Just sit back and enjoy the mental gymnastics, I'm sure someone will soon explain to us why this is exactly the kind of decisions Apple should make for the dumb consumers. Worth every cent!
So the "dumb consumers" phones won't shut off when they might need to make that "one" phone call?

I have a newer iOS downloaded on my phone. I‘m just leaving it there. Is that ok? I’m not installing it. It’s been there for awhile I think.

Yeah as long as you successfully defer it 100% of the time whenever it prompts asking if you wanna do it.

How possible is it to never update? I’m thinking of doing the same. Have 11.1.2 on my 8 and runs good.

If I change my battery in the future will I have to update?

If you get a new battery in the future, you should be able to update to the latest OS and have full power. So why not just update now and replace the battery when needed? At least you can enjoy the benefits of regular updates.

Eh. Personal preference

IF I had a worn battery w good performance as is and not many enticing features I’d stay put.

Why get a half performance experience

Ahhh so much to think about.

This has become a huge drama imo lol.

And I’m kinda stressed.

I DO NOT want my iPhone to get slow. I got the 256 gb version plus Apple care plus and also cases.

Spent a lot of money, as did pretty much anyone with an iPhone.

This is not fun :/

I'm trying man. It's just depressing to think that my iphone will potentially get slow unless i make tough decisions such as not updating the software, or making sure to monitor my battery health, running geek bench to see what's going on, then worrying whether or not apple will change the battery which I think they do after a diagnostic if bad but maybe they won't if it doesn't show up bad in the diagnostic? idk :/

EDIT: and then if i don't update the software what if it there's security flaws and viruses or something get on it...

i wish we could just update without all these worries

Why likely? It might potentially, just like many things might happen with it potentially. Use your device as you need it and go on with life.

Potentially. i changed it. But still this whole thing is too much for me. But I know I’ll end up caving and buying a new phone. iPhones have become an expensive habit for me.

Still wrong.

...will get slow unless...

Fixed for ya. ;)

Realistically it's actually "could be" rather than "is". And can apply to 6/6+/6s/6s+/SE as of iOS 10.2.1, and 7/7+ as of iOS 11.2.
I don't want to play with could be's when I pay almost a thousand bucks for the iPhone 7 plus. If your iPhone 7 is on iOS 10 it will not throttle. That's a guarantee. So why take the risk and upgrade to 11? It's not like iOS 11 has better battery life iOS 10.

If those phones were kept on the original iOS version they would not have throttled. So basically Apple is destroying older phones, making it slower, not informing the user and the user will buy a new phone instead of thinking the battery is at fault. According to Apple's logic throttling will increase battery life but slow down the phone. The user will not know the battery is at fault as Apple will make it last a day. However the phone will be slow thereby inducing him to get a new phone. Planned obsolescence officially acknowledged by Apple when they admitted to throttling.

Jimply reverting to iOS 10 wouldn't really apply as these things weren't introduced with the release of iOS 11, and in the earlier versions that might not have these changes the affected devices would likely suffer from unexpected shutdowns.

The iPhone 7 hasn't shut down like the 6s for over a year now. What makes you think the phone will randomly shut down in a year?

If,you are on iOS 10 DO NOT UPDATE. It's not worth it.

You have to pay for a new battery. Why go through the extra expense when the original version works fine?[/QUOTE]

If you update the phone it will throttle and battery life will decrease. If you don't update you don't get the new design but enjoy a stable phone with full speed. I chose the latter ever since my 7 Plus battery became a steaming pile of garbage on iOS 11. Battery life of 7 hours and home button delay ruined it.

It may happen potentially if you update. It will not happen if you do not update.

I didn't say what anyone could or should decide, simply commented on the statements you made earlier in relation to something just being a given vs being a possibility.

As far as staying in earlier version, while you would perhaps avoid being throttled if your device fell under the conditions that would qualify for it, then you would still be with a device with those conditions nonetheless, but instead of being throttled you'd face sudden unexpected shut downs. So while you might avoid one thing, you might not avoid another.

Only the iPhone 6s had the problem of unexpected shutdowns. None of the other iPhones did so why should be slowed too? We already have members whose iPhone 7 were being throttled. Their phone wasn't unexpectedly shutting down on iOS 10.

Don't apply this shutdown issue to all phones. They exist only on iPhone 6s

I would like to see a class action law suit brought against apple for this. They have no right to wheelchair peoples phones like that. I always knew apple slowed down iphones - and finally they have confirmed it themselves with an official statement. Sneaky b******ds.

They tried to cover it up with a hidden software update and not come clean about it because it would mean they would have to spend money on doing a recall to upgrade peoples iphone batteries.

Apple is no different to all those greedy corps out there, this is similar to what VW did with the emission scandal cover up - used software to lie about emissions performance of cars. Here apple used software to cover up the battery performance of iphones by throttling the device.

Hmmm, something seems fishy! Apple said they introduced this feature with the iPhone 6, but people where complainig about performance after a new iOS-version since the beginning of the iPhone. Then again, there are also always complains about degraded batterylife after every update.

This is why I’m never updating :

SE 10.2

7p 10.1.1

And X 11.1.2

I hear you. My iPhone 6s is still on 10.2 and I'm not updating this thing ever. This phone is still super speedy and I feel like I can hold out for a couple years before upgrading to the next gen.

Nothing fishy about this. They have been doing this shady stuff for years. What happened was they were caught with their pants down while trying to sneak in that nefarious code into the 7 and it took them a week to come up with an excuse to spin it in their favour. The reason they were caught is also because ios 11 is such an unoptimised OS people were scouring all over it looking for a possible solution which led to the link between battery and CPU being discovered. They effectively admitted planned obsolescence exists yesterday. That’s no longer debateable. It kicks in 1 year after you buy an iPhone which is when the throttling begins on some iPhones.
