Apple Issues Invitations for iPad 3 Media Event on March 7

Here's my money apple!

Wow, that's clearly a higher res screen! (he says while viewing on his iPad 2).

You can't see the magnets for the smart cover either. This clearly means they're using a magnet-free "invisible cover"

I can't wait!

Have you ever even handled an iPad 2 in your life? If you have, then you have failed terribly at somehow visualizing a smart cover magnet simply by looking at the unit. FAIL!

When you look at the distance between the Icons then you will see that the iPad on the picture is in landscape mode. I turned my iPad in landscape and hold it in the same angle like the pic then u see that it's in landscape orientation.

However, there are a few strange things here.

- Apple mentioned "And Touch" ....
- Taken a pic of that section of the iPad really would make no difference when you have the iPad vertical or horizontal oriented. So why did Apple didn't used the iPad in the upright position? the only reason other that the home button will be removed is that the image looks better when there is more space between the icons (horizontal orientation).

And Touch could refer to new featured on the iPad.

So, Apple is either really really clever and trying to give us a hint or they just didn't thought that far....

ah and Bill Sigxxx go to work

Or.....people just try to read WAY too much into a picture.

Just throwing this out there, but if you put 6 icons in the dock and hold it in landscape, the picture looks pretty damn close as well. But that is definitely a higher-res display that the 1/2.

You can already use Siri on an iPhone 4S without the home button. Who's to say that if you lift the iPad in a certain way it will also "wake" or Siri will ask what you want. I've used hand gestures in lieu of the home button on my iPad 1 (since they finally gave it back to us) for some time now and I love it. I'm fine with no home button, BUT I wonder if this picture is actually in landscape with 6 icons and not 5.

I didn't read the +950 comments but I have a question:

Do any of you know if...

...there's a place on the web where we can see a streaming video of the event?
...what time will it be held?

Thank you! I'd love to see the event :)

Where we're going we don't need home buttons.

- gestures?!!

Well I just hope iPhone 5 has such major announcements in the pipe.

I don't believe that Apple streams live video of the event and I'm not even sure that they release video after the fact. MacRumors generally reports on the event live.

The event begins at 10 am Pacific Time, which translates to 7 pm in Switzerland.

If they want significant Apple TV adoption, they should sell it bundled with the iPad. That way you could get everyone "trained" for the release of the Apple iTV big screen next year.

I don't see any sign that an actual full-scale iTV will make it's debut any time soon...too early, we would have seen the rumor build-up going sky high...
then again, no one knew about Mountain Lion until last week, so Apple CAN keep secrets these days it seems.

Might it be possible that the rumored price increase is due to that bundling?

Yes, pure speculation. But then again, so is much of this thread. :D

Apple does release video after the event -- just go to iTunes and subscribe to Apple Keynote podcasts. Apple's main web page also has links to streams in three resolutions.

They always, always have the video to watch afterwards - usually posted within a few hours after the event finishes. All the past ones for iPad, iPad 2 announcement etc are on iTunes in the Apple Events podcast. Sometimes they have the video stream available to watch live directly from Apple's site.

Typically (this is Apple so I use the world lightly) there is no live stream but nearly every major tech blog does live blog w/ pics. (Exception being Gizmodo, which may still be on Apple's s-list and not at the event). Hours after the end of the even Apple posts video.

I think we need an "Update" at the end of the article:
"buttonless iPad?"

But there is nothing to update. The buttonless biz is pure speculation. No credible source has suggested the home button is gone.

Thank you for the time conversion :D That will avoid lazy me to make it. I'll check the different websites at the time of the event, then...

Well, then, I'll check out if there's a podcast as well...

Thanks for the answers!

The iPad in the invitation picture was taken in portrait mode, not landscape. See attached pic for proof. So it's either a no button deal or the iPad is upside down (And from the angle the photo is taken, the webcam wouldn't be seen)

...or it's just a render from an advert, which tells us nothing about whether the iPad3 is 'Home-less' or not. ;)

Certainly a possibility and would make more sense from a design point as in a render scenario and photography it makes sense to have a real photo taken with the iPad with the screen off or green screened or what ever and photoshop in a clearer render but most likely I'd imagine the render would just be a screenshot of a retina home screen. HOWEVER, in the render apple sent out there isn't the home screen page thing so you could be right. But if we think the photo is of a real iPad 3 well then I just proved it like a theorem LOL!

Wow. I just spent 6 hours reading through this thread. It's amazing how many people don't read previous posts before they post their thoughts... It would've saved me approximately 3 hours of crap. :D

On another note: Maybe MacRumors can update the article sooner next time so people who don't want to read trough 1000 posts don't post questions already answered...?

Great read! Thanks!

What I'm thinking is that it is referring to the new Apple TV.

I'm not sure how Siri (Beta) would work with a TV across the room. But there are 55 million iPads out there and most likely those people have a few TVs. What I think Apple is going to do is use the iPad as the remote (with or without Siri) to a ATV Box. Thus you have to "Touch" the iPad to "See" the TV.

I don't think most people want to go out and buy new TVs. I know I don't, but I do know Apple has a way of creating new products that everyone wants. The main problem I see with Apple selling TVs is that there stores have not been designed to hold that large of an item let alone enough to keep up with what the potential demand is.:apple:

Is it FAKE?

The iPad in the invitation picture was taken in portrait mode, not landscape. See attached pic for proof. So it's either a no button deal or the iPad is upside down (And from the angle the photo is taken, the webcam wouldn't be seen)

Am I the only one seeing this invitation as being possibly fake? The spacing on the apps looks odd - regardless of orientation of the iPad.
The other thing that's got me questioning it is the "reflections" of the hand on the device. I mean someone has simply taken the hand image and mirrored it. I don't see this being Apple. And it's sort of amateur-ish.

See image attached. (Sorry for quick chop-job. It's 1:20AM here :p )

I copied the fingers in photoshop and simply did a vertical flip and got the same look as the inviation.
I then upped the levels on image (far right) and you can clearly see the mirrored fingers and odd fading of the hand.
If you hold your iPad in the same angle as the image and hold your finger in the same position too, you'll see that your finger won't simply show up as it appears in the invitation - you'd be able to see the underside.
Then there's the weird light on the thumb's nail. o_O

Wow, really people?

They painted out the home button because it's location in the photo would be distractingly close to the text and the edge of the frame. That is all.

I agree. They also appear to have removed the magnifying glass and dots indicating which page of icons you are on. Further, the scale of the hand does not seem right and it is illuminated in a way that the light source is not coming from the iPad.

In other words, Apple have Photo-shopped out anything that distracts from the simple message that this is a Keynote presentation on the 7th March to discuss the iPad and have added in the hand pointing to the date.
