Will keep my 2014 2.8 i5 with 16GB and 1TB refurb that cost me £1,600 4 years ago, a little longer.

happy for the next gen keyboard, hope it’s truly better.

Touch Bar on the 2016 MBP I use at work is useless. I miss the dedicated Fn keys. If Apple updates the non-Touch Bar MPB or the MB with the new keyboard and spec bump, I’m ready to replace the older MBP I have at home. Otherwise, I’ll be waiting until next year.

I think the keyboard might just have to be a wait and see. It’s not like they are going come out and say that this keyboard is more reliable than the old one, as that would be admitting that the old one sucks. No matter how true, it’s not good advertising. Based on the fact that they now have a repair plan, they may have finally tracked down the problem and have a tested solution?

I guess Apple did this quiet rollout because they plan to announce more significant things later this year and didn’t want to have too much at once? One can hope.

I guess the 12" macbook and 13" nTB model will both go away and will be replaced by a single macbook 13" later this year.
I agree that both will be replaced later this year by something more than mere processor updates. But whether that will be one or two models, I'm not sure about.

Looking forward to finding out whether the keyboard finally solves the issues many user had with 2016 and 2017 models.
And I wonder if the new quiet keyboard is compatible with such models and can be installed when you send them for repair, I really hope so!

I literally bought a new MacBook Pro last week - I couldn't wait any longer but I am glad this happened within the 14 day grace period!

Sneaky Apple. Looks like a really decent bump if the keyboard issue was addressed!

EDIT: Wait, looks like 32GB DDR4 is only available on the 15-inch, and not the new quad core 13-inch... That's going to make some people angry :/

Anything can make someone angry. Blue sky? I'm angry, I wanted rain. Free food? I'm angry, it's not tasty enough. New MacBook Pro? I'm angry, it doesn't have a full size mechanical keyboard with RGB backlighting.

Anger over something usually tells a lot more about the person than the issue.

AAAARGH!! New Macs that are the same thing yet again!

In this day and age they shouldn't be selling a computer aimed at professionals and power-users with 256GB of memory. 256GB!

£600 to upgrade it to 1TB. That should be the standard! You can buy a 1TB external drive for less than £50.

Expected. There are some who will never be happy, and need to be perpetually angry in order to feel good inside.

Checking the specs against the 2017 model, I think you'll see a benchmark improvement but NVME drive stays the same

I dont think 2017 MBP users need to upgrade, maybe 2016?
I'm on a 2016 (nearly maxed) and it's an absolute unit. maybe if I did video production or something, I'd have a need to upgrade, but this thing has been running great except for the keyboard failure I had about a year in (which was replaced under AppleCare with the '2017 keyboard' rev).

My current Macbook Pro is about to hit 5 years old. The problem is that it works too well. Having a SSD and great battery life really doesn't give you much reason to buy a new one.

Maybe I will consider the Mid 2018 once it's available as a refurbished model next year. I am glad that Intel is now offering mobile quad cores in the Core i5 lineup.
