I really cant contain myself :) I am going to have credit card in hand and the second the 64gb iPod Touch is announced that 400 dollars is gone! lol the only thing I really really hope they do is add the faster 3GS speed processor and ram so that I can run the apps faster. Also 64gb is a must as well. I could care less about the camera but the capacity and speed is what matters to me :)

Okay I'm not reading through this thread, so I'll say something I'm sure someone has already said. This pretty much confirms that there will be social networking in the next iTunes, especially Facebook integration. Since there's the "Like" button on Facebook. "It's only Rock & Roll, but we like it"

Amirite?

Ill be there only of a iPod Classic comes out at 240 or 320 GB. Then I'll be home listening to the new Beatles remasters (both Mono and Stereo) and looking at the beautiful packaging rather than hoping for bits and digital pieces of possible downloads.

How about a new Beatles Edition iPod classic, remember the U2 one? or even better a Beatles Special Edition iPod Touch

why would anyone buy the Beatles on ITunes? anyone who listens to them probably already has them on CD

Yeah! On CD! Which is the original format from when their music was first released in the 60's (and 1970).

We purists have to stick together.

Anyway......

I'm looking forward to the event. I hope that the event involves useful improvements to iTunes, and not just this social networking integration. I think (as everyone has pointed out) that we'll see upgraded iPods and no tablet.

I also don't think we'll see a Beatles announcement at this event. If the Beatles and Apple have come to an arrangement, I doubt they would announce it at the same time as the Beatles Guitar Hero game is released.

Has anyone tried to unscramble "It's Only Rock 'n' Roll, But We Like It," to see if it gives us any clues?!?!?:D

I can't help but wonder if we will see a larger touch. No change in functionality over whatever upgrades the smallers ones have, but just a bigger screen. Same pixel dimensions, just easier to handle and easier on the eyes for the smaller stuff.
Larger type with lower resolution is just as easy to read from a greater distance as smaller higher resolution type is close up. Only you don't need to hold it 10 inches from your face. A 6" screen would be perfect.
This will just tease everyone with the idea of a tablet but nothing else will be said about the tablet until sometime early next year. The speculation will continue.

^ too soon but eventually the iPod Line up will just be media tablets

Yes! The whole reason for the smaller foot print of snow leopard is so that iTunes can take up that space with it's bloated social networkness.

iTunes 64-bit, please. A speed upgrade in that would be the perfect cherry for the Snow Leopard cake.

...except for the "download generation" that doesn't buy CDs.

I'm old enough (bah) to remember the "excitement" over the Beatles on CD. That was about 17-18 years after they broke up. It was my first year in college. IIRC they only released a few albums at a time rather than the entire catalog at once. I never knew the Beatles as a actively playing band, yet I bought Abbey Road, the White Album, and a compilation of their very early stuff.

A lot of the Beatles stuff is timeless and will do well as singles on iTunes. There is a whole new generation that isn't all that familiar with the Beatles. Hey look, Elvis is older than the Beatles and he does just fine on iTunes.

That said, there will be no Beatles announcement. The invitation makes that pretty clear.

With the rockband Beatles stuff coming out it wull bring beatles music to a while new generation of kids, who may well want certain songs they like on there iPods.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic. The last thing I want in iTunes is social networking, but all signs are pointing to that. I'd rather have some features stripped out and the whole thing rewritten in cocoa and 64bit (not that there would be a lot of speed gain in 64 bit). It'd be great if iTunes went back to being a jukebox, that launched as fast as Safari. And Apple released some sort of Media center app that takes the place of all the features Apple ripped out of iTunes.

Alas, that won't happen...

If Apple makes iTunes Intel only they are removing a good 20-30% of their market.

I suppose the PPC people could keep the older version of iTunes and not have all the new bells and whistles that come with a new iTunes.

How do you work that out - given Apple's (roughly) 9 - 10% share of the home computer market, and only a percentage of these apple users using PPC, rather than intel architecture, I'd guess you're looking at more like 2 - 3 % of the iTunes user base. The upgrade won't be essential - iTunes 8 isn't going to suddenly stop working overnight. Those of us with recent hardware (is three/four years 'recent'?) want to move on. If you don't, then stay with old hardware and old software. Simple as really.

Perhaps I should have said Apple would lose 20-30% of the Apple Computer market.:)

No way. I just read through this whole thread.

Come on guys, I JUST woke up and no one else drew the same Facebook integration conclusion as me? It's so obvious...

Am I the only one that actually likes Phil Schiller giving the keynotes? I think he does a fine job. Nothing compares to Steve, but Phill seems fine to me.

I thought he did a fine job as well.

in case no one noticed, Sept. 9th is also when The Beatles' remastered back catalogue is due to be released; along with 'The Beatles: Rock Band' video game.

this is too much of a coincidence to me.

i'm speculating that Steve Jobs will appear on stage with someone from Apple Corps. and announce The Beatles on iTunes; also wouldn't surprise me if Paul and/or Ringo shows up just to glam things up. I'm guessing they left the new iTunes out of Snow Leopard for this reason.

so this is what i'm looking out for:

  • refreshed iPod line.
  • peace agreement between Apple Corps. and Apple Inc.
  • The Beatles on iTunes.
  • 64-bit iTunes.
