Student Discount?

Will the student discount be available on these MacBook's day-of-release or will it be a wait?

No one really knows (expect for Apple of course).... you'll find out on the 14th. :D
Possibly Yes, Possibly No
But I sure do hope so....

On the day the Macbooks become available, the education discount will apply.

A quote from a few pages back....
It's taken me a while to come to this conclusion but truly, noone knows anything. The sooner we all accept that the better! Every Apple launch is different, every time....

I've been speaking to people I know connected in various ways - and they know as much as me. That is...

Nothing!

Do you guys think I could get a replacement (one of the new ones perhaps!) for my current MBP with all the stuff that's wrong with it? I posted a list of it here.

Thanks to anybody who checks it out/answers.

yes, can happen. A friend of mine was having too many issues with his cd 1st gen macbook pro and after sending it back and forth to them many times he demanded a replacement with a new c2d machine and they did it.

:)

I know that this really isn't about Oct 14th, but I was wondering for all you previous Windows users out there, how long it took you to get used to learing your way around a Mac? That is the only thing that worries me. Don't worry though, I am most def. getting a macbook! :) I am just curious. Any good books or sites that really helped you?
Thanks!
:D

In the blink of an eye..... nothing hard at all. I mostly just experimented, but if I needed help just googled it.
I've still got to learn a few more keyboard shortcuts (I know most of them), and the trackpad (on MBP) works great!
Mac is the best! :D

It won't take long at all to learn how to get around your mac. Good luck! :)

As long as it has been in for repair a few times and the problems still persist, AppleCare will replace the machine.

Definately, just tell them after the 14th, when the new ones are out.... :D
Are you still under AppleCare?

Yeah, exactly! Haha. That's my plan.

Yes, I have AppleCare for just over another year. It's been in twice, each time for multiple things wrong.

Here's to hoping for a brand new MacBook Pro... for FREE!

It took me maybe 2 days to get all the major stuff down. If you're not the best with computers to begin with, like my sister when she switched, it took her about 4 days. No one I know who has the slightest bit of computer knowledge has had any problem. Expect to be good to go in a few days, and good luck!

I don't know if it will help you but here is a list from Apple of all the keyboard shortcuts!

If you don't use keyboard shortcuts... well, it won't take long to learn your way around your new computer ;)

I know it's been said, but I just had to have my peace. I really do hope these things are available for pickup on the 14th. I'm all ready to go. Oh, does anyone know if the Apple store will transfer my old data to the new mac for free?

When I switched last fall, a friend recommended ponying up the $99 for Apple's One to One service. It's basically one on one training that you can use up to once a week for a year - you just make an appointment and go in and you can ask an Apple trainer whatever you want to know. http://www.apple.com/retail/onetoone/

I found it helpful, although the trainer's knowledge did not get to the super-power-user stage. But it was faster than trying to wade through training manuals for the basic 'get up and running' stuff since you can ask questions directly.

If I had a Windows laptop, I'd just be content with what I had - here though, I'm now trying to offload my MacBook (white, 2.2Ghz, 4GB RAM) for the same price I bought it at (because obviously, they keep their value well!), so hopefully the £550 I'll (hopefully!) raise will cover a new MacBook or whatever's going down in two days time! That's if.. of course, it's of any worth, heh.

hey, that's my plan too, I've been having a bunch of issues with my mbp and I'm hoping they replace it.

Hmm I have a big problem. At 1 PM eastern time i have class. At 1 PM is also the keynote. Choices, choices...
