I am still going to get the Note 7 or Edge S7 and use it along side my 6 plus which still runs great... feel like there is this big swell for the 7, but without a 3.5 jack, it just doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Even though, I had planned to get one..
[doublepost=1473142225][/doublepost]Its not just Samsung v Apple, ever here of the largest phone manufacturer in the world huawei? I got the 1st iPhone, went right back to the BB as it was unusable for business back then. Got the 3G, been on the iPhone since.. good and bad. Going to take a look at Android now, use it along side my iPhone and see how it goes. As I have mentioned in other threads, I take long flights and one port is not acceptable to me as I like to charge and listen at the same time.. In the car, one port is fine.. At the gym, one port is fine but I am not about to reinvest into headphones or use a dongle.. got a new MacBook and am already hating all the dongles to do this and that.

The S7 is a sucess , as an iPhone user, it's a nice phone.

iPhone sales are dropping , it's a fact, not let play spin the facts, that's Tims job ;) . Not cause it's a bad product in any way, it's just damn expansive .

As for the video, nope , I actually have not seen it. I don't buy into crap that is performance benchmarks or bragging rights, cause every Apple computer I have owned , there was a better performing PC, sometimes by a huge margin.

So I kind of have a laugh when people start bragging about the iPhone performing faster....when Apple top desktop is a pierce of crap performance wise .

Using a S7 or iPhone 6S, both perform great. Who cares which one is marginally faster, as the choice is OS, just as is OS X. Even if the S7 was 50% faster, people who like iOS will not switch, same for android fans

Apple sold around 92 million iPhones in the first half of 2016 vs Samsung s7 edge shipping around13 million units and the s7 shipping around 11 million units in the first half of 2016.

92 million iPhones vs 24 million Galaxy s7.

Even if you add the 2.5 million exploding note 7s, that only gives Samsung 26.5 million units.

And to answer your question 92 million consumers care that iPhone is much faster than the Galaxy s7.

There's no spin to iPhone sales. They are exactly where they should be according to historical trends. Except for the two anomalies where sales spiked. Not sure how you could call it spin - it's a simple fact.

Now as to the S7 - well, with Samsung sales plummeting for almost two years it was inevitable they leveled off. It's just that their leveling off happens to start with a rise in sales whereas Apples leveling was a decline following record sales. In both cases sales are stabilizing.

Performance wise they both perform great - when you do basic simple tasks. When you want to do more then the iPhone is superior. Sometimes by a wide margin. Better to buy the device that's future proof because of its performance than the device that will struggle running tomorrows software.

Oh, what does Apple desktop performance have to do with this? I thought we're talking about phones?

Cause the point is, the performance difference is irrelevant to most users. They choose a device based on the OS, be it iOS or Android, as they do with OS X, that's the relevance I was alluding to.

I frankly have not met anyone in the last 12-24 months that has said they need more performance from their smartphone. Most just use it for basic tasks.

Anyway, if you need more performance, congratz, Apple will unveil the iphone 7, and the new Chip will be great for you, most of the population will not notice a speed difference for daily tasks. The biggest problem iphone recently had was 1GB ram.....my iphone 6 plus was the worst phone I have ever owned, constant memory crashes, the 6S is awesome, and given its headphone jack, a much better device than the iphone 7.....

Don't get me wrong, I would not use an Android over my iphone, but I appreciate Tech, and the S7 and note 7 are very nice devices if I wanted to use Android. I actually own a Samsung S6 Iron Man edition, for collection purposes, its probably my favourite phone, but remains in its box.

I see you love your iphones, I think you are in for a treat in a couple of days time. Enjoy, sounds like the new iphone will pack a bunch, and take it to a new level of performance!

lol......92 million care its got an Apple logo on the back. To say their choice is based on performance is ....entertaining. Had the iphone been slower than the S7, there would still be around 92 million iphone users.... most of those users do not even care what processor is inside.

People are not buying Apple products because they have superior outright performance over the competition........

Well if that were true than the majority of iPhone sales would consist of the iPhone SE or the 6, not the 6s.

People are buying what is the newest.

The SE is actually selling very well due to users preference for the form factor.

Very Well is very relative.
The 6s is the lions share of apples iPhone sales.

Doesn't the newest product offer the best performance?
The se features the a9 which is the also found in the 6s.

