Here's hoping Kaby Lake is in the new Macbook pro's

They just put them in the latest Dell XPS laptops among others....

No USB A port would be pretty annoying. I know Apple's always ahead of the pack yaddi yadda but seriously, how many times every single day do you plug something in via USB A... charging cords, sync cords, USB memory keys... annoying to have to rely on having a dongle everywhere you use your MBP or rushing to an Apple Store when you forget it...

I agree. At least one USB A port would be extremely welcomed...but I don't think Apple will include it. They're jumping in 2 feet to USB C

Which is good several years down the road, but its still a bit of a transitionary period with USB A....maybe they include an adaptor in the box?

Wonder if they'll offer Skylake on all the new RMBP but allow for a BTO option with Kaby? That would be sick!!!!

As an aside, most are assuming (based on rumors) that Apple is revamping the MBP line. What if they're really revamping the MBA line and instead the line-up looks like this:

13" MBA (entry level machine)

12" rMB
13" rMB
15" rMB

15" rMBP (as is but updated to Skylake processors / USB-C / TB3)

11" MBA & 13" MBP get discontinued.

Just saying.

I keep telling myself I'm not getting one, but I'm getting one. I've never owned a desktop and once I graduate I won't need portability any more. Dat 5K screen.....

Same here man, already have a MBP havexnot owned a nice desk top in a long long time!
Between my 6 plus and iPad I don't need a laptop any longer

It's long overdue for Apple to dump the sad and outdated iMac and Mac Mini and merge them into one killer desktop line but that's not going to happen yet again.

Let me see.... hmm... what could possibly happen? I can hear it now. "Look how thin this iMac is. And we only had to drop 6 completely unnecessary ports and features to achieve this. Totally worth it. Now, imagine how trendy it will look on your desk. I know it's a bit of a shock, but here's a softly lit, dreamy video with Jony Ive's dulcet voice to lull you back into the comfort of your trance."

Also, the Mac Mini will now come in your choice of colors (silver or off-silver) as well as a spec bump to 2015.

Sorry to be cranky sounding. Not feeling it this time. The last few years' worth of Mac updates have been crap.

"Pro" and eliminating useful ports to force a cheaper to make standard.

If that's true, I'm leaving the whole platform.

Except the Iris Pro Skylake chips just started shipping in large quantities over the summer. Kaby Lake is available but only if you want a Core M-based MacBook Pro.
Exactly! It absolutely blows my mind how many times people criticize Apple for not using chips that simply have not been in existence. Intel's chip releases have been delayed and broken; that's not Apple's fault. Thanks for clarifying but be prepared that reality will continue to be ignored by the MR cynics.

My 2011 iMac has been slowly dying for the last six months and making my life a hell in the meantime.
It takes 15 minutes since I power up it until it's ready for use, and then it takes almost 5 minutes to launch an app. I use it for work and it is hell, but I've been stubbornly waiting for six months for an update. I REALLY hope the wait is finally over.

And by the way, I know it's not going to happen just yet but, I'm really looking forward to replacing my really old 2nd generation Apple TV and this would be the perfect time to announce the 5th generation. Not very excited about buying the 4th gen and seeing an update shortly thereafter...

I`m kinda confused..
IMHO the really should keep AT LEAST ONE USB3 port for two to three more years..
Yes, you really are confused. USB-C is a connection. USB3 is a protocol. What you want is a USB-A port so you can use legacy hardware without a dongle.

I think you need to be prepared for the fact you are not going to get it.

Just macs are being introduced?

Hopefully so, who cares about anything else really at the current moment? You've got new iPhones, current iPads, watches, lots of watch bands, and old archaic Macs, what do you think they should be introducing??? A car?

Macs man, lots of new Macs....

I'm not sure if you've already done this, but from the age of the machine alone, the HDD may be failing. Even if it's fine, the latest iterations of OS X don't run well on spinning drives.

Have you considered swapping out the HDD with an SSD? Honestly, it will make the world of difference. :)

This seems to have a taste of Halloween. Mac releases are Intel tethered so this will be the biggest release in the next 2-3 years. Buy now (on this release) and over the next full year.

If you like ports get the old skewl Powerbooks while they are still fully Apple warrantied.

How many times every single day? More like how many times a month :) (in my case)... Mouse? USB stick? Nooooope. At most to sync my iPhone.

So would i. I'd also like a iPod classic with a 256GB SSD for my car. Neither will happen. If you can't stream Apple Music on it, Cook, Ive and Dre will kill it.

True, but you can build your own! ;) You can get a 160gb Classic, opent it up, and replace the hdd with a sdd or even sd card.
I've opened up a few Classics, replaced parts, sold them again etc. It's really not difficult.
