actually, touchbar version went from 49.3 to 58wh

might not be terrace battery. people were complaining how there's a bunch of open space, maybe apple just filled those empty spaces. Weird though how the weight seems to remain unchanged.
You’re right, for 2017 the 13” TB had 49.2Wh, it’s the non-TB models that had 54.5 Wh. (Original post edited to correct.)

Interesting about the weight not changing.

Actually no, its only about 500 dollars, as I was specing out the Dell, Razer and MBP and a dell with 4k/512GB/16GB of ram was coming in at 2,100 and a similarly configured MBP was 2,600. This is for the 15" model

A more adequate comparison with Apple's screen would be a Dell with a 1440 screen resolution, and that still provides more screen real estate than Apple's screen.

Would you care to elaborate on that?

Those are Chinese companies. Many don't trust anything designed and built in China.

Indeed. I have been thinking that so long as I stay away from 4K HDR content, I am good to go with this laptop. Works beautifully and reliably until the keyboard starts to throw errors.
Shortly after release a couple of my keys would stick somewhat but register correctly even after popping the keys off and cleaning them. Somehow they fixed themselves at some point and now press correctly lol.

Let's not lie to ourselves, the Touch Bar adds at least $300 to the cost that could be better spent on performance.
There is no SD card slot.
And the 13" model has a sh***y, sh***y, non-pro, graphics card.

And the reason Apple kept this reveal behind closed doors is so they could control the message by schmoozing the journalists.

I think I'll end up going for the 13" with 16GB ram and 512GB SDD. :(

There isn't much to justify having an Apple Event just for these refreshes. If they were ready at WWDC, they would have probably done it then.

Looks like a great upgrade to an already solid platform. True tone is a great addition, now that my iOS products all have it (I've calibrated the Ultrafine 5k to be more neutral in my work setting) it's jarring to not have it on such a large bright screen.

The T2 processor and Hey Siri are noteworthy improvements... maybe not totally needed, but with the Homepods I've become accustomed to asking my devices things more often, glad to know my Mac can respond now too. T2 also has the encryption benefits from the iMac Pro, which should improve boot time.

Processors, RAM, storage options... and yet everyone is complaining. I have a strong feeling that those complaining don't use their computers to earn money, or if they do aren't quite as successful as they'd like to be.

Graphics probably took a back seat because of power demands (6 core i9, 32 GB, and a 4TB SDD will have quite a power capacity). I have a feeling the eGPU support has pushed off serious users (non gamers especially) from needing stronger integrated graphics.

No progress with the size of the bezels continues to be a disappointment.
Please, no feedback about where to put the camera. They can keep it on top and still reduce the bezel size.

dell-xps-13-vs-macbook-pro.jpg

Razer has a thin bezel and the camera on the top, I agree that there isn't a reason to have a "nose cam" I will say the MBP looks better then the Dell. I just like the clean lines of the MBP, and the 15" Razer has similar lines and design. I really like both computers, though macOS wins out on many aspects of usability

I fail to understand why Dell doesn't just balance the chin under the screen with the bezel above it and add a camera at the top.

You would have thought by 2018 (for the coffee lake version) they would have fixed the camera. It baffling in all honesty.

Good point on the wifi. That's a reason to wait right there.

802.11ax would be nice, but I don't think it's a huge deal. Routers are just now getting the draft standard, and from what I understand most of 802.11ax advantages are about better QoS among clients, not overall speed. My guess is 802.11ax will be a lot more useful in 5 years when the majority of people around you are using it.

Still, would be nice.

Where is the evidence the butterfly design was the cause of the issue?

Seriously?

I have posted several links in previous posts including this article. Another tech site took one apart, MR reported Apple's own findings that Geniuses were to use canned air for problematic keyboards but that this would not resolve the keyboard issue. Other MR members have also explained aspects of the design flaw. Google and YouTube are your friends.

The minute the first 32Gb refurbs hit the store I am all over this. They’ll trade my 2015 15” 16Gb/256Gb for a hair under $800 at the moment.

So gutted the non-Touchbar models didn't get an update. But then, I guess Apple will want to slowly phase those. Probably by not updating them for, say 5 years?

They added true tone but wouldn't that be awful for photographers? Always changing white balance?
It will surely be an option.

It will surely be an option.

Non-touchbar will likely get a silent update if and when Intel get around to releasing the 15w part. No guarantees of course, but seems likely.

Are they using server grade SSDs? Quality SSDs do cost a lot more...

They are normally Samsung parts with a modified form factor for Apple.

Well, wasn’t this was a disappointment...

The i9 is the good news.

Even having two more cores for no extra cost is great news.

Blame AMD for the graphics being **** and blame Nvidia for being a pain in the ass.

But still no 4K screen. C'mon.

The interesting thing about this update is that the MBP is now truly for professionals.

This is a machine for those who truly can justify paying the price for the performance - and the sales tax refunds they can get regarding these machines against their businesses!

Apple obviously believe in the keyboard. Well, let’s see.

And they believe in the the TB too. I guess it’s useful to those with Logic and FCP so again, it places the MBP absolutely in the realm of those who are creative pros.

It makes this fall’s rumoured 13 inch MB update all the interesting.

Presumably it’s going to replace the 7 gen function key MBP soon enough too.

And I’d expect it to leave quite a wide price gulf between Apple’s consumer and pro laptops - which is a good thing IMHO.

Scratching my head at where the 12 MB is going to fit in here if the 12 MB is going to be the modern replacement for the MBA.

Who will buy the 12 MB when the 13 MB is going to (presumably) hit a good balance between size, weight, ports, performance, screen and price?

And I wonder if this new rumoured 13 MB is going to be the machine that many non creative ‘pro’ customers really want. Let’s see.
