Apple Just Increased Prices on MacBooks, iPads, and More

For now. Likely in September. I doubt they would want to increase now and then increase with new models.

Well done. There will likely be an another price hike next year. For this year Samsung is selling storage and RAM to Apple at 200%.

The contract will be renegotiated for next year and will likely include a hike.
 
The consumer price per TB flash memory is rougly $150. For Apple the price per TB must be a lot less. I think Apple's price increases are way too aggressive in relation to the actual costs. I will not buy a new laptop until prices go down again.

Yeah it's insane! I bought my first external SSDs, 4TB Samsung T7 Shields, almost 3yrs ago for $199 each and now they're over a grand on Amazon WTF?? I upgraded those to T9s a few years ago and even those were "only" $329 each at the time now also touching a grand.

They are using this as cover to install permanent price hikes across the board, even in areas they aren't seeing cost increases.

As I said in earlier post about the Siri AI etc, I have turned 180º. Since April 1984 when I bought an original Mac which I still have stored away until this year I have been an Apple fanboy buying everything new every year (except for the Apple Vision joke). Not anymore. I have no need for nor do I believe in the hype around AI. I don’t need Siri AI to sort thru my email to find things for me. I can do that myself. In many ways I find AI as a solution looking for a problem to solve.

Luckily I recently upgraded all my gear to the latest so I will sit tight for the foreseeable future (although I may be tempted by the iPhone Ultra Fold).

I’m sure there are some practical business processes for AI to replace/make more efficient but not on a personal basis. I could be wrong, but this current super cycle led by NVIDIA and the hyperscaler buildout of massive data centers will either fizzle out over time or everyone will be working for Elon Musk.

They're likely not pricing their products according to memory costs today but for what their team of analysts are anticipating over the next few years. And since every other manufacturer is doing it, in the grand scheme of things Apple won't lose customers and will only see an expected slowdown in upgrade purchases commensurate with what other brands are seeing. And I'm sure Apple and everyone else will lower their prices once the memory crunch is over and the AI bubble bursts ;-) Anyhow, if you're eyeballing an upgrade right now, I'd highly suggest checking out Amazon's Prime Day deals (Or Walmart, BestBuy, Costco etc. who are roughly matching prices) before they all follow suit and bump everything up to "Apple levels". Crazy stuff. Glad I pulled the trigger on the discounted MacBook Air and iPad Pro in the past month. Each of those increased $200ish a piece!

Minimum. Anthropic, openai, nvidia, Microsoft etc all have multi year contracts to buy as much ram and ssd from micron, Samsung and sk hynix as possible

None of those suppliers are build new factories. They don't want to risk over supply. Even if they wanted to build nre factories it would take 5 year including 1-2 years of bad yields.

You are 100% wrong, and you are not alone. Unfortunately there are a lot of people like you that just don’t understand the capabilities and are going to be left behind.

They are building some new lines and factories, but it will take 2-3 years to come online and like you said, it will only be a 20-30% increase in supply from where we are now while demand is expected to double by late 2027.
