Google and Apple butting heads is like parents getting divorced. In the end, it's the kids who suffer the most.

Hmm,

I don't recall Google having turn-by-turn navigation. No thanks. I'll stick with you Apple. I have faith.

Uh ? Google have had turn-by-turn on Android for quite a while. The thing is, the Apple Maps front-end sucked from iOS 1 to 5 while using a much superior back-end and now they've fixed... the back-end. The problem was always the Apple front-end on top of Google Maps, not the Google back-end.

Much Ado About Nothing

Google's been mapping since the dawn of time. Apple, for a couple of years. Glitches to a brand-new system is to be expected. It'll be fixed, most will love it. We've seen this story before.

Why didn't anyone notice these issues before they released it? Doesn't Apple do any quality control on their iOS apps/programs? They should have kept the Google Maps program and added the Apple Maps program as a beta release so they could discover and fix these issues without causing too many problems for users who are now left with no Google Maps and an Apple alternative that has more holes in it than a Swiss cheese. Scott Forstall needs a kick up the arse for this mess.

This may have been answered already, but when they say, "Maps is a cloud-based solution and the more people use it, the better it will get," how do they mean? Is that the whole, adding Yelp businesses agenda? Cause that's not going to cut it.

I thought we were talking bout iPhones here ???

For everyone else: all I'm saying is, I have nothing to complain about on the maps. I actually really like it, like a few others out there.

iOS 6 is out publicly for one day and everyone is complaining about the maps already, like they really used it already.

Do you find it painful to read all this criticism? You know it's not directed at you right? It may feel that way if you've invested time, money and love in a company - only for them to do something stupid, like replacing its mapping with a half-baked app that attracts ridicule. You might feel, well, betrayed. But I say again, the criticism is not directed at you personally so there's really no reason for you to feel upset. I hope you can get over any feelings of anxiety soon.

I haven't tried the new app yet but I can tell you google's
maps are from perfect I have spent several hour driving in circles
secondary to inaccurate maps!! Give Apple a chance they are a very responsive
company that truly tries to deliver excellent products, they will eventually
surpass the quality of google maps thats how Apple rolls

Not trying the new app yet, well your In for a rude awakening.
I use maps daily for directions and to locate jobsites in order to dispatch employess with acuurate information. Apple maps fails in this task. Google maps were a true asset making me rethink my choice of communication equipment.

This ^^^
Did anyone who participated in the presentation actually USE the Map App before it was released?

You would think that they would have tested it to make sure it worked before they released it.

It's hard to test maps worldwide compared to the tens of millions who just downloaded the update yesterday. Apple has a method to support suggesting fixes in the app, something I haven't seen from Google or my $40 GPS app.

Apple has plenty of resources to fix this. Google didn't build its maps overnight, either.

Yes. We are. Google never had a Google Maps application on iPhone, unless you count Google Earth.

I know that. I don't know if you miss understood something. I'm saying I don't recall turn by turn with voice on the previous Google maps embedded within the system.

Obviously they new about all of the issues. They aren't stupid. For whatever reason, they decided to go ahead and release it anyway. You may say that it was a stupid idea to release it, but you can be sure they new what they were doing.
