Can anybody please explain why people like them? The EarPods have absolutely atrocious audio quality. Very tinny. How can these possibly be any better?

The dorky look plus having to deal with ANOTHER device I have to keep charged is why I chose the Pioneer Rayz Plus instead. The sound quality might be better than the EarPod, but I also have concerns about how easy it is to lose one of them.

This was all of a sudden. New version is coming out soon. Nothing to do with popularity.
If they do come out with a new version that sounds better, I’ll be mad, but damn I’ll want them.

If a person were to come up from behind and simultaneously remove both Pods and escape. Would the iPods be rendered useless? Do they only work with authorized devices? Can this be circumvented by discharging them completely? :apple:
Nope. Just have to put them in a battery case, hold the back button to reset, open the case and the W1 chip looks for a nearby device to pair with.

I hope they release an updated version which fixes bidirectional sound quality somehow.

I’ve seen a fair few discounts on AirPods over the last couple of weeks in the UK in the countdown to Christmas £119/£129/£139.

Also, isn’t HomePod is supposed to be “early 2018” launch? Would it be a surprise if the HomePod, Wireless Charging Case and Air Power all launched at the same time?

And wearing something

That is your opinion. But my opinion of Beats are they’re ugly as ****. People wear them to show off or to match with their outfit. Most of the time they’re hanging around their necks, and when worn over their ears in public they appear to look like jackasses. Not to mention the people who wear them in gyms that looks stupid as heck. I bet they smell like ass afterwards too.
I don't intend to wear them whilst I work out. I don't believe in listening to music or distracting myself whilst working out. I do intend on wearing them whenever I'm on a plane (which happens quite a lot for me) and I've found that EarPods, and thus AirPods, hurt my ears after a while wearing them and obviously aren't noise canceling like Studios. I didn't mean for this to become a larger debate about in-ear pods vs headphones.

Airpods: the “flop” that keeps on giving.

Flop? They are hugely popular. I think the sound is fantastic, the ease of use so much better than any other wireless headset, and they are light and easy to keep in your pocket. Flop....sorry.....just plain wrong. I see them all the time walking around D.C. and in lots of airports that I travel.

You missed the point. The OP put the word "flop" in quotes, meaning they are mocking those who erroneously call the product a flop.

Let me guess: you're "asking for a friend." :D

Ah..OK. I did watch that game (Yahoo Survivor Contest.. still alive!). when I saw them they definitely stand out. But when a good looking athlete is sporting them (while also wearing some pretty pricey diamond earrings)... it looks OK. it's like how a $200,000 Ferrari can get away with colors (like yellow) that no other car could look good in.

Costco recently had them for $140. I recall another warehouse seller -- Sam's maybe? Had them at a discount too. Wondering if Apple is getting ready to push out the update AirPower compatible case. I'm not surprised they are selling but something like this should not be selling out. That's poor planning on Apple's part if it wasn't by design, i.e., depleting inventory to ready for the update.

Curious how they construct these with no seams to insert the electronics and drivers through? Is it possible to mold the plastic around a finished unit directly?

I think the BeatsX is a much better balance between convenience and sound quality. I can’t use any non in-ear earphones. It doesn’t fit well in the ear, so too much noise comes in and I need to turn up the volume too much.

The BeatsX has good sound isolation but does not completely shut off outside noises (for safety). It also has the W1 chip for quick pairing with iOS devices.

Hint: glue
Tonnes of glue.

Another news article playing on Apple’s hype of running out. These are available at almost every major retailer in the Twin Cities (Minneapolis) including Best Buy and target. Definitely not running out for Christmas. I’m sure every other major city is just like mine. Don’t panic because you’re read something like this.

Just checked Best Buy here in San Diego, the website reports they are not available anywhere within 250 miles. Doesn't sound like hype to me.

Edit to add I just checked Best Buy for zip code 55101 (St Paul, MN), they are also reporting no stock within 250 miles, so I call BS.

It’s not just any ice though. It’s Apple Ice. Therefore you’ll pay a premium but it’s worth every penny due to the thinner, faster and lighter design of the ice. Johnny Ive and his team spent minutes formulating the magical design of the ice in order to deliver the best ice experience penguins could ever hope to achieve. Until next year when Apple Ice 2 is released featuring a redesigned IceOS interface.

That sounds awesome. Count me in for some Apple Ice. #takemymoney

Why should anybody take the time to explain to you why they like them?
This thread is full of peoples reasons, both for and against.
Why do you need "special handling"?
If you really wanted the answers you'd read the thread.
