I'm not telling you anything. I'm not privy to the power management algorithms. You are the one forming a conclusion with inconclusive data.

Right. Profits and stock price first. That's how apple got to be almost a trillion dollar company, because they are a profits first organization. They make it look easy, it leaves one wondering why all companies don't follow this type of management. /s

It's a pity to see Apple go from being an innovative company that delivered quality both on hardware and software, to only think about the next quarter results.

I live in Norway where The Government Pension Fund Global owns 0.9% of Apple, and this fund is owned by the country residents, meaning every resident has an ownership stake in Apple of about $ 4000 so I really want Apple to succeed.
I know someone who works there and have of course them about this possible new dieselgate scandal, perhaps they can put some pressure on Apple to do the right thing.

At least they did it following the Paradise Paper's scandal where it turned out that Apple paid 0.005% tax in Europe, the Government Pension Fund sent Global Letter to Apple where they sent a clear message about what the fund expects from the companies in terms of tax and openness.

The Fund do this because they as a long-term investor are concerned about Apple's reputation.
Tim Cook and those around him have option agreements that end in the next quarter and are not necessarily as long-term.

Should customers be willing to pay extra for the brand, it must be because you are behind the values that this company represents.

And it does not get any better after-Tim Cook praised China's vision of the future of the Internet when he spoke to Chinese people last week. The language prompted Western experts and activists to shake their heads.

Even Bloomberg is critical https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-12-04/cook-kisses-the-ring

China's vision of the future of the internet makes George Orwell 1984 look like a walk in the park.

The only thing that helps is to vote with your wallet, that's the only thing these companies care about. This means I've finished Apple after this scandal.

Lol, Sure the choice between a dead un throttled phone or live slower phone seems clear to me no matter how much attempt is made to make this something it’s not.

Nice strawman argument. Limiting the choices to those two options lol. The choice people want is for Apple to replace the defective battery under an expanded recall.

iPhones before the iPhone 6 didn't need this software cheat to throttle the cpus.

Interesting viewpoint and thanks for a thought-out reply.

The only item in your post I really disagree about is the first sentence, which comes across as so many other "profits first" posts; which if anyone read Peter Drucker, they would know that mentality really doesn't work for modern companies.

As for the rest, I have no problem with apple or any other company minimizing their tax liabilities within the guidelines of the laws. I don't care if apple is in bed with China or India. Apple is so big and far flung, many opinions of the company and management abound in print and in blogs on the internet. Doesn't mean anyone of these is correct or true.

I frankly cannot buy anymore Samsung branded products because as bad as some people believe apple is and that they are falling from grace, Samsung imo, is the epitome of a bad company. The only phone I would buy would be a pixel.

However that won't happen in the near term as I want to pick up an iphone X.

But it is interesting to trade views with people who are not US centric.

People ask me why I keep buying iPhones despite having continual problems with them. The reality is there is no such thing as voting with your wallet. Apple’s going to do what Apple’s going to do. I am sure there were many who didn’t buy the X to oppose Apple and their high prices. Result- Apple to introduce an even higher priced model next year.

Samsung’s phones started catching fire and they are still doing extremely well by Android standards. If they can get away with a exploding battery, this battery fiasco is just small time for Apple and voting with your wallet will achieve nothing.

They probably did a cost benefit analysis and the conclusion arrived at was the loss in revenue was lesser than the cost to be incurred recalling and refunding the wrongly charged customers and hence they aren’t bothered to fix the problem.

The reality is people whose batteries are worn down and who drain quickly, are claiming they are being throttled by apple to save battery life as part of some planned obsolescence maneuver; that's the strawman. No doubt apple will replace batteries as needed provided they meet the eligibility criteria.

As for phones prior to the 6, people were complaining about battery life from the get go. IMO, apple has refined and continues to refine it's power management algorithms to provide the longest battery life possible; maybe at the expense of speed.

So I can expect my $1200 iPhone X A11 Bionic to perform like an A9 2 years from now?

Right, there's nothing like pissing off your customer base to guarantee future product purchases and hence revenue.

How would I (or anyone) know an answer to a question like that? Perceptually the answer could be yes as in two years there will be an a14 bionic.

No because that’s what’s being said by you . It’s normal for A9 to perform like an A8 and an A10 to perform like an A9 thanks to advanced power management algorithms?

Are you now saying that when A14 Bionic launches the A11 Bionic will benchmark lesser then what it does today and this is normal?

For a customer to be pissed off he must know he is being ripped off in the first place. Outside of the world of web forums and geeks I doubt anyone has purchased the Geekbench 4 app and yet they are using a phone slower than what it should be. Of course some have still paid for a new battery probably out of ignorance.

The new power management algorithms seem to prioritize battery life over speed. Seems rational. A dead unthrottled phone is useless.

So you subscribe to the “customers are uninformed idiots” school. That’s a straw man as is the remainder of your post.

What's the point of having a fast CPU if it's going to throttle to half speed any time the battery drops below 100?

You really believe the average customer out there will link battery Wear and slowdown? Do all Apple customers even know how battery Wear can be measured?

What the point of having an intel chip with power management then? Straw man argument.

No I’m pretty sure the average consumer will not be having the same angst as the extreme power management is probably only applicable to a small percentage of users(IMO) and most users want a functioning phone.

Intel's chips do not throttle to below half speed on high performance PCs

Your theory falls flat because this advanced power management is apparently being executed on a section of iPhones. My devices aren't throttling and one of my devices has a worne out battery

If you are going to take care of the brand and be able to take a higher price than the competitor, it is not just enough to follow the law, you must do the right thing.
With its financial power, Apple can certainly have a country in Africa to change the law, so it became legal to use slave workers, or parts of childrens hearts in their batteries.
Technically, they do not break the law, but everyone knows it is morally wrong, and if you continue to buy products from such a company, you contribute to suffering in the world.
Then I guess the Apple logo will be as popular as the swastika, only liked by a very small group of die hard fans.

Just curious, why would you buy a Pixel over a Samsung phone. I understand the software can be superior but they aren't close to Samsung in displays and their Pixel 2 XL has given the brand a bad name. And why is Samsung a bad company?

Pixel us designed by google a US company and as it is said runs unskinned android. I don’t focus on displays but I suppose a bad oled can be worse than lcd. Without turning this into PRSI there are other manufacturers I would buy from first.

Without turning this into PRSI Samsung has gone far worse than Apple. But comparing a symbol of hate to the logo of a tech company is over the top.

Why have power management at all then when you gave a chip on power. You brought up Intel.

You don’t know the underlying algorithms as I don’t. I’m conjecturing an alternate scenario.

I agree it was crossing the line, but the apple should take better care of the brand so they do not spoil it.

If I pay $1200 for a phone and so does someone else and if both our phones have similar levels of wear after 2 years, you don't think its unfair his phone is half speed of my phone?

After two years if it's battery or speed, I'll take battery any day, if it's my phone.
The current scenario which is happening is at the exact same level of battery wear, one iPhone is throttling, one is not. Note at the exact same level of battery wear

Could be a bug in power management that will be resolved; or there are other internal indicators the software has access to that we don't.
