If they'd announced it as a beta and included it alongside the existing map app I'd agree with you.
But they didn't. They threw the baby out with the bath water on this one.
In terms of built-in, free mapping ios6 is hobbled at present and there's no chance of a quick fix whatever apple would have us believe.
Only option - downgrade to ios5 and see if Google can provide a fig leaf map app in the near future. Also, I'm assuming iPhone 5 won't be downgradeable from ios6 so no £600 into apples's coffers from me this year.
I was looking forward to Passbook. After updating, all I can think is...meh.I suppose. Passbook feels way more thrown out there than anything else.
Kind of sad that they have to make excuses for basically the only "big" feature in iOS 6. It seems Apple is slowing inching towards a jack of all trades mentality, and the products are suffering for it. Of course, I still bought an iPhone 5, but in two years it will be interesting to see what's available.
Holy piece of *****! I used it driving through Minneapolis today and the turn by turn kept telling me to turn on cross street while I was driving down a major highway. Obviously that's not possible. It also tried to take me on the worst route (traffic wise) possibly. Siri was Beta so I get that it was supposed to be bad. What's the excuse for this being so ridiculously bad? There's no way Jobs would have released this. I was shocked how bad it was. Really? Did they even test it???
I suppose. Passbook feels way more thrown out there than anything else.
Credit Apple for coming forward and issuing a statement so soon. How many tech companies have issues with products and simple ignore them, and NEVER issue a statement, or when they do is a bogus BS statement.
I wish the Apple Logic Pro dev team were on 'lock down' until it's a vaguely usable 'pro' application again on Mountain Lion. It's been weeks of the worst paid app experience I've ever had on any OS.
Cute 3D maps don't produce commercial records for a living.
Is this the fastest a company has ever responded to a service issue? They must have gotten an INCREDIBLE amount of negative feedback.
You bet!
They really screwed on that one!
Cause they don't already?Oh, that is too funny... If that picture goes viral, Apple's going to have a major PR headache to deal with.
It's hard to test maps worldwide compared to the tens of millions who just downloaded the update yesterday. Apple has a method to support suggesting fixes in the app, something I haven't seen from Google or my $40 GPS app.
Apple has plenty of resources to fix this. Google didn't build its maps overnight, either.
This, and the Google Maps app, should be excellent.
Choice, choice, choice. Something kind of new to Apple.
Also, check out this Tumblr to see just how bad iOS 6 maps are.
Because people need to use it for it to get better. Just like google maps needed people to use it for it to get better.
But Google Maps was excellent when it was released. It was the only thing of it's kind.
Apple's mapping isn't half as decent as Google's, which has been around for over 7 years. There was no reason to abandon Google's.
Not on that scale. There's tech press PR nightmares, and late night TV monologue PR nightmares. The first kind are fairly easy to resolve by fixing the underlying problems, the second are nearly impossible to dislodge from people minds. People don't want to hear that it's been fixed, because the jokes are too funny.Cause they don't already?
