I’m gonna go out on a limb and guess that when memory prices come back down…Apple’s prices won’t.
Given CEO’s and execs were caught on leaked quarterly calls in 2021 admitting to raising prices and increasing profits and that “consumers will balk but eventually accept the new prices” while using Covid as an excuse for “inflation” and we’ve seen EXACTLY that, the recent hit from AI techbros will do the same with consumer electronics.

Prices won’t be going back down.

You are 100% wrong, and you are not alone. Unfortunately there are a lot of people like you that just don’t understand the capabilities and are going to be left behind.

Left behind?
Where are you going to "be" that the rest won't be?

If AI is so magical, there will be no advantage at being "skilled at prompting".
Any disparity there will be short lived.

I get that people are mad at TC, but Macrumors buyer's guide has been screaming "don't buy" on the Mac Studio for a long time; this is a product whose price just suddenly went up about 40%. I'm not really sure what a Macrumors site is for, if not to post rumors that a price hike of this magnitude is just around the corner.

Anyone about to release an Nvidia Spark laptop is probably getting their calculators out right now and rapidly rethinking the RRP.

Apple just went from being the clear best option for those looking to run local AI, to competing with Nvidia based alternatives that massively outperform Mac on token generation. Even with the problems associated with Windows on ARM as a developer platform, these price increases are a massive boost for Nvidia.

Thankfully I had my big upgrade last autumn. IP 17 Pro and iPad Pro M5 13".

I wonder whether the prices will go down, once the memory-situation eases.

They will go down with the market. Competition ensures this. It will probably be quick also.

It's a scarcity thing. It just looks bad, and like inflation, which is present elsewhere.

But this isn't inflation in that sense.

If you didn't already you should stop what you are doing and get your computer from BestBuy before the prices go up and they sell out. Don't even wait for the end of the day.
This.

Amazon, B&H, etc. already raised their prices this morning. I ordered M5 Air 16/512 via Best Buy, but realized that Microcenter had it for $935 with same-day pickup, so I ordered that instead. Which is only $135 more than the new price of the 512GB Neo.. wild!

So glad I snatched my 15' MBA M5 on swappa last month BNIB for $999. The same machine from apple today is $1499. A 50% increase. Keeping this for a while.
I upgrade my pro max every year, but unless trade in values are up too, I might be holding onto my 17 ProMax another year. UGH

I'm in the "I don't NEED upgrades right now but would WANT some" and was strongly considering a few purchases. I think out of principle alone...that is no longer the case. Price increases like this on a NEWLY released device is one thing. Price increases like this on devices that are coming up on a year (or more) old...is quite another.

errdayhere yestThis.

Yes, I bought at MC this morning also, had to. Was there yesterday to buy, but was still undecided.

No longer... LOL

Crazy times.

Guess I'm keeping my M1 Max MBP - glad I shelled out the $ I did for it in 2022 for the 64GB ram config. I really hope Apple supports this till OS 28 at least. Give me a few years to work side jobs to pay for the replacement if I can afford it.

My wife bought an M5 MBP with 24GB ram a few months ago, but her work paid for it (very fortunate for this).

I was thinking about possibly trading in my M1 Max but they kept dropping the trade in value $1290 to $1170 and I really didn't want to have another payment when my M1 Max is doing everything I need/want it to do and more.

I'm not made of gold, I'm going to be holding onto my stuff for years longer now.

I understand pricing going up though when a company is making crazy profits as a result it’s a harder pill to swallow. A year from now they’ll act like they don’t know why sales have declined.

Dammit, I was planning on picking up a M5 finally to upgrade from my M1 literally tomorrow. Best Buy and other sites still has the Mac on sale, do yall think they’ll update the price increases right now?
Unless you have paperwork from yesterday, it's already done.
Me too.Yesterday at the Apple Store to set up trading in 2 old MBA for M5 MBA 15". Going in this aft. So... Bought it this am from 'Zon for $1150 vs $1500. I somehow (??) believe I'll be able to sell one of the trade-ins (M4 MBA 15" 512Gb) easily enough.
p.s. The trade in values have NOT gone up !!
