iPhone X Apple is losing its mainstream, non-fan core with the X

Man walks into the Skittles forum. Tells everyone, "Hey, I don't like Skittles anymore, I really like Starburst better."

People in the Skittles forum go, "I guess that's good for you, but was it really necessary to create a thread about it?"

Actually that scenario works great. I love it when people inform me about something that might be even better based on their experiences. Unless, that is, you have chosen to go through life with a closed mind.

I don’t think that is the public perception at all and I’ve never heard anybody outside of scrabbling on a forum suggest that.

Apple has been behind the curve and following Androids lead in terms of features for some years now. I happen to think Apple copy but do a better job but they sit back and observe trends rather than setting them these days. Android in my opinion is less refined due to the sheer amount of devices using the platform, but it’s far from weak and manufacturers are producing some very good quality hardware. Samsung for instance have been matching Apple for quality since the S6 and it’s the main reason phones like the S7, S8 and Note 8 are big contenders in the market.

iPhone owners could care less about Android, we have no idea what an S7 or a Note 8 are.

All we know about Android is that they give them away for free to people who sign a two year contract with one of the budget carriers.

You are trying to speak on behalf of all iPhone owners yet again and you don’t speak for me at all with that kind of narrow mindedness.

You come from a world where your image is obviously very important to you and showing your wealth makes you feel good. You’ve said so much when you stated you get a buzz out of projecting your ‘better’ car over people who drive cheaper models when you pull into a space. I’m a normal family man and am well past all that rubbish and I’ve never met an iPhone user in the real world who brags so much about the self belief of being superior. Maybe I’m a mug for continuing this with you here? I think I’ve learned more about you in the last 24 hours and you clearly have a motive here. I’m nearly done I think.

I had missed his post, # 433, so went back and read it. I have learned over time to give little credence to those who try and speak for me, and make all encompassing definitive statements.
I'm like you, just a guy trying to make his way in the world. I consider myself a "core Apple iPhone Customer" having owned the very first one Apple released. Heck I even stood outside the AT&T store to get one of the first ones and was interviewed by the local TV station. I have owned an iPhone since Verizon got the iphone, (yes I had to return the AT&T iPhone, terrible reception at our house). I pinch pennies. I didn't get to this point by wasting all my money, except on cars :) . I like technology, I like smart phones and am fully immersed in the Apple ecosystem, but bragging about it? Nope.
So, just so you know, you aren't the only one that thinks as you do.

If you look at our posts in the past 24 hours you'll see that the only thing that sets you off is coming face to face with an iPhone owner that doesn't know or care about anything related to Android. The minute I tell you I don't know anything about an S8 or a Galaxy whatever you think you're being trolled. You're not. You're being enlightened.

In New York City we have two baseball teams. The Yankees are legendary, the Mets are also-rans. The Mets fan spends all his time obsessed with the Yankees and praying for the day he can one-up their fans. The Yankees fan spends all his time paying attention to the Yankees and doesn't know a thing about the Mets. They simply don't care about the second-rate team in the same town. When faced with a Mets fan trying to discuss a Mets vs. Yankees rivalry, the Yankees fan looks at the Mets fan like he has two heads as there is no rivalry. The Mets fan can't comprehend this because of his obsession with the Yankees and trying so hard not to be the second-rate also-ran in the same town. Yankee fans walks away without giving it a second thought, the Mets fan obsesses over the situation for a month.

I’m not here to defend Android as I’m not a user of it and haven’t been for more than 5 years. I know enough about it in its current guise to know it’s not crap though. You claim here not to know or care about Android, yet bring it up constantly to belittle it much like your comparison here to a Mets fan doing the same with the Yankees. You can’t make wild claims about it being a ‘cheap knockoff’ when you admit yourself not knowing anything about it? It’s absurd. So yes I realised what you were doing and it’s not just Android. You have belittled other iPhone users too and mocked them for not being able to afford the X so you’re not exactly covering yourself in glory. You’re being deliberately provocative and I don’t know whether you actually hold those views or are just sat back laughing your head off at the fact you’re getting a reaction?

