Ok....so now I think its hung on the Step 1 of 2 ......it clearly says do not unplug your apple tv while updating....so what do I do next? Any ideas?

Well I unplugged it after 30 mins of no progression, it came back on with the old u.i, it's downloading the update again......

With the iP4S shooting 1080p, they had to make the AppleTV compatible. I'm hoping ATV gets pulled itno the yearly product update cycle, where they're forced to innovate and progress. Apps anyone? Me, too.

none of which address the fact that it was pretty clear Apple limiting the ATV2 to 720p was more of an excuse to cause people have to upgrade.

A lot of smelled it then and now it just proves it.

1080p 24fps

Just registered so bare with me.

Currently i´m running a Panasonic vt30 with a WDTV. In the WDTV I have the option of choosing my resolution, be it 1080p 24fps or 1080p 60fps and so on.

I´ve always wanted the apple tv gen 2. The only thing stopping me was the missing link of 1080p.

The thing i´m worried about now is, are you able to change what kind of "resolution" the apple tv sends to you TV set?

I love watching fast paced sport and ordinary tv programs in 60fps

But watching a movie that is made in 24 fps in 60fps just messes pup my viewing experience.

Is it possible to watch a 1080p 24fps movie the way it was supposed to be showed with the new Apple tv gen 3?

I´m crossing my fingers it does, because I would love to have one.

Anybody?

are you serious? Did you get an upgrade price for you macbook pro, your ipad, your ipod? It's $99 dollars. Use the other Apple TV for your bedroom or a paper weight

edit: Maybe you were talking about your actual movie downloads, if so than the uploads appear to be free.

It more of another BS software block by Apple. The Apple TV 2 hardware can run it. Just apple choose not to turn it on or connect it.

Do you still need to go to the computers section to access your own movies?

No, you really don't need to since they're in iCloud now.

However, I just found out that some of my movies aren't available in iCloud; the ones that were removed from purchasing and only available for rent. This is kind of an inconvenient setback that makes me less comfortable deleting my files just yet.

I've contacted iTunes support about this. People who paid to purchase their content should be able to download them from iCloud even if its not available for purchase anymore.

Are you sure that its not just movies from the studios who haven't signed up? I believe I read somewhere that HBO has got some studios tied into not supporting such a setup.

Is there anyway to change the size of the menu icons, or delete ones you'll never use? I know for a fact I'll never use NBA, MLB, or NHL and they are taking up valuable screen space.

It's possible. Still sucks though if true. But I think this applies to everything in the iTunes store, such as apps and books as well?

Reconsidering my entertainment hub... in a bad way

Really, this is a disappointing release, for the following reasons:

1. No Hulu. Having cut the cable long ago, and Hulu & Netflix are almost all of my video viewing, with a 70/30 split of Hulu over NetFlix. Sadly, the no Hulu issue, is forcing me to use my Roku for 70% of my viewing.
2. 1080 is nice, but I suspect it will exacurbate my NetFlix viewing woes. As I stutter through most NetFlix movies at 720p, I suspect that will get worse at 1080 - and yes, I do have a big fat broadband pipe, that is hard-wired to my ATV2. If I had to choose between reliable 720, and unreliable 1080, 720 would win every time.
3. No app ecosystem... really, this sucks.

For me, ATV is an Airplay enabler, for my on-premise library. But Roku will now be my online video playback device. It sucks that I now have to use two devices, and that Apple is letting it's download revenues interfere with a chance to be the home-entertainment hub for all content. And yes, I understand Apple's dilemma, and can appreciate that they don't want to mess with a reliable revenue stream. I'm just saying that it sucks, for me.

So, this latest release has me searching for a replacement as a viable entertainment hub that will serve both on-premise and hosted content. And whatever solution I choose will likely impact all of my future purchases (smartphones, PCs, TVs, Audio, etc.). I've been riding the Apple wave for a while, but having to go elsewhere for 70% of my online viewing content is causing me to reconsider.

We in the UK don't get movies on iCloud, full stop. So damn you! And your Apple Store is online already, you yanks get everything, its as if you built the whole damn system...

Anyone spotted where the iCloud menu option is? Really hating this new UI, might roll back.

Also anyone having issues with accessing netflix or the iTunes store via the music icon?

Apple TV - Universal Pictures

I've notice almost all of the movies made by Universal Pictures are showing up as "When purchased, this movie will not be available from iTunes in the Cloud." under the pricing in iTunes 10.6 . Thats not cool i want all my movies to be available.

What happened to Podcasts?

Waitaminute! One of the features I liked about ATV they don't even show at all. Can I still watch Podcasts?

Waiting to see...

About the only real thing that has me interested is just how much of a horsepower improvement the A5 chip will be once the new :apple:TV is jailbroken and I can start playing back other formats on it. The current model does a decent job but has issues at times with the files I try playing (720p MKVs). If the A5 lets me play back most anything that my nettop currently does, it will make the new one with the $99 price tag (minus whatever I get from selling the current one).

Of course, in its current form the :apple:TV still can't outright replace the nettop- I need either a) Flash video playback or b) apps to be able to play back video from the streaming sites I watch a lot from. Most all now have iPhone/iPad apps- but there's no way to access them (even with the browser on the jailbroken device) since their main website videos are still Flash...

For 1080i I think it will give you 480P. At least, that's how it works on the ATV2.
Can someone confirm that 480p still works with the new software update?

Moreover, if the new Apple TV doesn't support 1080i then I don't see how 480p (only) would be a good solution for customers who don't have a TV that supports 1080p (aren't there a good number of 1080i-only TVs out there?). I guess in the latter case the fallback is 720p, but some TVs that work with 1080i don't even support 720p (I'm talking about some of the HD-Ready TVs from the early 2000s).
