Everyone is wrong about what the image means. The staff meeting that originated the requirements went something like this:

STAFF LEADER: We need an image to use while promoting the release of the new phone. It must be something graphically simple yet colorful, and should suggest a deeper meaning without actually revealing it.

TEAM MEMBER: What is the meaning, and how obtuse about clouding it are we supposed to make it?

STAFF LEADER: There is no real meaning. We want people to see the image and assume that there must be SOME hidden message behind it. They'll fill in the blanks with what they want to see.

You all have the missed most important - one more thing. AR Glasses will be announced.

Heres hoping they slip in a few goodies for us Mac users too

That'll most likely come at a Mac event in October.

I know Apple doesn't usually do nostalgic things such as this, but when they announce the iPhone 8 come September 12th, it would be cool if they showed a flashback to when Steve announced the first iPhone.
The whole: "An iPod... a phone... these are not three separate devices, this is one device, and we are calling it... iPhone. Today, Apple reinvents the phone." Maybe with a black and white filter, with the crazy ones ad playing in the background in its entirety (the version with Steve's voice over). Then have a montage showing how iPhone has changed over the years, and how it’s affected peoples lives. Cue a slow zoom out showing all of this playing as a video on a phone screen... an OLED phone screen that is. Zoom out further, with the camera slowly panning around this glistening black glass enclosure along with the Apple logo. So basically, make it look like it was playing as a montage on the new phones display, while showing the phone off bit by bit, then ending with a hand gripped around it just like with the original iPhone. And closing it with the crazy ones ad still playing in the background:

"... because the people who are crazy enough to change the world, are the ones who do." *crowd goes nuts*

Maybe that's too cheesy for some, but it gives me goosebumps just thinking about it, and has that warm, classic Apple vibe to it.

Idea of the century.

I think it's possible they could do a Mac event in October if they have more to announce for the iMac Pro, the problem is they updated most the Mac stuff at WWDC so I don't see much they would have to announce at an October event.

It would make sense to postpone the Apple TV announcement in October together with a full showcase of HomePod and maybe something about the Mac.
I think the September event would last too long if they wanted to announce everything. Two different iPhone lines, the new Apple Watch, Apple TV... and HomePod deserves some more time on stage in my opinion, we didn't see everything in WWDC

I forget how they did Mac Pro back in 2013. I remember they announced it at WWDC and it shipped that December. But what happened in between?

Although the screen is larger because it's edge to edge (to edge to mostly edge) the form factor for the iPhone 8 is about the same as a standard, not a plus, iPhone 7, and only a little larger than a standard iPhone 6. https://www.macrumors.com/2017/05/25/iphone-8-case-iphone-7-comparison/

Edit: Reading a little it is also thicker. Maybe the race to thinness (and damn the consequences of doing so) is over.

If only that were true w/ the MacBook Pro... sigh

I want to agree with you in regards to Apple being able to offset any power usage increase due to resolution, I really do. But I have yet to encounter an Android device that can last all day, and things only got worse once 2k screens became the norm over there.

On the flipside, with the apparent push into 4k, a higher res screen would only make sense.
All the rumors point to a higher resolution screen on the iPhone 8 than the 7+ and probably the 7s+ as well. It won't go full 4k yet because Apple doesn't seem too interested in pairing iPhones with VR goggles the way Samsung does.

This is going to be a LONG presentation.

Think of what they have to say:

  1. Introduction by Tim Cook, highlighting what Apple has done in the past year
  2. A tour of the new Apple Park campus on video
  3. Introduction of the final version of MacOS 10.13 High Sierra
  4. Introduction of the final version of iOS 11.0
  5. Introduction of the 2017 model iPhones (7S, 7S Plus and 8)
  6. Introduction of the V3 Apple Watch with final version of watchOS 4.0
  7. Introduction of the new Apple TV streaming box with Ultra HD support and final version of tvOS 11.0
  8. Concluding remarks and live musical performance

It could take three hours for the whole presentation to complete.

I doubt anything Mac or High Sierra will be mentioned. This will be an iOS event.

I'm sure we'll see a dedicated High Sierra event, perhaps including an update on the iMac Pro and God willing an updated Mac Mini, later in September or early October.

I could be wrong, but I doubt Apple will want Mac news stealing thunder from iOS or vice versa.

I'm upgrading from an 5S this year, myself, but I'm not holding my breath. Sadly, in the past years Apple has hardly ever presented anything that wasn't already heavily rumored/leaked long before the event. I feel like we already know everything that's coming. I'm not expecting any other big surprises, sadly. I miss those times.

Don't read MacRumors then!

"and one more thing...we've teamed up with Garmin to improve Maps"...I wish. However, Maps has come a long ways but still has room for improvement. It's definitely better than using the GPS in my vehicle...love the real time traffic. On the GPS note, Garmin app is just like having a real Garmin GPS and I really like it (just haven't used it in sometime).

What happened to the funny post bout lemmings?
We think it is true, nowadays Apple is mostly targeted towards weak-willed "follower" types, aka sheep or lemmings.
Long gone are the days of "think different"...

The problem is with words like that your going to easily offend people.

4K on a screen smaller than 40" is just dumb. lol

But just like cameras, both phone and DLR's, keep touting pixels long after other refinements and improvements have become more important than pixel count, manufacturers hype screen resolution even if you can't see the difference on your screen.

This is exciting! It's going to be my first iPhone, I currently use an iPod touch 4g and I'm ready to let it rest for good. I was actually going to buy a 7 plus since I'd heard the 8 wasn't conning until November but as it's likely it'll be out in a few weeks I'll go with the flashy 8.

I'm more than ready, can't count the days!

So if you look at the grey area in the Apple logo, you notice it forms a notch with the blue part. This confirms that there will be that ugly bar at the top of the screen.

I disagree. If you follow the apple leaf you'll notice the shape continues in it, forming a square or a rectangle.

It's not. The change from regular screens to beautiful retina displays on 3.5 inches was huge. I still get impressed every time I look at my iPod touch 4g. Typefaces are rendered beautifully.
