Apple really need to pull something out the bag. I am a massive Apple fan but by the looks of the rumours we are all going to be underwhelmed with what is coming. If it does not bring the features that the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has then I am going to be switching

By your logic, Tim can never sell his shares if you believe the stock price will continue to rise. At some point, you have to say "that's high enough" and sell because really, what good are stock options if you can't exercise them?

I totally agree with you.

I would only add that, selling does not necessarily mean that you are not intending to buy back what you just sold... either at a better price, or for any strategic planning, and/or helping the stock price to rise...

ANY chance of an updated iPhone SE? for the life of me I can't figure out what their update strategy and timeline is going to be moving forward.

Quite honestly, I don't believe that Apple plans to update the SE in less that 6 months after launching it.

On my opinion, the iPhone SE, because of its particular and unique specifications in terms of shape, size, and intended Target (price), has no direct rival so far, I think it will be on the market until we see an iPhone 7S, and last for about a Year.

Actually only early 30s. Invested wisely in school when I made a bunch of money and bought a stock people told me I was stupid for buying from a dying company.

You must have misread my post, I said you must be well into your 40s now, not at the time you bought it. But it sounds like you were in your 30s when you bought the stock (because if you are in your early 30s now, then you would've been like 8 years old in 1993 and not been the one to buy the stock in the first place), which puts you in your mid 50s now, which makes it all the more classless to be flaunting your $5MM+ in stock. Very tasteless, and very tacky.

This will prompt a bigger backlash than the removal of the floppy drive, optical drive, and the 30-pin connector.

I will never spend $50 on an antenna convertor. Just as I'll never ever adopt Lightning earphones or use some stupid converter. Don't care how much better it is. The headphone jack we've had all this time is good enough. And will be good enough for another 100 years.

I seem to recall similar predictions when they removed the floppy drive, optical drive, and 30-pin connector. The whole thing is that what we know right at this instant is all speculation. So unlike most I will sit back and wait for the real answer on 9/7 instead of getting all worked up over speculation. Nobody knows, maybe they are using the latest Bluetooth. Does anyone outside of Apple know for sure? NOPE! But there are those on this forum that will say they know. Maybe Apple is using the newest Bluetooth, maybe they are not. We will know for sure in about 8 days. Until then this is all speculation and conjecture.

As for the antenna comparison there are a lot of people that chose not spend $50 on an antenna converter instead they spend up $200 a month on cable TV or satellite TV service. And I remember when people swore they would NEVER pay for TV service!

And we had sailing ships for 100 years why do we need to go to steam powered then diesel powered, then nuclear powered ships. Sails have worked fine for a 100 years and they still work 100 years later. Get rid of all those diesel and nuclear powered ships and go back to sails! They still work great! Why would we want to move forward.

I seem to recall people complaining about the railroads going from steam to diesel power and saying steam has worked fine for 100 years and will work fine for another 100 years. But we found out diesel power was better and cheaper in the long run. I know people will try to twist my point around to suit their opinion. I am just pointing out that when things change people always say we have done it this way for 100 years and we can keep doing it that way for another 100 years.

In line with past events, the September 7 event will begin at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time.
It seems writers rely on this and similar constructs instead of simple verbs. e.g. "Like past events...." or "The September 7th event's 10 a.m. start time matches past events"

What?

Beleive it or not, with the move to ATSC, you didn't have to change your rabbit ears. The same antenna that worked with NTSC still work with ATSC. What you need is a new ATSC tuner (almost every TV in the last decade comes with these standard)

And you know why they come with an ATSC tuner standard? Because the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT FORCED manufacturers to put them into their TVs. It wasn't innovation, it wasn't choice it was a mandate by the government so that the broadcasters could move to ATSC. And while you can use rabbit ears for digital tv it is not recommended because the reception sucks.

So I guess they should stick with the 3.5mm jack until the government forces them to change it. They should not innovate at all.

"Innovate".

Why don't people who need the jack to be dropped so badly just fill theirs with superglue?

Did I say I needed it removed? NOPE! Did I say I am going to cry if it is removed? NOPE! Did I say my life is going to end if it is removed? NOPE! Is my life going to be changed in anyway if it still existed? NOPE!

Don't try to put words into my mouth. As what they are replacing it with is all speculation people are having fits over nothing. Wait for the announcement! Sheesh!

I use rabbit ears with my digital TV now. The screen is perfect, better than the image I get from my Apple TV. I have never read this recommendation that I should not use them.

LOL - I never said I want to remove the 3.5!!! I mentioned it earlier - I'm simply trying to picture this from Apple's point of view. Playing devil's advocate, so to speak.

If you're comparing my bluetooth headphones to the included EarPods, then why even complain? It's quite likely that every new iPhone will still come with EarPods, just lightning instead of 3.5.

