Every day that the iPhone is not available on Verizon, Verizon loses more and more customers.

AT&T has slowly eaten away at Verizon's market share to the point where it's not really important for Apple to sign them. In fact I wouldn't be surprised to see them pick up T-Mobile instead.

What planet are you living on? Verizon still has more subscribers than AT&T. T-Mobile is 1/3 the size of Verizon. Verizon is still very important.

I'm surprised this wasn't noted more frequently but one sign that the phone is finally losing exclusivity with AT&T is that when iPhone 4 was announced, AT&T allowed most existing users who's contracts were up in the next 6 months to upgrade to the new iPhone without any penalties or higher upgrade fees. This was something they had never done before with the iPhone.

It has been noted, hundreds of times over and over.

And when no Verizon iphone arrives in January, everyone will be on to the Summer Verizon iphone rumor. And once again everyone will say "but these rumors are different. The Wall Street Journal says..." LOL

I look forward to 2012 when the iphone is available on other carriers. I just hope Apple sells the phone unlocked allowing you to choose the carrier you wish, even without contract.

I can't wait to tell you I told you so!

I am still hoping and waiting, I had the iPhone 1, 3g and 3gs on ATT, loved the phone but the service by me was finally unbearable, I was dropping calls everyday on my ride home from work. I finally went back to Verizon and got the HTC INC... the service is great now, havent dropped a call in months but I really miss the iPhone, I hope the Verizon version comes January, It can be y late Christmas present to myself :)

5-6 million cdma iphones won't be enough! mark my words

so many people on verizon wish they could have an iphone, and so many iphone users wish they had verizon.

LOL

Well they've wanted to do that with each rumor cycle.

I understand. and I understand your doubt. So basically we have the boy who called wolf. since the iphone launched, there have been tons of idiots who claim the iphone will be on verizon. Now that the iphone will be on verizon, you don't believe the facts because of all those idiots.

I can't wait. I am just waiting for those in NYC and SF to jump ship from AT&T so I don't have to read their arguments all over the Mac boards anymore!

I am so tired of SF tech blogs whining how bad AT&T is! We all know the grass is greener on the other side .;)

My parents switched to all Verizon a couple years ago (they had phones on both V and A). My aunt switched from Verizon to ATT this year.

The reason for both changes was reception. We all live in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area. Just depends on exactly where you live or use your phone.

More like 6 more months. AT&T 3G coverage is pathetic. As with every holiday when I travel to something other than a large metroplex area, I found myself stuck on Edge again on Christmas.

(I'm exaggerating to express frustration, so don't take the 6 month comment literally)

Sounds like you need more strategically located family members. Shop around. :D

Here's something for you to consider:
The only reason Verizon doesn't have complete dominion over AT&T and their abysmal service is because of the iPhone. Now while that's a poor crutch to lean on, it's been an effective one. AT&T has been stealing away consumers from Verizon for years based solely on the iPhone. Because of this, Verizon (and other phone companies) have had to innovate and try to create something comparable to the iPhone. How many times have "iPhone killers" come out over the years? Most have failed, but those failures provided incentives to innovate further. And with every phone that came out that even remotely challenged the iPhone, Apple was quick go to their drawing board and make their iPhone even better. Fast forward to today and we have Android, an OS (and, consequently, a line of phones) that are offering solid alternatives to iPhones. We no longer seeing "iPhone killers", because iPhone is no longer the standard to which all other phones are compared. Without the iPhone being exclusive to AT&T, we would've never seen the amazing advances in other phones (and even Apple's phone). Bringing the iPhone over to Verizon might increase Apple's profit and might make some Verizon consumers happy, but it's also going to hurt innovation. Competition creates better products, but competition makes it stagnant.

There are Verizon iPhone rumors? wow, I had no idea.

Please dear god let this crap end. I hope Steve Jobs comes on stage at CES and says he'd rather take a rusty screw driver anally rather than make a CDMA iPhone.

I hope steve jobs kisses u in the face.

Now any fanboy will tell u that iPhone should be on tmobile sprint verizon, and AT&T

Any fanboy like myself would tell u this.

Folks,

One week to go before the Verizon CEO will give his opening keynotes!!! Wow, CEO of Verizon will be giving the keynote for the iPhone 4 instead of CEO of Apple! I will jump at the GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE if there is really a Verizon iPhone 4... if not you guys should continue to dream and drooolllllllllllllllll:D

Really ? Why

What planet are you living on? Verizon still has more subscribers than AT&T. T-Mobile is 1/3 the size of Verizon. Verizon is still very important.

Two things:

1. Back in May it was reported that Verizon had 31.1% share of all cellular customers in the US and AT&T had 25.2%.

http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Wireless-Market-Share-By-Device-And-ISP-108292

It has since been reported in several different reports that AT&T has taken market share away from Verizon.

2. Whether or not Apple decides to bring the iPhone to Verizon really doesn't matter. Apple competes with the likes of RIMM, Motorola, Nokia, LG and Samsung. And Apple is destroying all of them. The companies I just mentioned not only have to compete with the iPhone, but with one another and Verizon has already stated that their Android strategy is not helping them compete against the iPhone.

Verizon really needs the iPhone to compete. More than Apple needs Verizon, which is good place for Apple to be.

Would be shocked if this happened mid-cycle in the iPhone 4's projected life. Of course, it may be some desperate attempt to gain the upper hand against Android , which in my opinion, is a battle that Apple Consumer Electronics lost six months ago.

Why do people keep think apple need to "win" the "war" they don't and won't

Good point

Some of us fanboys want apple to have global domination

Then again this is almost turning into an apple ms thing

I would only buy an iPhone if it came to Sprint or T-Mobile, because although Verizon has a superior network (compared to AT&T) their pricing are equally as ridiculous.

Ding ding ding!

Best response so far

So many forget that there are people - Kids and students stretching their funds to pay for their iPhone. Let's face it we all know people with MacBooks and iPods and iPhones who don't make much money but do because they are fanboys likemyself

Apple NEEDS to be on Verizon!!! Android is going to kill ios because apple wasn't on Verizon! If apple was on Verizon in the first place, android would have never been as successful. Now apple will finally hit verizon, but its too late, it will definitely shorten the time it takes for android to defeat ios, but its still too late

The verizon iPhone will happen because macrumors members are always wrong. Seriously do I need to bump the iPhone 4 leak threads? U guys cried

Said the phone was too ugly to be from att.

Oh I laughed.

Not because I'm a fanboy but because u guys aren't understanding what it means to be a true fanboy

An apple fanboy loves all things apple - be it with other device providers

Let's admit it- the reason why people have
issues with iPhone is because of apple and their baseband chip.

Good chance verizon will have network issues too.

Oh it will be on Verizon. In 2012. Not this year.

Yeah, you just made my point. Verizon dominates.

Yes, they have, but not enough since May to make Verizon any less of a dominant player in the wireless market. Your post still makes no sense.

Actually, it does make a difference. As long Apple is not on Verizon, there will always be a large customer base unavailable to Apple. While they have and will continue to take some customers from Verizon, they will never steal all of the potential smartphone customers from Verizon. Verizon would have to close it's doors for that to happen. Market share is important to Apple's stockholders.

Thank you for the "Reality Check". Tough to do in here. :apple:

Apple competitors having to sell 1.5-2.5 phones each to match Apple's profit on 1 iPhone is what this and thousands of stockholders cares about.
