And this article implies that there are going to be a lot of pissed off MacBook Pro people as they will have to wait longer for a new MacBook Pro..

I keep scratching my head over this one… It feels like Apple doesn't want to be a "computer company" any more. I would gladly buy a new MacBook Pro if the features are right. But, I'm in the same position with you that I really don't need it.

Once the back to school promotion was set to end on the 5th. This was a given

Apple today sent out media invites for an iPhone-centric event that will be held on Wednesday, September 7 at 10:00 am at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, California. Media invites (via The Verge) offer up a first look at the theme of the event and feature the simple tagline: "See you on the 7th."

The fall 2016 event is expected to see the debut of the next-generation iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, which are rumored to feature improved cameras, better processors, and improved water resistance, implemented through the removal of the headphone jack and the introduction of a new flush, pressure-sensitive home button. Both devices are said to look similar to the iPhone 6s, with the same general size and shape, but with relocated antenna bands that no longer span the back of the devices.

Faster LTE and Wi-Fi speeds are rumored, as is a jump in storage space with 32GB positioned as the new minimum and a 256GB option rumored at the high end (possibility limited to iPhone 7 Plus). Display improvements first introduced in the 9.7-inch iPad Pro, including the True Tone feature able to adjust the display to match ambient lighting could be offered, and the larger iPhone 7 Plus is expected to have exclusive features like 3GB RAM and a dual-lens camera for crisper, brighter images.

Apple may use the event to debut a second-generation Apple Watch, said to include better waterproofing, an improved processor, and a built-in GPS chip. Design changes are not expected for the next-generation Apple Watch, but new materials and new bands are always a possibility. Apple rotates its Apple Watch band offerings on a regular basis and we expect to see new designs this fall.

Most of Apple's Mac lineup is due for an update, but the most highly anticipated machine, the MacBook Pro, will reportedly not be debuting at the event, coming later in the year instead. It's not known if other Macs will see a refresh announcement at the event, but it's unlikely, and we're also not expecting any iPad announcements at this time.

We will, however, get an update on the prospective launch dates of iOS 10, macOS Sierra, watchOS 3, and tvOS 10. We're expecting to see iOS 10 and watchOS 3 launch shortly ahead of the release date of the next-generation iPhone (rumored to be September 16 or September 23), while macOS Sierra could come a bit later, perhaps towards the end of the month. tvOS 10, as a new operating system, could launch alongside iOS 10 or alongside macOS Sierra.

In line with past events, the September 7 event will begin at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time. As it has done with several past events, Apple is likely to stream the event live on its website and on the Apple TV. MacRumors will also be providing full event coverage, both on MacRumors.com and through our MacRumorsLive Twitter account.

Update: Apple has announced it will indeed be live streaming the event.

Bokeh depth focus with no noise in the blacks, a hint to the dual camera capabilities.

Edit: I wanted to add my thoughts higher-up after looking at this graphic for a bit.

It seems odd that they would use such a dark background, so I have to wonder if there is something with a dark mode going on, but of course it could also relate to the Watch which has an OLED display. The typography seems a little out of place, set close to the baseline and thicker than normal. It's strange that they also mentioned the "7th" like that, as they don't typically do that on event graphics, which could potentially confirm that this will be called the iPhone 7 and not the 6SE. Maybe next year, for the redesign, they'll just change the naming, such as getting rid of the number, or perhaps call that the iPhone Pro or iPhone Air.

This isn't directed at you specifically, rather it is a comment on how every piece of an Apple announcement is scrutinized for hidden meaning, much how Kremlinologists poured over everything from the USSR to glean the hidden meanings. If I were running Apple I'd mess with the announcements just to send the Appleologists into a tizzy every time one was sent out.

See they meant "See you on the 7th" as in the 7th day of the month, 14 characters in the phrase "see you on the 7th" = introducing the iPhone 7.
Also:
1. 7/2 (twice the water resistance) = 3.5 = 3.5mm headphone jack will be gone
2. Black background = space black!
3. the two white dots strategically placed next to each other = a pair of eyes = iris scanning/dual cameras!
4. overlapping of circles = new multitasking capabilities!

.....yeah

If the iPhone 7 doesn't have a higher pixel density display and a better camera, I'm gone. Just look at the display on the galaxy note 7. It's worlds ahead of the iPhone display which has been the same pixel density since 2010.

I've had an iPhone since 2008 and currently have the '6'. Every time I use a Galaxy S 6 or 7, and then go back to my iPhone, the display is just a disappointment.

Apple used to be the company adding new features years ahead of its time. Now it's playing catchup to the Koreans.

The brilliant color and appearance of the display on the Note 7 is more due to the use of an OLED screen, so you are likely to be disappointed.

Did MR really need to do an update indicating that Apple will be live streaming the event? What was the last event they didn't stream? For something as big as the iPhone, I would have thought it obvious that they would be streaming it. It seems the only other topic that gets more press than the iPhone are new watch bands.

Personally, I will likely upgrade but will do the 12 month plan on AT&T or Apple Upgrade Program. But I also think that it would send a powerful message to Tim and Apple if the usual lines around the Apple Store weren't there.

A blurry apple designed in low light? That's mean better camera for night mode... Meet on 7th refers to iPhone 7...

So what else? Hmm the image is 16 pix larger than previous invite so base storage get bumped to 32 go...

Darn, was hoping for a hidden meaning in the invite that would indicate Macs. Oh well, October or bust!

Lightning headphones don't count since that's proprietary, and nobody like that. Using 3.5mm adapters aren't an option since they aren't solutions. Bluetooth is the only real option, so claiming there are "many other options" isn't valid.
many other options - reference too many other cell phones with your beloved jack!

I hope I am wrong, but I fully expect this to be the bad day for Apple and Tim Cook.

of course it will. Lunching an already outdated hardware well behind the competition.

If they dont announce the update Mac Book Pro then the day will be disastrous but EXPLAIN why Cook is selling his Apple Shares....

In 10 Years, perhaps they draw back Forstall after Bill Gates saves Apple once again.....

The past proves it.... Once Jobs left, Apple died. Then they got him back and Apple flourished. Unfortunately for everyone Steve is not in the position to ever return and this time it will NOT flourish, unless the find a new one... I'd say that Scully which had no clue about nothing would have been able to perform better with the legacy Steve left Cook, than Cook who is more like a Book Keeper !
