Consumer Reports is about as bias-free as your going to get. Sure they might not be perfect, but they are not hired by Apple or competitors and they don't have advertising accounts. Personally I'll be very interested in what their testing reveals either pro or con.

But what relevance do they have today? How many people look to consumer reports before they buy a product? My guess is not many. But no doubt what ever test they do will be all over the media, especially if it's bad for Apple.

I guess there is no way to convince you to the contrary.

No because outside of reviews where Apple products generally get good scores there is no pro-Apple bias. And the comments sections to any article are probably 10-1 anti-Apple. Of course that's the case on most tech sites. Ars Technica posters might be a little more balanced but not by much.

It would be hypocritical for you to believe *anything* then. Do you believe gravity exists?

It's not that he doesn't believe Apple tests for durability. I think he's pointing out that, in this story, they didn't show anything having to do with bending resistance in any objective terms.

Yes, most LAB TESTS are GARBAGE

Engineers, ,most of which are HUBRIS FILLED DEMENTED GOONS ............, are PROUD of their precession testing.

precise yes, mimic REAL WORLD, no.

Wiser heads know they need only give the Iphone 6 Plus to a gum chewing teenager TWIT, about 20 of them , follow them around, check the phone ever few hours, video it all, and pinpoint the REAL WORLD FAILURE POINTS

Comments does not define the bias of a website. Many tech websites have shown bias for Apple, just as many websites show bias towards Google. IMO only Anandtech shows no bias.

The relevance they have is they are a totally independent testing organization. I don't know how many people still look to them for guidance in purchasing a product, but independent product testers serve a purpose.

Do you not want it tested? If it's properly designed it should test just fine.

You people miss the clear and bold point.

Take something with holes it in, cut it THINNER, make it LARGER,

....if the HOLES remain the same size, you got a PROBLEM.

Swiss-Cheese.jpg

APPLE DID NOT CUT DOWN THE VOLUME BUTTONS AND THEIR RESPECTIVE HOLES........ PERIOD

Design FLAW

See... this is what I meant. No one is interested in the truth. Truth is boring. I rather believe that iPhone 6+ is not a durable phone out there. I rather believe that as the truth.

Totally agree, and nice to have someone prove your point like that!

What exactly does the video show? All i saw is a bunch of machines going up and down flat? In samsung video i see things like drop test button test among others.

That apple video all i see is a guy saying most extensive test ever did and a machine going up and down?

Sorry but I've no idea what you mean by that or its significance I'm afraid.

Apple was close to having to declare bankruptcy. Apple bought NeXT (the company Steve Jobs started after leaving Apple, the OS of which is the foundation for OS X). Steve Jobs came back as an advisor and then interim CEO. Microsoft invested $150 million in Apple and agreed to continue making Mac software.

I said it's not 1997 because Apple is wildly successful right now. Back in the 90s there were Apple evangelists—people who did what you suggest doing, which is to "spread the good news" about Apple to borrow another Biblical phrase. I was just saying that Apple doesn't need that now. In fact, I think holding Apple to high standards can only help it.

Personally I have not been disappointed in Apple's hardware. That's been good, IMO. The software quality on the Mac side started slipping about 4-5 years ago. I was an "Apple evangelist" in the 90s. Been an Apple user since the Apple II, but that doesn't mean I'm not critical of Apple when I think it's taking a wrong turn.

'1 in a million'.

Nope, millions of these phones will snap. Why? They are too big. People will naturally want to use them as a mobile phone stored in a pocket; not a handbag.

Ridiculous.

If they do all this testing, why do they bend so easily? I guess the key assumption in Apple's argument would have to be that a very small number are defective and bend. Otherwise this doesn't make sense and inviting them to the facility was useless.

Hey Bob - can you define "bend so easy"? Like a guy sitting and trying with sustained force to bend it? I can bend a lot if things that way that don't become "bend so easy".

Seriously, how retarded are people? If you try to break something - you can! Amazing!

You have a problem with him?

He did zero wrong.

He simply showed how the iPhone 6+ bent more than other phones.

That is good for consumers.

Does not matter how he bent it as he tried to bend them all in the same manner, which tells you as a consumer far more than Apple saying we decided it was fine on our test machine.

Unless he has a way to quantify the force being applied to each phone, his video proves absolutely nothing.

Rubbish, nonsense.

thats like saying without am empirical measure, that pushing people off a cliff proves nothing as per the damage.

wise up.

The large sweeping attack at engineers wasn't necessary.

Few in this thread seem to understand how QA testing works. It's easy for people to sit behind keyboards and say "it should be tested exactly like real life". Well, that's just not scientific. It's not precisely repeatable and measurable. When something inevitably slips through the cracks, you go back and figure out how to catch a problem like that next time.

It just goes to show that perception is everything and facts are worthless.

One unscientific YouTube video, and society went tits up.

Oh well, its an Apple product launch. It wouldn't be complete without some kind of 'issue' being flogged all over the media for hits and for commenters to feast on.

nonsense.

Ask the news media

Ask APPLE

Ask ANY COMPANY .............

perception MATTERS, mere implication from a handful of occurrences carries ENORMOUS WEIGHT.

All religion is UNSCIENTIFIC TWADDLE

However it controls about 70% of the "goings on" on Planet Earth

and controls far far far far MORE than that.

Now, ask again about that "unscientific test" Wise up