Well based on that logic, all of apples current products offer the best performance .....even if the desktop and notebook range are ..... Somewhat old ;) except the Mac mini, that was gimped on purpose.

though to say people are buying iPhones based on CPU....nope, it's only one of the features . Just look up the markerting page for 6S. Camera is a much bigger draw card actually.

Not really the same price points. As well, most macs aren't offered with a subsidy.

And no, the a9 soon to be a10 is state of the art in mobile computing, apples macs will get the latest Intel processors this year with kaby lake. The cpu found in the MacBook Pro retina is downright ancient.

Not really an apt comparison.

We weren't talking about cpu, we were talking about performance, the cpu is only part of that equation. One that you brought up. :)

Well CPU / GPU is the definition of performance. I assume you are taking this discussion to mean user experience = performance .....

So to end this now, an iPhone performs better as a complete package, as do macs. Done :) you are right .

Though not convinced MBPs will get the latest Intel offering, expecting apple to pull a Mac mini update....we will see

No.
Once again, cpu/gpu is part of it, nand is another; PCIe and NVMe instead of a UFS or eMMC storage solution, memory; LPDDR4 instead of LPDDR3, touch screen latency, etc.

Again performance isn't just cpu/gpu or ui, it's the complete package in relation to the end user interfacing with the device.

Geez you forgot the software and battery ...if we are going to play pedantic ;)

Lets agree we got difference views on what "performance" means , and that is fine. I accept yours, makes sense.

Have a good day. I think we are done.

I'm afraid your mistaking pedantic with accurate.

I agree that you have a misunderstanding of the word performance, as to only refer to the cpu/gpu.

Ok there.

Thought the chavs were buying Samsung, flashier colors ;).

iPhones through and through ... gold and rose gold ... it's all about fashion and bling, and that's what Apple is marketing these days ... FASHION and BLING.

Pretty sure, right after Wednesday's announcement, the Apple office will hit the Fall fashion show scene ... new iPhones and new Apple Watches.

Well you must know, I don't really know any chavs.

Subsequently Samsung only sold 8 million Samsung s7 edge last quarter, according to strategy analytics. Apple sold more iPhone 6's during the same quarter. That's the iPhone 6, the 6s sold twice as much as the s7 edge.

Why the switch? He can swap out and get a new Note 7 and unless they release something different than the "leaks" no iphone can even compare to note 7. I have had every iPhone since the 3 and again they are so far behind the game and the sales and data prove that

Because my father is an average consumer and all he cares about is occasionally surfing the web, watching Netflix, texting, and phone calls...which all phones (including the HTC Titan Windows Phone he currently is using) can handle. Most average consumers (not the people posting on this site or other phone forums) care about is that is works and is the current "new" thing.

EDIT: Can you show me the sales data showing they are behind the game? Based on my research and even this article posted today (https://www.macrumors.com/2016/09/06/iphone-6s-top-selling-smartphone-ahead-of-iphone-7/) the iPhone is the number one selling device in the world. Sure android as an OS outsell iOS, but there are also a million different android devices released every year and only one iOS device...so the OS adoption numbers should be expected.

This is it exactly ... the average consumer doesn't know or care less about the latest geek bench results ... can I message, can I email, can I do other social media, can I take, send, and receive photos ... that's the extent of it.

And for the record, NO one is doing quantum physics or writing their PhD thesis on a smartphone, not even an iPhone.

I very much doubt this bears ANY relationship to the Note 7 issue whatsoever. A coincidence exploited by poor journalism? More likely to be the case.

Ripple effects from #SpontaneousCombustionGate will be observed for eons.

Who are you kidding, these phones use 100% the same parts! :D

$650-850 a month? I'd say that's still a pretty poor salary, but I see why Apple and other corporations do it because it's good for creating maximum wealth for shareholders.
It's a lot less than someone working at McDonald's in New York would make.

The difference is that the McDonald's worker would starve with his salary unless he lives with the parents, while the worker in China with much lower cost of living will work hard for two years, save all they can, and has enough money to go home to his village as a rich person.

Sales data show the iPhone destroying the Galaxy S and Note 7. I call BS until you can provide a source.
iPhone may be destroying the Galaxy S, but not the Note 7. The Note 7 destroys itself. It doesn't need any help from Apple.
