Hey guys, I live in France and sent my iPod Nano: replacement is still pending. Does someone know if this news (that is, 6th gen iPod Nanos being shipped instead of 1st gens) applies to Europe based costumers?? In other words, will I be receiving a sixth gen?

Thanks! :)

Mine has been "replacement pending" since Nov 21st, anyone who returned before then got a 6th Gen replacement?

The rebate page says to stop using the 1-gen iPod for risk of overheating. Though they may be available at several outlets, they may not be safe...

re original article

funny - my local dentist group has had an ad billboard up in front of their building for a couple years touting free ipod nanos to new patients - its the nano version with clickwheel/small screen/candy bar size (whichever gen ipod that is)
i thought it was funny they had that billboard up even when the new style nanos were released awhile back
i guess die hard older gen nano fans can get what they want if they become new dental patients there

Picked one up on ebay last night for $50.

... or this cold be a conspiracy to collect all 1-gen models because they have appreciated in value. ;)

Looks like I will only be sending in my 1GB Nano.

I don't want a new one. I want my old one fixed up.

Damn. I received my replacement box a while back but I reconsidered about replacing my nano because I was using it and frankly, it works perfectly fine. Now that I find out they are replacing with new ones, I want to exchange mine for that but the shipping label has already expired.

Any chance of getting a new replacement box? =/

My car has an ICE iPod hookup allowing me to play music through the speakers and keep the 1st gen iPod recharged. My understanding is that newer iPods/iPhones/iPads have different power requirements. For example, my iPad2 won't charge in my car.
Only the iPad(s) require more juice for charging. All iPods and iPhones should charge just fine with an older iPod car charger. In fact, these new nanos have very low power requirements. My laptop USB port charges my nano 6G is about an hour.

Does anyone know if the new iPods work with legacy connectors?
Will I lose car stereo capability with nano upgrade?
This one is trickier to answer. I guess the right answer would be "it depends". What make/model is your car's head unit. That would be the first place to start looking.

As far as the ability to connect physically, the nano 6G still uses the same 30-pin iPod connector as the nano 1G. So it'll fit. Will it work is another question.

Up to and including first gen iPod touch apple allowed charging over FireWire. My old stereo did that, and stopped charging when I upgraded to iPhone 3G, as they dropped the FireWire pins at that point. It's likely it won't charge the newer iPod if it was designed for 1s gen models.

What does that mean? Nothing, something?

Would prefer my 1st gen but I am ok with getting a new one. Not happy but ok.

In my last car, I had an Alpine head unit that my iPod 5G connected to via 30 pin connector. It would charge and play. When I upgraded to an iPod Nano 4G, I had to buy an adapter (mine was from Scosche) that kept it charged. It would play just fine without the adapter, but wouldn't charge as the original iPod had.

iPod Nano

The earlier Macrumors story said that people were able to see that they were going to get a 6th gen nano even before they arrived by looking up the serial number. Where can I find what the serial number is of the iPod Apple is going to send me? Also, does anyone know the date of when the first person to receive a 6th gen actually registered for the replacement. I registered two iPods, one Nov. 13, & the other Nov. 23. How likely would it be that those dates are late enough to get a 6th gen?

I'm from Luxembourg, mine is pending since a month.

I don't know what I want now. I'll let :apple: chose.

Mine has been pending since 11/24. I just saw this news this morning and will be very excited if I actually get a new gen nano. Thank you Apple!

I just returned my iPod nano today. It was only 2GB so it's going to be interesting to see what they send back my way. I prefer the size and styling of the 1st generation but I wouldn't complain if a new one is sent since it holds more music.

So if I buy a 1st gen nano from craigslist or ebay, I can send that in to apple and receive a current gen model?

Mine hasn't even been collected yet and I filed for replacement on the 13th Nov, so count yourself lucky you've got as far as you have...

Do you guys know if a broken 1st gen will get exchanged?

Mine did not work, and apparently it has been accepted and is awaiting replacement. So I would say yes.

Yes. I traded for my nano a long time ago, and it's currently pending replacement. As long as the serial number on the back is on the recall list, you're good to go.

Why would the serial number matter? Isn't this replacement for all 1st gen nanos?

I don't know what order Apple is fulfilling requests but if it helps anyone, my request was completed on November 16 and I received my repair envelope on yesterday (December 19).

Not too happy. If they are just sending out 6 generation Nano's then why did it take so long?

Six weeks spent looking through warehouses if they could find some first gen iPad Nanos.

I as well wanted my retro cool ipod 1st gen back.

You could have kept it. Of course in the unlikely event that yours is one of those that have heat problems, Apple would be off the hook because they offered you a replacement.

If it's broken, why not just try it?

It's out of warranty. Nobody is going to fix it.

it's not my case, but if someone made it until 2011 with a 1st gen ipod nano, it means that he liked the 1st gen ipod nano.
the 6th gen is a completely different device, at least make people choose between a 6th gen and a refurbished 5th gen!!
(maybe it's just my opinion, not so many would think the same)
