.

Are you disappointed that Apple cares about privacy? Google sells your data for profit and Facebook apparently does it too.

I was commenting to the ridiculous post that Apple is struggling, slipping, falling off, etc.

Their software is still quite a bit better than Android. More stable, smoother, better apps, etc. Android is just more customizable and offers options, but there are tradeoffs. I owned an Android phone before the X and I'm glad I switched. Soooo much better.
