Can anybody please explain why people like them? The EarPods have absolutely atrocious audio quality. Very tinny. How can these possibly be any better?

Impossible. They don't have capacitive touch sensitivity.
The tapping gesture is making use of a solid state accelerometer.

I agree with you though. I want to see an update with:
Tap twice right - volume up
Tap twice left - volume down

Having said that I find that I use my Apple Watch crown mostly for volume control and it works very well.

I love my AirPods.

What they should do in the next firmware update is add the following if the can:-

Hold finger on left AirPod and volume slowly decreases.
Hold finger on right AirPod and volume slowly increases.

They just are. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I expected them to sound the same, but they do in fact sound a good deal less tinny, yet more detailed and well-rounded compared to my ~2 year old EarPods. Not saying they'll impress audiophiles of course. But despite the fact that the high frequencies can still sound slightly too piercing for my taste, although not necessarily uncomfortably so, I would say that I can enjoy the sound they produce for anything but critical listening, and certainly prefer it over the EarPods' whose sound I tire of quickly.

Totally! Have you sent them feedback on this? This’d be a great update.

Idk they’re both headphones, I thought it was a fair comparison. That’s interesting that they sound better than EarPods, I assumed it was the same tech but with a W2 chip.

In my opinion those little white things sticking out of ears can look really weird. Especially with some people’s ear shape where they’re sticking out at 40 degree angle instead of being flat against the head. Yeah, wearing white antennae looks sci-fi and weirder than traditional headphones in my opinion.

And wearing something

That is your opinion. But my opinion of Beats are they’re ugly as ****. People wear them to show off or to match with their outfit. Most of the time they’re hanging around their necks, and when worn over their ears in public they appear to look like jackasses. Not to mention the people who wear them in gyms that looks stupid as heck. I bet they smell like ass afterwards too.

I don't think they have a mechanism for allowing such gestures. It's only the movement as a result of tapping them that is detected right now.

If you were planning to purchase AirPods as a last-minute holiday gift, it may be challenging to find a pair in time for Christmas.

Apple's wireless earphones are currently estimated for delivery in early January if ordered today from Apple's online store in the United States, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom, and several other countries.

AirPods are also currently out of stock at most of Apple's retail stores around the world, and at authorized resellers such as Best Buy, Macy's, Target, Walmart, and Verizon in the United States. Bottom line: they're hard to find anywhere.

At $159, AirPods are a more affordable gift idea than many Apple products, which may be causing stronger demand than Apple can keep up with.

If you are still hunting for AirPods, there may be one option. AT&T appears to have stock on its website, but you may have to pay an extra $14.95 for express delivery within 2-3 business days, and there is no guarantee they'll arrive before Christmas.

Other gifts available by Christmas for under $200, and that an Apple fan is likely to appreciate, include the Apple TV 4K, BeatsX, an official Apple-branded iPhone case, Apple Watch bands, or simply an Apple Store or Apple Music gift card.

Apple's online store is now offering free next-day delivery for all in-stock items ordered by 3 p.m. local time on December 22 in the United States.

That's okay, I'm waiting for the sleeker, more powerful AirPod PROs due out soon. They're rumored to have the same features, be the same shape, size, and weight, but be 150% more Appley!

They'll be available in MANY colors, Space-Gray, Rose-Gold, and of course, White. To Apple, that's MANY. Naturally, being AirPod PROs, they'll cost vastly more, but they figure, you're already buying their overpriced headphones, for a deficient iPhone you were dumb enough to buy, (being much more expensive, and having fewer features than its predecessors,) so you'll be stupid enough to waste your money buying this, because building giant structures they don't need to make their own lives better, on some of the most expensive land on the planet, is what Apple DOES.

Apple. The company that used to make great computers, and that is now a cellphone company that also makes headphones. And for now, computers.

Me too. I use the Apple Watch crown for volume up and down. It's just so EASY!

Glad they're working on an update to the now several-years-out-of-date Mac Mini that they claim is an important part of their strategy, and which they're going to quietly discontinue then immediately declare obsolete, if they haven't already done so, and not trivial, frivolous things like headphones and 'smart' speakers... Oh, wait, no. This story has nothing to do with the Mac Mini.

But then again, neither does Apple, anymore.

Whenever I see someone wearing these I just think they look dorky. Just don’t really get the allure of them — just EarPods without wires and with the same mediocre sound. I picked up a pair of Studio 2s for a little more than the price of AirPods but they don’t look stupid and they sound amazing.

I get where you’re coming from. Maybe it depends on the angle at which we see someone wearing them?

Consider the following:

Elegant.

Dorky.

I tried them at launch, but less than a month in I found they’re worthless if your activity levels are anything more than walking or sitting, which is perfect, since most people do only that. I ended up giving them away.

I prefer my black PowerBeats3, not to mention the battery life. Still has a W1 chip, too!

Not just that. The angle at which the stem points away from or towards the face also depends on the person and their bone structure + amount of body fat (no offence to anyone):

All that show is they look elegant on an elegant person, and dorky on a dorky person.
So therefore, its the person, not the AirPods.

Get a picture of the same person wearing them at different angles and then decide.

Personally I love mine and don't care what other people think of them!

The photo of the guy was from was a CNET review. For what it’s worth, there is also a side photo of him wearing them and it didn’t look dorky to me. So at least for me, I think it depends on the angle.

BTW, I don’t mind dorky at all. In fact, as I said on page 2 I can’t wait to use them in a week!:)

I’m sure I’ll look dorky too lol.

If a person were to come up from behind and simultaneously remove both Pods and escape. Would the iPods be rendered useless? Do they only work with authorized devices? Can this be circumvented by discharging them completely? :apple:

Not all that long ago I started running again after a 50 year interval. I had an Apple Watch, but had to bring a phone and use my wired headphones. Now it is just a new Series 3 Watch and my wonderful AirPods. Pure Heaven. Apple keeps making wonderful products (and the iPhone X is worth every penny).
