Ask APPLE

perception MATTERS, mere implication from a handful of occurrences carries ENORMOUS WEIGHT.

All religion is UNSCIENTIFIC TWADDLE

However it controls about 70% of the "goings on" on Planet Earth

and controls far far far far MORE than that.

Now, ask again about that "unscientific test" Wise up

I'm not even sure what you're on about. It seems you just like arguing about anything and everything.

Also, i know you think this makes you sound smart since you drone it out every opportunity...but it really doesn't

Apple was close to having to declare bankruptcy. Apple bought NeXT (the company Steve Jobs started after leaving Apple, the OS of which is the foundation for OS X). Steve Jobs came back as an advisor and then interim CEO. Microsoft invested $150 million in Apple and agreed to continue making Mac software.

I said it's not 1997 because Apple is wildly successful right now. Back in the 90s there were Apple evangelists—people who did what you suggest doing, which is to "spread the good news" about Apple to borrow another Biblical phrase. I was just saying that Apple doesn't need that now. In fact, I think holding Apple to high standards can only help it.

Personally I have not been disappointed in Apple's hardware. That's been good, IMO. The software quality on the Mac side started slipping about 4-5 years ago. I was an "Apple evangelist" in the 90s. Been an Apple user since the Apple II, but that doesn't mean I'm not critical of Apple when I think it's taking a wrong turn.

That makes sense now, thanks for sharing. I agree with what you said. Software has definitely slipped over the years.

If what Apple says is true (only 9 reported cases), then the chances of this happening is literally one in a million ;)

Note 3 criticized for its size

Biased. A review is mostly a personal opinion on a product. The reviewer simply likes the iPhone better, and I'd agree with him myself. Who wants a freakin' stylus embedded inside a smartphone? The iPhone 6 Plus feels so much nicer to use in comparison. The software feels like it was built for a larger screened device (reachability) unlike the somewhat thicker Note 3.

But if it in any way disparages Apple then it's a huge conspiracy perpetuated by stupid fat people and the media.

Seriously, the level of hypocrisy here is nuts.

Ummm, unless Apple is lying about only 9 complaints this issue has been a media creation.

Have independent engineers run controlled tests.

I agree. But it depends what is meant by "independent." If Apple hires another company to do the testing, I'm sure that the results would be viewed with suspicion by some.

Doing this comprehensively isn't easy. First, you have to come up with reproducible test conditions that most closely mimic the circumstances under which devices may bend under real-world conditions (i.e., in a tight pants pocket). Second, you have to figure out what forces to apply and where/how long to apply them, possibly by placing measuring devices in people's pockets.

After reading the reports referred to in the MacRumors article, I can't tell how much of this Apple did, but the descriptions make it sound that they tried to test under simulated and real-world conditions.

I seriously doubt they are lying. However, the weak spot is the fact that these are "reported" cases, and only based on a week's usage. Where will we be six months in; and how many people just haven't yet noticed a bend that has already happened?

For those that trusts Apple's testing on the matter. Can the same be said for their software testing on 8.0.1 update?

Software and hardware are two didferent animals. As it's getting more and more complicated, it's hard to predict what's gonna happen when different lines of codes coming together. They apparently did test their software before releasing to the public, but there are still many unknow factors that may affect how it function. That's why no matter how good an OS is or claimed to be, there will still be various update to fix bugs.

There may need to be some type of stupidity/smart test for people out there.

It may be because those 9 people use their phones on a normal circumstance, whereas the other 9,999,991 people use their phones the wrong way.

So what I haven't seen anyone mention is the most obvious to me... Apple conduct their durability tests with 'cold' phones - they're off and haven't been used. Having a phone in your pocket for a couple of hours will warm the phone up, but more so if someone just finished a session of heavy usage and the phone was hot, puts it in their pocket and sits down... Of course the phone will become more malleable in this state... Did Apple forget to test this scenario and not factor it in.... Oops!

You are basically correct in that heating aluminum or steel will make it easier to bend. But the temperature you're talking about for the tempered aluminum Apple is claiming they use are in the hundreds of degrees (F). Well above what a phone would see even with heavy use.

I would trust the calibrated test equipment more then bendboy who is likely looking for youtube hits.

If apple does not want another bend Boy, I would suggest they stop making phones that can be bent by hand. I'm not saying that bendgate is real, they could have all been bent by samsung to create this. We will need more evidence before we can definitely have an answer.

But the fact is, the iphone 6+ is easier to bend by hand then the other phones that he tested.

What if Android manufactures create a display that will not crack during the famous drop tests we see all the time. Would you treat dropboy the same way.

IF apple has the only phone that cracks during a drop test it might be a vaild reason to get one phone over another. Obviously a cracked display from a drop is user error 100%. But if Samsung can engineer a display that does not, its a bonus. I bet if the iPone 6+ had the durability of the LG flex, you would be trashing all the other phones that could not withstand a drop test.

Does an iPhone bend by itself, no they do not. The user is responsible 100%, but if engineering can reduce the stupidity of the users I see no reason not too. A note 4 does not bend like an iPhone and might be a better buy for someone who is rough and prone to user error. For this reason I see no reason to shitt on bendboy. The only reason for someone to hate the guy is if they are a nutcase apple sheep apologist.

I am so amazed at the level of ignorance in this thread. So some of you moan about how Apples testing thousands of phones with jigs and real world test aren't good enough because well, you say so. But one guy who bent his phone somehow under normal use, but doesn't know how he did it, proceeds to put pressure at the buckle point and is shaking and squeezing the blood supply out of his fingertips to further the damage is all you need? I don't need to be an apple apologist to see the stupidity in that line of thinking.

As cultofmac already reported, there is a history of many different phones that have bent and most are due to user error. Period. Some are better than others and I absolutely agree iphone is not at the top but this is pure FUD.

Popularity of a video != truth.

The video is 100% true, The iPhone 6+ bends easier then the other 6 phones that he tested. If that correlates to the bent phones being reported is a different story. Have a drop test with 10 phones vs the LG flex. Will the results be false, untrue or misleading? A phone display cracking from a Fall is user error but would not make the drop test untrue.

Hey Bob - can you define "bend so easy"? Like a guy sitting and trying with sustained force to bend it? I can bend a lot if things that way that don't become "bend so easy".

Seriously, how retarded are people? If you try to break something - you can! Amazing!

Sure I can define it. Bent easily means it bent from being in your front pocket when sitting.
