Well yes and no.
1. Camera for taking photos would have been ridiculous - can you imagine the crowds gathering laughing at a dork who takes photos with a camera ten inch in size?
This I agree with 100%. I don't think people are thinking clearly when they ask for a camera in this device. IPad might have a use for a web cam but that is a different discussion.
Note I'm not affraid to carry around big Cameras, in fact I use to go hiking with an RZ67. The thing here of course is the big pay off that one got with a 6x7 negative. IPad with it's ten inch screen coupled to a cell phone camera would be such a joke that I might die laughing.
Coupling iPad to a 50 mega pixel sensor and the optics to illuminate it would be a different story. Especially with shift and tilts.
2. USB ports: Yeah, great. I'll carry my external hard drive with me, that makes it soooo easy to carry the iPad around. The problem is not putting USB ports into the iPad, the problem is how do you use the iPad when there are all kinds of cables hanging off it with all kinds of devices attached? For connecting to other devices, use WiFi. For transmitting/receiving data, use mail.
Now you are as wrong as you where right above. A USB port (standard connector) would be extremely useful. Some times with wires and sometimes without. The thought here is a device to run around a plant to do calibrations, hook up to RS232 ports, log data and in general be a aid to keeping a plant running.
3. Multitasking: Well, I guess you are better at designing user interfaces than Apple is, so obviously you know better.
Actually I think Apple will figure this one out. There are a number of good reasons to support multitasking but obviously iPad can't be plugged up with hundreds of processes. So I see Apple forcing people to make a choice.
The point is that if Apple had wanted to create a netbook, they would have created a netbook. They didn't because they wanted to create something different. If you want to buy a netbook, go ahead and buy one. There are plenty of companies selling them. Apple isn't one of them.
Exactly! This is something many don't grasp, the iPad is built with certain use cases in mind. Obviously it can't handle something it wasn't designed for. You don't go out and buy an John Deer tractor to cruise the highways of America, thus it makes no sense to complain about its speed.
That is all well good but within the domain Apple has staked out there is room for improvement. The biggest boner here was to little flash storage and no ports to effectively expand that storage. That is another function that a USB port could serve or for that matter a SD port.
It is nothing these days for an SD card to hold room for a couple movies or a seasons worth of TV shows. Being able to make use of such storage freems up a considerable amount of room in the main store for programs and app data.
