"Design changes are not expected for the next-generation Apple Watch, but new materials and new bands are always a possibility."

One can only live in hope. More Apple watch bands will totally make up for them removing useful functionality like the iPhone 7 headphone jack.:(

Just to save everybody's time, this will the course of events of the forum

"Boring I will keep my [insert previous iPhone version]"
"Apple is not innovating anymore"

"Stupid Apple. Website is hanging/crashing."
"My pre-order is in. How about you guys?"
"Mine is shipping! Here's the screenshot."
"Out of stock? Stupid Apple. I'm buying Android."
"Does anybody know if I can just walk in to store [insert Apple store location] and buy one?"
"My iPhone has [insert minor blemish], I am returning it. Apple is going downhill."
"I just bought this new iPhone. What a ripoff. I hate Apple."

Spot. On.

These next 9 days of anticipation may be best part of the event (I hope not). So enjoy the hopes and dreams now, while there's still time... cuz reality rarely lives up to desirous expectations.

They cried when Apple removed the floppy drive from computers.

They cried when Apple removed the CD/DVD-ROM from computers.

They cried when Apple removed the physical keyboard from phones.

They cried when Apple removed the Dock Connector from devices.

Somehow, it all worked out for the better, despite what those that did the crying claimed at the time claimed would be the end.
CDs/DVDs were cheaper and offered more storage than floppy disks. People got over it quickly.

The touch keyboard was more versatile, durable, and allowed for faster typing. People got over it quickly.

The dock connector left when the main product that used it, the iPod, was dying. Lightning connectors were reversible and easier to insert and they retained the same price point so it wasn't a big deal to gradually (or even quickly) replace your old cables. People got over it quickly.

The thing about removing the headphone jack is that that's an interface used by people almost everyday and doesn't offer alternatives that aren't cumbersome or expensive. People will have to always carry around an adapter, or shell out the cash for two or three hundred dollar headphones. All the other examples you listed did not have this problem, or if it did the technology and pricing juxtaposition was balanced and made it an easier pill to swallow for people. But not so with wireless headphones. I have probably a half-dozen or so pairs of 3.5 mm headphones, but just one pair of bluetooth.

It's the unveiling of apple glasses, the blur of the photo is the point before the glasses get to your eyes. Anyone that has worn glasses will understand.;)

Seriously though. There's something weird about that invite. The typography seems kinda weak for Apple. It seems so plain, but not in their usual elegant way. It's not as thin, it's set uncomfortably close to the baseline of the graphic.

That was my first thought, too. Looks so much un-apple-like and it's so obvious. Thicker font after all that going thinner? It's also not their standard font. And way to close to the baseline...it looks more like someone just made a quick Photoshop thing then anything we've seen from Apple in the past.

Strange indeed.

You're missing the big issue: Each of those were replaced with a better replacement. The only logical replacement of the 3.5mm jack is USB-C, not Lightning or Bluetooth.

Issues:
-Delay
-quality
-cost
-more batteries to recharge

Having used bluetooth headphones for nearly 10 years, I must say that with multiple different pairs over the past 4 years, I've had no issue with delay and sound quality has been the same as inexpensive wired headphones. It is another thing to charge, though it would be interesting if Apple came up with some AirPods that can do a quick top up from the iPhone's lightning port.

And lightning is still available to fall back on.

One thing that really bothers me while reading this thread is people referring to the colorful blurry dots as 'bokeh'. I am aware that this picture effect is commonly called this in Apps/Filters, but as a photographer, it just annoys the crap out of me ...for me, 'bokeh' is something completely different...

"And today, we unveil the next generation iPhone, complete without a useful audio jack that millions billions love and enjoy!"

Yeah, about that audio jack....wouldn't it be nice if you speak for yourself how much you love it and leave millions/billions speak for themselves?

Issues:
-Delay
-quality
-cost
-more batteries to recharge

you forgot:
-Weight
-Comfortable
-Needs to be replaced every few years when the batteries fail
-Can't share music on road trips by passing the cord
-Can't listen to someone else's song easily by plugging into their jack
