With their dominance now, they would likely not be able to do this - they would very likely face dumping accusations.

Its all about how you spin the price drop.

Spin in a way that it is used to promote adoption of it in schools. Throw up various claims by pilot programs.

I think they mentioned today about how it'll education adopting it easier.

Will the Apple Store be back online sometime this decade? the press conference was like 2 hours ago.

And only Apple could make a product announcement so popular that it effectively becomes a DDoS attack on their own website.

i ddn't think Siri would end up. I wouldn't use Siri on a tablet, just doesn't seem necessary for the purpose of the device

I think it's very much needed to have Siri on iPad!

It's great for dictation.

If you are making content on iPad, it can be good to have Siri for voice to text.

seriously.... I'm sooo unimpressed.

I think I set the bar too high. Just imagine this was really all for new screen and an updated chip.

nothing to see here folks, keep it moving.

Apple store still down. Doesn't seem good. It should have come online as soon as the event was over. I cant remember them being so late before.

Any definitive word on how much RAM the "new" ipad has?

Nevermind.

Dual core CPU/ Quad core GPU

They are including something called "dictation" on the new ipad.

You know...

Given that its already March and Apple didn't indicate anything with iOS 6, and there's no rumors that its being worked on besides simply existing (Something everyone knew), time is running out to announce this thing so developers can work on it...unless...

The next iphone comes out the same time as the iPhone 4s, one year later. That was pretty much confirmed by the lack of attention today IMO. Which isn't bad news, either. But I think its noteworthy.

The iOS release schedule changed as of last years. Apple will probably keep releasing them on October with new iPhones. So, they'll be first heard of in June Developer's Conference, which makes perfect sense.

Before, when they were releasing iOS in June/July, they were announcing it in March. It's the exact same delay but only shifted.

Wow, fantastic update overall. I'm definitely tempted to ditch my iPad 2 for the high-res display.

The only thing I'm a bid disappointed about is that the front camera is still VGA. Facetime calls already look crappy on the low-res display of the iPad 2. It's a shame the camera wasn't updated to take advantage of the retina display, especially when they did a big upgrade on the rear camera. The only time I use the rear camera is to show someone what I'm seeing during a Facetime call. I have only once ever seen one person try to use his iPad as a camera, and he looked quite silly doing it.

Other than that, I'm thrilled, and very tempted to throw down some serious money!

Probably 1gb, but I would not consider it unreasonable if it has 2gb due to the resolution. As far as I recall, there is no distinguishment between VRAM and RAM - and the iPad3's resolution will require a lot of VRAM for games, at least.

My question is...with the iPad 3....will you FINALLY be able to transfer HD 1080p video shot with a canon dslr like the T3i to the ipad via the Apple cam kit....and then BE ABLE TO EDIT THAT VIDEO IN IMOVIE?!!!! Lol

Thats all i wanna know. Love my ipad 1st gen....but skipped the ipad 2nd gen cause it couldnt do this. I am a photographer/videographer/blogger who travels alot, and I LOVE the form factor of the ipad and all it does.

But this is the one sticking point for me. I know there will always be things a laptop or desktop can do that an ipad isnt meant for....however...Tim Cook keeps stressing about a "Post PC world"....and this is a real world application. People shoot high quality video with dslrs and would like to edit that video while on the road. It seems like the umbilical cord has been cut btwn the ios devices and computers with the icloud and syncing....but not being able to load and edit video directly onto your ipad keeps the device stuck in the umbilical cord days. I find it very annoying.

The new retina display and faster speed make it the perfect device to edit videos while on the road.

Of course, like the inevitable wait because they run out of stock immediately, this could all be part of Apple's marketing plan. They've pulled the plug on half a dozen of their servers to increase demand :) ;)

Indeed. Whatever people were expecting more than this, they were just setting out for disappointment. This is an amazing update. Can't wait to buy my first iPad.