Then there is this horrendously pompous post you made:

Good post.

But in the big picture, the core Apple iPhone consumer isn't interested in pinching pennies. Hell, we like having a more exclusive iPhone to separate us from those who are stuck in 7's and 8's and Pluses. Who do you think buys all those Mercedes, BMW's, and Range Rover's anyway? We like it when we pull into a parking space next to a Kia. We like it when people admire our Rolexes. It's nice after all these years to whip out an iPhone and have the other iPhone users around us take notice and bathe us in attention.

Apple is a luxury brand and the X is it's status symbol. The vertical camera and the notch tell the world on both sides of the product that it's not your mom's iPhone 6. Couldn't be more happy.
I didn’t know whether to laugh or what when I read this? Are you for real mate? I wish this could be permanently attached at the top of the threads to remind people there others out there that really are like you.

Everybody likes a brand but you sound like you think you’re really something when you’re showing off. Believe me, people are looking at you for very different reasons to your perception. You may think people are admiring you in your Range Rover when you snigger at them in their Kia’s as you swan off flashing your Rolex and holding your iPhone X, but I guarantee they are also having a laugh. Then again this could be your online persona.

So yes I think I’ve been played here or you really are just one of these elitist iPhone users that add to the stereotype and give the rest of us a bad name.

More than 24 hours on I’ve learned a bit more and hold my hands up, I was wrong. I retract my original reply to you.

The underdog can sometimes come up and suprise you. If you follow soccer in the United Kingdom. Manchester United were the pride of Manchester. As fans we we didn’t even think about Manchester City because they were at one time not even in the premier league. Now they one of the best if not the best teams in the premier league and Manchester United fans do need to think about them.

If it wasn’t for the ecosystem of Apple hardware working seamlessly together my phone would be an S8.

Yeah there’s a few things keeping me on the iPhone, most notably my Apple Watch. I love how I can answer my phone on it and get messages across my watch, phone and iPad. I love photo stream as it’s the main source of photo sharing within my family. FaceTime and Find Friends are apps I use daily too and are all Apple only features.

If I thought I could get all those and convert nearly everybody I know, I’d give Samsung another go. I certainly think Android is improving at a faster pace than iOS. I feel iOS 11 is the worst release since I’ve been on iPhone and have been pestered with bugs and battery drain for months now. I think Androids appeal could boom in the future. A couple of people I work with are trying Android for the first time this year and are already converted. It’s no longer the inferior OS it once was but I am stuck for now.

Yea I tried the S8 for 2 weeks and it’s a fantastic device. I also tried the Pixel and it’s a good device too. Like you said it’s not an inferior OS.

If I’m comparing phones I have to say that there are better phones than the iPhone or at least as good as the iPhone. Like you the Apple Watch works seamlessly with my iPhone and my iPad and visa versa such as iMessages, photo stream etc. Android / Google doesn’t have an ecosystem like that.

I don’t view me as being stuck in the Apple ecosystem. I view myself being in an ecosystem that’s better than Android / Google. I believe this is a proven fact.

But another fact IMO if I’m honest when comparing phones there are other phones that are better than the iPhone. There’s no denying it. Those that are bashing Android in this thread I bet haven’t tried the S8 or other flagships.

Realsatire.

Those that are defending the iPhone are completely wrong. You can’t defend it cause there are as good as or better phones than the iPhone. There’s no denying this. For a fan boy this is a hard swallow.

What you / need to promote and defend is the ecosystem. Well there’s nothing to defend, the Apple ecosystem is a superior ecosystem. It’s just Apple doesn’t have the best phone.

I would agree with this whole heartedly. I might have ended up with the iPhone X but from an objective stand point the note 8 and the S8 are better phones than the iPhone X.