I think what Apple sees, and what I see from nearly every single person that's using headphones, is that they're all using the included EarPods. Let's be real. 99% of people won't care. They'll just use what's in the box. We're such a minority (other expensive 3.5mm based headphones or bluetooth headphones) that Apple probably doesn't care. The public in general will likely have been much more annoyed about the move from the 30-pin than losing the 3.5mm this year.

And why do most people use the included EarPods? Because they are free and most people are not enough of an AudioPhile to care about the sound quality being perfect and most people are blasting them so loud in their ears anyway what difference does the quality make because they are already distorting the music.

I have very good hearing (proven by hearing tests) and use he EarPods for some things because of the background noise in most places they are "good enough". I do have a good external speaker (Bluetooth or wired) that I use at work and it sounds awesome. I also am the person that back around the year 2000 spent well over $600 for a pair of speakers for my home audio system which was based around a Denon Amplifier. So I do know something about sound quality.

But back to my first point, most people really don't care about the sound quality or they would replace the free earbuds with better quality ones or they wouldn't crank the volume so loud it distorts the music (and makes them go deaf).

Glad to hear they are working so well for you. I know people that have tried to use them and they sucked. They got a digital antenna and it worked much better! Glad you are having good luck! :)

Just to save everybody's time, this will the course of events of the forum

"Boring I will keep my [insert previous iPhone version]"
"Apple is not innovating anymore"
"I am switching to Android because I am bored."
"So expensive. I can buy China phone for 1/3rd of the price."
"Stupid Apple. Website is hanging/crashing."
"My pre-order is in. How about you guys?"
"Mine is shipping! Here's the screenshot."
"Out of stock? Stupid Apple. I'm buying Android."
"Does anybody know if I can just walk in to store [insert Apple store location] and buy one?"
"My iPhone has [insert minor blemish], I am returning it. Apple is going downhill."
"I just bought this new iPhone. What a ripoff. I hate Apple."
*repeat when t = September 2017
I'm kind of partial to canonical posts. ;)

I suggest adding: "Time to brush up on my Chinese."

I'm in my early 30s right now. Bought when I was still in school. There are those of us that got into programming at a young age and made money selling software utilities in the early days.

At $1-$2 a share in 1993, $50k-$100k seems like an awful lot of money to be made by a 6-8 year old.

Anyway, that's besides the point. Nobody cares how much stock you have in Apple and you could've made whatever point you were making without a tacky personal anecdote.

not a single thing in this post is true.

the move from NTSC to ATSC is innovative. you went from using analogue SD signal, to Digital, HD signal, over the exact same airwaves.

yes. it required a new tuner to do so. The government passed the rules to change because the old analogue frequencies were completely full. ATSC allowed for far FAR greater data to be sent digitally over the identical airwaves, allowing for full HD signal over the air, and additional features / functionality.

As for signal sucking. Thats a matter of location and power amplification of your rabbit ears and had absolutely nothing to do with having a NTSC or ATSC tuner. The exact same anttena that was usable with NTSC is perfectly usable with ATSC. In fact, I had proven this by creating my own homemade antena out of gutiar string and cardboard and was able to pick up a dozen different Over the Air ATSC digital HD feeds, in addition to a few digital audio that is now broadcasting over ATSC as well.

The move from NTSC to ATSC was absolutely 100% innovative. it was a brand new technology that replaced, in full functionality the previous one. While providing a universal standard for all TV and broadcasters to use, in one, full all at once switch

the problem with dropping 3.5mm right now, is there is no suitable replacement. Lightning is proprietary and non-standard, thus not a suitable full time replacement for the 3.5mm jack. If, like tv tuners, all the audio manufacturers got together and replaced it with a brand new, more advanced standard, that would be one thing. But Apple arbitrarily doing it to force MFI revenues is a joke

a) Just to be clear, there is not such thing as a "digital antenna", it is a totally made up marketing term. What those really are is just a plain ole UHF antenna. This is because most broadcasters moved to the UHF TV frequencies when the move to digital happened. So a so-called(marketing term only) digital antenna is exactly the same as a UHF antenna that used to be required to get anything on TV channel 15-60. There is ZERO different about an antenna marketed as a digital antenna from a UHF antenna that was used 50 years ago.

b) "Rabbit Ears" are for VHF frequencies. They will work great if your local ATSC channels are in the VHF range. They however work very poorly on UHF frequencies, so if most of your local stations are on UHF, you will need a UHF antenna.

In my town, most broadcasters moved to UHF, but one of the majors stayed on VHF, so I have to have both rabbit ears (to pickup the VHF station), and a UHF antenna to pickup the rest.

BULLCRAP! The government did force them to put in the ATSC tuners to prepare for the move to digital.

And I know people that tried to use rabbit ears and the reception sucked. They bought a newer "digital" (selling buzz word) antenna and it works great now!

Did you read the article? It was published a few days ago and talks about specifics of what Apple is doing right now to squeeze more margins and screw over their workers.

And that is different from every company that is working in China how?

They all unfortunately do it. It is just Apple is a big target to go after.
