Why? This issue is affecting every manufacturer. If anything, this is going to make it way harder for smaller companies and startups without Apple or Google’s vast resources to release devices. If anything, this makes it more likely the Google and Apple ecosystems aren’t disrupted.
Most apple products are discretionary. Do you NEED an AppleTV vs a lesser product? Do you NEED new iPad instead keeping the old? Does anyone NEED a homepod? Until Apple stops supporting the M1-M4 does anyone really have to upgrade who isn’t a professional who needs absolute speed?

I guess that's why the stock price is really down. I'm glad I bought my stuff early it looks like. Probably won't be updating the mac anytime soon, though I just bought an HP laptop a couple months ago and finding I use that more than the Mac these days (Bigger screen too).

I'm typing on a 2020 M1 Macbook Air with cheap 16GB RAM and a cheap 1TB SSD, and I totally approve this message !

So then what's the problem? Why would you or any theoretical person even buy one? You're acting like they're pointless and useless and you don't need one, while bemoaning that the pointless and useless thing that you don't need is more expensive now. Make it make sense!
Both can be true IMO. You can like a product and at the same time disagree with 4 year old tech getting more expensive at that level...

Yikes! I hope this is just a temporary thing until the memory shortage crisis is solved.
It’ll be a long wait. I think the next 2 to 3 generations of Apple devices will stay at these higher prices, if not get higher.

When new RAM/SSD manufacturing processes are online and up to capacity, there may be some relief, though consumer electronics will still have to fight with greedy AI overlords until that market finally matures and the unnecessary hype has finally moved on.

Once that’s in place it’s likely prices will come down again, though they probably won’t fall to what they were prior to today.

Apple know that people have short memories. In a few years time when the latest Apple TV (for example) is released, with a drop in price from £249 to £199, they’ll advertise it as an amazing new price point hoping we’ve forgotten that it used to be £169 (just like how some forgot the Apple TV was once £99…)

My "problem" is that they've dumped support for my ATV 4K 1st gen models for tvOS 27

It's not an issue yet, but it will be (in terms of app support).

How about being a little more polite in your tone by the way?

Some retailers will hold steady on existing stock, others will jack-up now.

It's a stressful time for buyers, but if you pull the trigger ' like now', it will seem like a coup, which is a perhaps silly, but wtf.

Hey Tim Apple and The Ternusator - why not just double the price of everything? Then you only have to sell half as many!

Guess who ordered a 64GB m5 pro yesterday ! That was fortunate as it is 800 quid more expensive today .

Really wasn’t expecting this much of a price increase
I just pulled the trigger on the below. 32gb ram, 1TB storage for £739/$979 with a discount code! 😛

I do software engineering and code using cursor and codex.

I know it’s M1 Pro. However memory bandwidth and storage speed is still super fast compare with M5.

For 3-4 times the amount with the same ram and storage. I don’t need the extra gpu power as I have a gaming pc. Will sell my m1 16GB 512gb MacBook Pro thst I bought used for 3 years ago. Will get more than half my money back. Bought it for 650 pounds and will sell to cex for £344!

My 64gb Mac mini 20 core gpu will arrive in the next two weeks. Finding used bargains is really hard. Prices have sky rocketed or people are clinging on to what they have!

Because Apple "loyal" customers have never been screwed this deep, maybe ?
You missed the RAM nonsense of the late 80s / early 90s. Same thing happened. It's been a while tho since I saw Apple (and others) jack up their prices for supply shortages. Adjusted for inflation I suppose it's not 'that bad' but it's pretty bad.

I've just placed an order for mine at a similar retailer in the UK. Just in case prices change.
Just in case you're holding your breath with John Lewis.... you get an order acknowledgement immediately and then a confirmation 30 minutes later. Mine came through fine, so they must be pulling from their own inventory.