Yep. The topic of this thread has to do with ‘Apple is losing non fan core with the iPhone X’ right?

The non fan core base most likely isn’t concerned about ecosystems which is OK. They aren’t concerned about any other hardware working with their phone and visa versa and that’s OK nothing wrong with it.

Again if you aren’t concerned about an ecosystem then there are other phones that are better than the iPhone. Yea I a fan core person and I’m admitting there are other phones better than the iPhone.

More than 24 hours on I’ve learned a bit more and hold my hands up, I was wrong. I retract my original reply to you.
lol, thank you.

One of my biggest realizations this year was that a lot of people are closed minded. Many people go into a conversation with their minds made up and have no intention of changing their thoughts. To be honest, I should have realized this decades ago but you live an you learn. The telltale sign of said people is an inability to apologize or admit fault, which is evident when they are logically inconstant. The consistency in being contrarian, saying anything to always be right.

Only one trolling around here is you. You like to declare opposing arguments are not objective but you never elaborate or back up your points. It would be really cool if you stopped the name calling and actually made a lucid point. Peace m8.

Because my post is self-evident. If you have the maturity to understand what I wrote then you'll get it. If not, you'll probably just argue with me regardless of what I write.

But since you asked. The idea that people who don't own an iPhone X and are unhappy with it are just jealous of iPhone X owners is absurd. It's based on an incredibly self-centered mentality that fails to understand that different people have different tastes or expectations of value.

For me personally, I could purchase an iPhone X and I have tried twice but I just couldn't pull the trigger.

1) It's heavy.
2) It's hard to use one-handed.
4) Notch means watching full-screen views gives effectively the same screen real estate as iPhone 8.
3) Swiping up to close apps is horrible.

For me the value isn't there and to dismiss anything I say as jealous is preposterous.

The "mainstream" are recipients of $0 iPhone's circa 2014 whining about it in 2017 and blaming Apple because the only free phones they can get now are crappy Android's on budget networks, as if Apple had anything to do with it.

I never believed a phone was free it was just all inclusive in the contracts 2 year overall cost... why are they thinking they are getting it heavily subsidized or low cost upfront startles me honestly...

Just do some simple math. Monthly cost of plan x 24

topkek, rofl. the ego. That sounds like something an abusive boyfriend would say.

I’m an iPhone owner that says you’re talking rubbish. I know what Android is, and I know the majority of mainstream/flagship Android devices.

All we know about Android is that they give them away for free to people who sign a two year contract with one of the budget carriers.

Pure and utter bovine excrement. Show me one link where a Galaxy S8+, Note 8 or Xperia XZ Premium is given away free on budget plans.

It certainly doesn’t happen in most of the world, that’s for sure.

You’re either a top class troll or a total embarrassment to any iPhone owner...

On an enthusiast forum, sure. Not in the real world. iPhone users are happy, never needed Android, view them as cheap knockoffs, wouldn’t be caught dead with one. That’s what goes on outside of enthusiast forums.

This offer is being advertised all over TV, you can’t escape the commercials for crappy free Android phones this Christmas. No surprise they have to give them away to compete with iPhone. That’s what cheap knockoffs are for.

iPhone owners COULDN’T care less - Edited for accuracy.

Could care less implies there is still some caring left which is not the intention of the saying. It is a saying which originated in Britain(I’m British) .

Most iPhone owners I know choose the iPhone because of familiarity, not because they are elitist technology snobs.

It’s actually mostly on tech forums you find that sort of mentality where posters care enough to troll users of other devices purporting themselves as superior because they’ve paid more for a mobile phone. They are in a minority and often get laughed off the boards by real tech enthusiasts who have more knowledge on the topic.

Yea but they aren’t flag ship phones like the S8, Note8 Pixel 2.

You should heed your own words and stop trolling iPhone owners in their forum.

Who can tell? They all look the same.

Point is, free Android iPhone knockoffs are available everywhere. A buttered roll costs more than an Android.
