The colorful circles have sharp shadows. Kind of un-iOS 7-like.

That's what I was thinking too. I understand the colors scheme, and circles, but the shadow make it look like an amateur graphic designer that just learned about the drop shadow filter.

WWDC 2012 is my favorite of the invitations/banners. There's the iconic apple logo, created by an amalgamation of rounded cubes. The rounded cubes, which is a call back to one of Steve Jobs' most fundamental shapes, are colored in the traditional Apple rainbow with slight translucencies. This creates a sophisticated and modern take on Apple as a company moving forward. It has its roots in simplicity, but is still dynamic and sends the message of creating a user friendly purpose with technological sophistication.

What we see with, what I will call, the iPhone 5C event banner is circles, with drop shadows that harkens back to Photoshop, early 2000's when drop shadows ruled the graphic design realm. All the circles are the same size and have very similar percentage of overlap, which makes a very static image. And then there's the white circle outline, which seems out of place, but is probably to signify a certain aspect in the presentation, I hope. With iOS 7's great use of parallax graphic animation, I'm surprised they ended up on something like this.

Oh well. I'm still very excited to see what they have to bring.

And what gives with the grey rings?

There was a rumor, I believe from John Gruber, where he described the fingerprint sensor home button looking similar to previous home buttons but the etching and the border could become more shiny.

I wonder if the grey rings represent that.

Do you really think Apple will continue to sell a phone with a 3.5 inch screen and 30-pin connector as their 0$ with contract option? Doubt it.

You don't have to react in such an agitated way. As I mentioned: 'imho', iirc that means 'in my humble opinion'.
I never claimed they would continue to sell a 3.5" screen device with a 30 pin connector either. My thoughts were just that the line-up would slim down to just 5c and 5S (or whatever they will call it).

A brand new model for 0$ with contract seems odd to me, I guess we'll see next week.

iOS7 should make my 5 feel like a new phone.... right? :p

Having had it since it's beta launch I can assure you that you'll not only get a significant increase in the sheer speed of the OS, it clearly makes your phone literally all new like...

It's blazingly fast... And very smooth...

Except the animations are very slow in the betas.

Most likely in GM the animations and speed of the OS will be faster due to Apple removing the debugging headers. Which explains bad batter life and slow animations because of this CPU hogging process.

What's so exiting? The ad looks like it's for a 12 yr old girl's birthday party.

Tomorrow, Samsung is going to announce their new Galaxy Note 3. Now, that's something to get exited about!:D

Having had the beta since launch I can say that the "rings" in terms of the OS have a profound meaning. No more "clocks" while things are loading or downloading - songs etc.. However I'm just sharing an observation - rings are a critical component of the function of ios7

----------

Colors an home buttons maybe? as in Iphone 5C and new touch Home Buttons...

Clearly just like iOS7 color plays a key role in the overall layout of your screen, menus etc.. If you choose a photo with a fair amount of color for your home screen - those dominant colors are carried throught your OS experience :). It appears likely that the 5c will have matching color screens to go with their exterior shell

10.9. (in European/Germany) and OS X 10.9?

so is there any relation between the 10th of September and OS X Mavericks?
in Germany/Europe it's 10.9
I hope we will see Mavericks soon in the Mac App Store :)

What makes you think they won't? Between increased competition (that is starting to take their market share), the decreasing cost of storage and the iPad now having a 128GB option available there is nothing pointing toward Apple keeping it around.

Also, if Apple wants to get real with a 'low-cost' iPhone that won't cannibalize the sales of the premium iPhone, a la iPhone 5S, then they need to make sure the iPhone 5S is elite... Offering a larger storage capacity would emphasize the iPhone 5S is a more luxurious product than the iPhone 5C.

Will see next tuesday but i highly doubt it.

That's what I was thinking too. That the grey rings represent the fingerprint sensor - somehow.

True true.. I'm sure they'll have a new feature or two ready on release day - one not dependent on any beta

This phone is a fail on so many levels. When did Apple get into making skittles? Why would an iPhone 4/5 owner want to downgrade to powder blue? Ever hear of a case? Does this open a new market for them? Sure, perhaps. But I also think it cannibalizes high end sales to a degree. Lower margin to grab market share. Happens when companies peak or reach a saturation point. I guess once you can't find something to improve upon you can change the color and call it a new product.

Still waiting for iWatch, iTV, and retina iPad mini.

I'm sure SJ was quoted as saying that if you don't cannibalise yourself someone else will.

What are the 4 grey circles that are not the same as the rest? 4 new products/updates?
Long time lurker, first time poster. There was a rumour going around that the iPhone 5S (Or whatever it is called) would have an aluminium/silver 'ring' around the home button because of the fingerprint scanner.

Looks to me like this is a little hint of that aluminium ring around the home button :)

Just a thought... But ever since the iPhone 5C has been pretty much confirmed, I've been thinking that this could be part of a future redirection of the iPhone family.

Instead is having a flagship iPhone N and then sell iPhone N-1 and iPhone N-2 as the entry-level/PAYG options, they might change it by introducing a new iPhone N, NS and NC every year. They could even introduce them at different times during the year to maintain interest level. The iPhone N would be the flagship, the NC the low-cost version with last year's internals and the NS could be a bigger screen version of the N to cater to the bigger-screen crowd.

Now I'm not saying that's what they are doing... I'm merely suggesting this as a possibility that would kill two birds with one stone (1- satisfy the bigger-screen enthusiasts 2- keep interest and sales steadier throughout the year and counter the android devices being launched mid-cycle)
